It's important to reframe the whole premise here: Spurs didn't trade Rod Dillingham for future picks. The Spurs traded the Toronto 2024 8th pick to Minnesota for their future picks, and the Timberwolves chose Dillingham. This changes the narrative and where most of the misunderstanding around this situation lies.
CP3 will start and is the player-coach that Pop needs for this young team. And just b/c CP3 starts this year doesn't mean he'll be playing 30-35min/game at 39yo. He'll avg around 20-25m/gm but will be around in the 4Q to help secure games. The crunch-time lineup of VW-Sochan-Castle-Vassel-CP3 will be something to behold. It will also be a "D" juggernaut b/c CP3 is a better defender at 39yo than the Spurs current PG tandem of Jones and Wesley. (I am high on Wesley, though, who will benefit immensely from CP3's experience as will all the young Spurs.) Besides his on-court coaching, the PNR he will have with VW is the best thing about CP3 (if he's not hurt, smh). It will be deadly and fun to watch. Who knows, if it works out CP3 could eventually be a bench coach for the Spurs when he retires, and Pop's replacement when that time comes.
I think they should trade Keldon Johnson, in order to keep Vassel because his overall play style might not fit the Spurs play style in the future and I genuinely got the feeling that trade would be a win win on both parties
Spurs have potential and could definitely see them making the right moves to compete. It would be disappointing to see a talent like wemby get wasted for the first part of his career
think hes saying Vic COULD develop injury problems like kp, due to their similar build. their bodies just arnt meant to move the way they do, at their size. however victor's flexibility, and the stretching he does to maintain it should help alot, The risks are there but it seems he's doing everything possible to mitigate that potentially happening. Its always gunna be a worry tho for guys like wemby, Chet, Porzingus etc.

I love the spurs and I think their were very lucky to launch Victor , however I think they should do a trade to bring Deni Avdija to the team , it was stole by the portland for 2 first pick and a good Vet , Im sure that the stupid Wizard front office that let their best prospect for a rebuilding process when this player is only 23 years old with already 4 years NBA improvement each year with a breakthrough season , is a unselfish player whom love to pass rather than score and is anger to win , handler ball player small forward with a defensive mind it is the perfect fit for the spurs, that could rebuild a dynasty with this kind of collective player all-around player 6’9 , Im sure that the spurs had some talks with the wizards but this is not happened !!! I know that Mr popovitch that know the guy since it was the youngest EU MVP at -17 , target him draft 2020 however he slip from top 5 to the 9 pick before the spurs with the 11 pick took Vassel when Halliburton still was on the board !!!! I think Keldon fits off the bench. I think people forgetting that Keldon’s role had been changing. He’s also playmaking a little bit now rather than just scoring.
Keldon just doesn't fit with VW. He is trade bait, which is why they drafted Ingram (he's a poor man's Keldon.) But we appreciate KJ's contribution to the Spurs history.
Vassell is play finisher. His role is to score and not to initiate plays, that’s why the CP move makes sense to hopefully mentor Castle to be future PG. TP was closely drafted after Timmy. I believe that’s why this move was done by PATFO.
Indeed,@@IrishIcarus13. Vassell is a better fit. Keldon will be trade bait for the future all-star PG. If Castle works out. Then he and the all-star PG will facilitate the offense around VW, who can also be PC (Point Center). I will add that if Vassell has to go to Utah for Lauri M, then I would be okay with that IF it does not include the VERY VALUABLE picks from the Hawks that will bring us Cooper Flagg in the 2025 draft.
@@TheMilitiaGuy I think vassell is the second most untouchable guy beyond wemby. Lauri would be sick, but I don't think the spurs are going to rush the rebuild, their eying next years draft and probably looking to truly compete 2026. Their big free agency moves will be next year imo, not this year. Chris was brought in for mentorship and vet presence, I don't think that signing is the signal their trying to win now some think it is. Trading the 8th pick and acquiring a vet to allow castle to ease into the PG position seems right in line w a team still rebuilding for another year, investing in bettering what they have and acquiring assets for the warchest.
