Wow! thanks for sharing Swami ji 🙏 I just had something like that happen to me a few weeks ago. I was just pumping my gas around 4 am. A homeless man with tattered clothes came up to me and was trying to get my attention, but I was ignoring him and saying "no thank you." Then I noticed he had a japa mala wrapped around his hand. He said he found it on the ground and he asked me what it was for, since he noticed I was wearing one too. In that moment I felt really tense and nervous, and kinda just blurted out that "it's for meditation" and then he left. It felt really jarring, because it could have been a moment to connect, or share dharma in some way, to share mantra, but the ego totally took control and I went straight into judgement and defensiveness. I definitely think it was sign from the Divine, asking me to be more in a space of openness...hopefully there is a "next time!" haha. 💞

YES YES YES. I thought I was the only one with this observation. I like to refer to these people as “spiritual junkies”. Spiritual junkies are essentially doing it for the high. They are motivated to the experiential aspect of it all, not too unlike a drug. Rather than a higher purpose. The spiritual junkies have an ego about themselves. It’s part of their identity. Regardless if you believe in religion, the teachings of Jesus have some wisdom. Remember when Jesus said not to pray in public, but to do it in private. Glad someone pointed out the spiritual ego / junkies.
