This is by far the greatest movie based on a TV show ever. The timeless story, iconic characters, and banger songs, are all just amazing. And I love the message that it's okay to let your inner kid out sometimes. If the series had ended here, as planned, I'd have no complaints.

I played Rehydrated! I beat the game in like 6 days 😅 I couldn't put it down basically! That's so rare for me but it was such a fun and engaging platformer. I didn't want to stop playing so, I actually beat it. 🤷🏻

I thought it was understood that Spongebob was a classic stoner show. It carried on the Ren & Stimpy vibe of a gross/wacky kid cartoon that adults enjoy too. Half of Cartoon Network is those shows now.

Interestingly: •This was Intended to be the series finale of SpongeBob SquarePants, but the show was renewed for a fourth season due to the film's success and the show's popularity. Further episodes were told to take place before the events of this movie. • This is the first time Karen is seen as a computer monitor on wheels. She was later shown like that in the television series after the film's release. • An 11-foot long David Hasselhoff figure was built so cameramen could film without straining the real Hasselhoff. • This was the last traditionally animated film from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies until its successor, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015), which was released approximately 11 years later. • King Neptune's design is changed from that in Fools in April/Neptune's Spatula (2000). Instead of a more muscular body, Neptune is designed to look more like a king rather than a god. • Alec Baldwin took on the role of Dennis because his children are fans of the show. • When SpongeBob and Patrick are in the Nut Bar, there is a picture of Popeye, along with some panels from his comic, and what appears to be a panel from Muttz. • The bag of winds that Mindy gives to SpongeBob and Patrick (which they use later in the film) is a reference to the stories of Odysseus, from The Odyssey by Homer. In the story, Aeolus gives Odysseus a bag of winds to guide him and his crew home. • Scarlett Johansson accepted a role in the film as she's a big fan of cartoons, especially The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991). • The first time in the franchise where various characters use weapons to kill someone. • This is the Final Nickelodeon animated movie to be released on VHS.

24:06 SpongeBob was greatly inspired by an album by Ween called “The Mollusk,” which is very psychedelic. You can actually hear one of the songs off of that album (“Ocean Man”) at the end of the movie. So you weren’t too far off in your assessment.

As someone who’s seen this movie literally over a hundred times and constantly watching it growing up as a kid, I kinda forget how absolutely random and wild and insane the story and comedy is in this movie 🤣 I’d definitely recommend checking out the first 3 seasons of the show (the fourth season has some really good ones too)

Fun fact, this movie was supposed to be the series finale of SpongeBob even the creator still thought of it (before he passed away) as the finale, even if it wasn’t the last thing SpongeBob made. Which is why SpongeBob in the show isn’t manager of the Krusty Krab two because this is the end. Yes the show is a trip like this movie.

To me, the craziest thing about this movie is that Mötorhead, The Flaming Lips, The Shins, and Wilco all wrote original songs for this movie (they largely play during the credits) and Ween (a band so weird they actually inspired the creation of the show in the first place) has a song called “Ocean Man” that really skyrocketed into fame after this movie. The soundtrack is surprisingly fantastic! Greg will have heard Ween through the “Bizarro World” episodes of Superman & Lois, which is so fitting that a band as weird as them would be popular on a Bizarro Earth 😂

The show is ***24*** years old. It's the longest running cartoon ever, and it DESERVES that place. The First 4 Seasons were PERFECTION, then this Movie came out and it was supposed to be the end of the show, but it was a total blockbuster it led to Season 5 and now we are on Season 14 or so, with 2 more movies (not as good) and SpongeBob is still one of the biggest characters ever of TV.

Fun Fact: To shoot the live-action scene of SpongeBob and Patrick fighting Dennis on top of Hasselhoff's body, a 12-foot replica of his body was built. At the end of production, Hasselhoff took his model and took it home. He nearly auctioned some years ago, but he declined in the end.

Unironically one of the best movies ever made. Movies based on TV shows often have the problem that they either feel like a 2 hours long episode or that they have an unnecessary big story that doesn't fit the show. This movie accomplishes to capture the show's essence while also being worthy to the big screen with its wild energy and stakes that are dramatic in their own way and that fit the show (instead of being about the world's end or something like that). This movie is so hilarious, lighthearted, uplifting and emotionally sweet and it truly has a unique energy that I haven't been able to find again since, but the closest that got to it was actually the Barbie movie this year. So if you have a movie that is similar to the Spongebob Squarepants Movie or Barbie, please tell me 🙏

I absolutely love this movie since I was a kid and admittedly I was a bit surprised you didn't love it but it definitely has to do with this being your introduction to SpongeBob. I don't think I would recommend people start with this movie if they have no prior knowledge of SpongeBob but then again I've never really had to because I don't think I've ever met anyone who hasn't any SpongeBob in their lives.

Its fun watching people react who dont have the emotional attachment formed from watching the show as a child. Whenever I rewatch this movie, a warm, loving feeling of nostalgia of a simpler time hits me without fail. There's a mandela effect for this one. For the peanut guitar that you have in the thumbnail - many remember that being a white and purple V shaped guitar including me

SpongeBob definitely was more digestible in small bites as episodes 😂 But this movie also did come out when the show had reached a hyper comedic version of itself. It would’ve served greatly as the end to the series. But it got even goofier from there

From 2004 till now I still hear references and make references from SpongeBob and specifically this movie a lot. Also the movie follows parts of The Odyssey from Greek Mythology from the bag of winds to the cyclops, but told in a different way lmao

Loved your guys’ reaction to this. This movie is awesome and it’s one of my favorite childhood movies to this day. Never gets old and the guitar scene was straight up epic. Stephen Hillenburg definitely nailed directing this movie.

Interesting to see y'alls reaction to a movie where you had no reference to the characters. SpongeBob was so popular shortly after it came out that my brother and all of his fraternity brothers were watching it in 2002 when I visited them for Dad's Day. The early seasons are really enjoyable.

this really is the only good movie adaptation of a tv show. its exactly like an episode of the show but the stakes are risen way higher. truly a masterpiece in my opinion
