The SPIRA™ Open Matrix ALIF device is a unique, interbody fusion implant consisting of spiral support arches and Surface by Design™ technology.
SPIRA™ was designed specifically to increase fusion rates and stabilization. The spiral support arches decrease subsidence by load sharing over the entire endplate, while also maximizing bone graft capacity. The Surface by Design™ technology is a deliberately designed roughened surface that facilitates bone growth through an optimized pore diameter, strut thickness and trabecular pattern.

Is there a device that offers normal flex ? I had alway assumed a metal/polyurethane/metal sandwich type of device with the metal bonding with bone growth over time, and internally bonded to the poly to allow stability and a level normal flex. Much like the construction of suspension joints on a car but adapted to this application obviously. Relatively if the patient is in pain, fusing joints is a fix, but at risk of wearing out joints either side and loosing mobility, although of course, , no?

I think that this device would, after a couple of years of bone growth would impede the forward flexation of the spine to allow for bending or twisting for everyday functions. If there was a way to reduce the rigidity of the bone growth stiffness then this would be a great way to help to help thousands of people with My condition.

Why are these artificial Disc has to be thicker than the normal size???

I'm not a doctor but was told they are trying to ad space from collapsed discs and also to give the nerves more room to alleviate pinching and pressure on the nerves.
