i have legitimately gone through my whole 2-year ss13 experience thinking that actual ERP servers were fake. literally thought they were a meme. i'm very disappointed in myself for not taking that warning seriously.
I've been playing this game since 2009, it's always been a thing. Hell, most servers didn't even care so-long as you did your shit in private with whomever else. But now most of them have banned it as a general activity..
Just to indicate the level of degeneracy among SS13 devs, here's a little story. There was once a fallout server. It had a bit of everything. IF you wanna be a villain? You can just check in for Enclave and make most horrendous disasters upon humankind, just dont piss off the Brotherhood unless you know what are you doing. If you ERP degen... you can just pop into about a dozen of hidden shacks and mind your own business. Unless threre is a hunting party, specializing in finding them. And then there are the rest of folks - Oasis, ghouls that turn super syan unltil entire server comes together to break their bones, Brotherhood of steel, which enforces "no fun" law for scavengers with mixed results, NCR and Legion taking turns in becoming an absolute dictatorship and occasionaly occupying/purging Oasis. And for a time it was good. But after a took a month break and tried to get back, there were only HRP and ERP servers left. Server have died and there is little information about it now. Its as if the very existance of decent Fallout server upset the universe itself.
I've been following a fallout13 server discord and it seems like it was because of the dwindling playerbase as well as the dev pursuing other goals that the server shut down. Before that though, they posted a poll on what people wanted the server to become-skyrim,normal ss13,etc...-but I never heard from it ever again Ironically, the dev switched hosting to another guy which made the fallout13 server popular again, I assume its cause it became lrp. though it quickly became lowpop in just a few months. This is what I assume happened, its hard to actually tell when I dont know what the devs are thinking
i thought at first roleplaying at Skyrat was going to be an experience of a lifetime but it ended up with me arguing with two people about box placement. that was the most interesting part of the session. just me and two people arguing where to place a box at. it ended with us crying at each other or flipping out. that's it. the most interesting part was just us arguing where to put a box at. that's all.
First of all. Hi Clint. Second of all, Skyrat is definitely more talky talky than anything else. Beware the rules, it's like the ss13 equivalent of the US legal system.
As a frequent Skyrat player, it’s a lot more ‘roleplay oriented’ as opposed to most other casual servers more ‘gamey’ format. I love both, it just depends whether you wanna have a story or cause chaos.
yeah so true lmao, fallout servers have like 20% tdm players, 20% HRP players and 60% ERPrs lmao. They never last because the admins always get into some drama.
When nuclear war is the gamemode, you can infinite spawn as runner. My two favorite castes are runner and shrike. With runner, you can dish out damage for being a T1, and I can't be bother to wait for a T2 or T3 slot to open.
On HaloStation (because it runs old baycode) if you point blank a guy's head with a shotgun the head just becomes gibs. Though its always funny ODing on like 25u of biofoam and becoming essentially god for like 5 minutes before your organs basically liquidfy.
I've been playing SS13 for almost 8 years and the amount of degeneracy posted in this video isn't even the final form. Only two days ago Dravis streamed cheese pizza and got banned on 80% of severs for it.
The huge flaw with HRP servers is that generally their admins do absolutely nothing to stop what we in the GoonRP community call “Meta-Cliquing”. It’s the idea that people will push others away to be with friends who generally have out of game connections to other players and genuinely just make the server hell for new players. It’s the same issue I saw you cover on Skyrat, 100+ people but nobody is around, and you can’t even get into most departments. It’s a big issue on GoonRP(which is medium to low RP), so I can’t even imagine how bad it is on HRP servers where the barrier to entry is already high for new players.
What's the point of playing with several of your friends alone in SS13? Wouldn't it be way more fun to play play DnD or Overwatch or literally any other co op game. All the fun of this game is trying to cope due to all the whacky characters random internet strangers think up.
@@NicholasW943 Because HRP players are legitimately the biggest babies you will ever meet and will literally have a shtifit OOC because something happened to their character because they are unable to dissasociate IC from OOC. Source: I play on HRP servers
@@NicholasW943 Because for them, it’s a way to do sorta… controlled improv. A performance of sorts. The problem is that it’s a video game, not an improv-fest. People want to play AND roleplay, but these folks do not. They just want X and Y to happen, with stuff in between. If a staff assistant walks up and throws a glass at their friend during a conversation? Murder. Monkey knocks over a vending machine? Pretend it isn’t there, it’d “ruin RP”. Person literally dying in front of medbay while doctor and meta friend talk? Maybe they should’ve been better friends with the doctor. It’s the idea that people want a controlled amount of chaos. They want to be with their fiends and live essentially in a bubble. No clown antics, no monkey chaos, no antagonists, just being squirreled away in some closet or hidden room to be the same characters and talk with the same people. Any attempt to enter that bubble is considered a violation of their so to speak “RP zone”, and therefore a personal attack on them, because god forbid you want people who signed up for jobs to yknow, do their jobs.
I do love a SEC that only sits in their office and basically talks for 90 minutes while we have 3 unsolved murders and a clown with the Caps Antique. To be fair i love goon, i met some of the most amazin', chill and helpful people there, learned how deep this game goes, made sushi in the workshop back when Sylvester was still populated but it lately starts to feel like all the departments are also bubbles, all that cool interaction when someone drops by for some hyper specific item only you have happen rarely now, everyone is preoccupied with themselves and that hurts roleplay interaction and inclusivity.
@@durandmefew I still play goon occasionally, and I can relate a lot to this. Feels a lot like departments are made up of the same people every shift. Great if you’re in on it, but hard to get into. I miss the interaction that used to happen and have to generally force myself to make it happen again.
As gooner who barely play other servers, when you get your hand into the mechanics it's honestly one of best ss13 experiences out there, most player don't mind helping if you don't get some mechanics, rounds are chaotic and theres always something to do and rules aren't too limiting and pretty standart (most people won't call you out as long as you don't bother them really)
I was a gooner till I got a year ban for saying "Stop being a p**sy and aim for the head". Admitedly its been my I think 6th time accidentaly saing something bigotted but as of yet im waiting.
lmao low rp goon is legit high rp goon is gay. ive done very unreasable things in low rp goon like hiding srarin bombs in tool boxes hiding them in every room in the station and sarin gassing the entire station as a non traitor, or simply playing the ai get overrided and destroy all lights and power, or wizard shenangans, or floorpills, or making a hell burn then hot wiring the station sill my max ban ever was 24 hours for the hotwire lmao. fun times .... fun times: PSA, as a clown you can explain yourself out of almost any bannable defence with it was just some cheeky clown shennagins mate
Yes daddy, guide me thru SS13. You pretty much had the same exprience with Skyrat as me :( Also I love picking up security on friggin' SPLURT because they're stupid as hell and unrobust. I love to make ERP more painfull.
I would love to see experienced coders who never have seen ss13 code before, try and untangle the eldritch mess that it is, without crying in their sleep.
@@csmrookie9600 DM isn't as "complicated" as much as it is convoluted. The '04 and '94 split between C# and a dozen other founding-languages are equally as confusing.
Played the game a bit on goonstation, figured out the controls well enough to go around the station removing lights, smashing them against walls and tossing them away to repeat the process. I single-handedly plunged about a fifth of the station into darkness before some technicians came with replacement bulbs

I have played ss13 for a long ass time. I always had a hard time coming to terms with how i would describe goon. Played it quite a lot and i feel you did a great job. To me, its a noob trap server. It makes it hard to try 90% of ss13 as a whole, and how they lock most of there content in the "secrets" folder has made me baffled its as alive as it is. Like, to even have something similar to goon, you have to recode it from scratch. Like, were trying to get goonstyle ranching on monkestation and boy is it weird to not be able to use framework from there code. For a project thats supposedly "opensource" such as ss13, its insane how locked up there stuff is.
Goon has been masquerading as an "open source" project for a very long time now. It has more to do with their code being leaked time after time than anything else. Probably one of the worst servers for a new player to experience, though.
I completely agree with Ook. Ss13 has such diverse servers but each one has one thing in common, that they use a similar-or same-control mechanics as well as the coding is similar. For example, if I for some reason switched from yogstation to monkestation, it will be a smooth transition as the mechanics are almost the same, cooking in both of them is similar with few variations. Now Goon on the other hand, transitioning from Goon to any other server is frustrating and confusing. I tried to play Goon and the absolute difference in control mechanics as well as the difference in code made my brain hurt. Even the graphics made my head spin. Goon is fine but it traps new players into goonstation. Newbies that play Goon gets used to goon code and so once they become experience, it becomes difficult to transition from goon to any other server. They're unable to experience the entirety of ss13 in that way
After having 4000 hours on goon and only recently being free'd (I got banned yikers) I can 100% confirm, Goon is a noob trap and locks you there. It very much locks you out of playing other servers due to its vastly different controls and way of being. Hell, even when moving to TG based codebases and TG itself I literally change the controls to what would be a Goon equivalent. By no means is Goon a bad server or not fun, its just that I dont like how it was managed.
Clicked for the thumbnail (Zackary my beloved), stayed for the genuinely entertaining (and judging by the TGMC one, incredibly accurate) descriptions of other servers.
About time more people realized TGMC is just better cm13 lol, good point about goon, started with it before going to TG and yeah its fancy, but just its own thing at this point Goodluck with documenting the rabbit hole
I hope TGMC gets more love recently. I’m not a huuuge fan of TG but the gameplay is a lot more fun and fast paced. CM feels good when it comes to realism but very time wasting. Corporate Mercenary is where it’s at tho
@@panickew fr fr, that and this strict adherence to "high rp" whenever it suits admins. Its a server where the admins are blind to the fact that half the playerbase is there for gameplay, (groundside), and the other for RP, (shipside). Both don't get along at all, I mean look at MP's lol. Outa curiosity, what's your problems with TG?
@@Pocketninja_ What is even funnier about CM roleplay divide between shipside and the common marine is that whenever a shipside player in a leading role starts to actually lead marines and through getting involved directly planetside he engages them to roleplay a bit, sooner or later he gets banned / taken of the whitelist because the staff hates his gimmick or marines get TOO cordinated and xenomains cry to staffers. There is also irony to be found in that you can no longer say rtrad on the server ( remember you are supposed to roleplay as a space MARINE) despite the fact that outside of the staffer circlejerk majority of the playerbase just doesn't care about most of bad words. And there is the thing about xeno playerbase holding staffers that want to add things for the marines hostage, implying that if one side is getting stuff, the other needs new things too.
Quality video. Questionable topic. Nice covering of all aspects of the spaceman game. (Gonna assume part two will fill the gaps I'm seeing here, like Eris, IS12, *The unspeakable one* and others) Overall: 10 outta good.
My experience with SS13 boils down to not even being robust but breaking the game so bad that it fucks with the server or admins (or both) and I get then banned for saying mean words to the friends of admins or "rdming people who are AFK". My one time of glory was when I printed many (like, literal thousands) steel buckets out of an autolathe, placed them on every single tile in a kilometer radius and using the pressure outside the station, moved every object at once. The sheer weight of having to simulate so many moving objects broke and crashed the server of Beestation and I was subsequently zanned by badmins. They changed the server code later to disallow continuous printing lol! Remember me, the Bucket King!!
Fulpstation, lax roleplay, ahaha My last few interactions with Fulpstation ages ago were the complete opposite. If the admins didn't like you they'd try to enforce HRP when they could on you. One time I was clown and nobody picked engi, so the supermatter was just not set up, nor solars, or any power. Rather than have the round end prematurely I went to the HoP to get engi access to set it up. As I was finished, I got bwoinked saying it's not my job, and when I told them it literally was now because of HoP, they still claimed "a clown shouldn't know how to set up the SM". I got merced by a traitor withot even being their objective mid-bwoink and didn't even get a revive for it despite being help up by a bwoink during that. Same admin few rounds later decides to stunlock me and try steal my stuff despite not being traitor. If they really didn't like you, they could effectively imprison you to your own job and bwoink you if you did anything that'd have the slightest relevancy to other jobs. I got bwoinked for going to engineering as CMO to get tools and upgrades, something everyone can do given you already have access from the start of the round to said area. They'd claim that you're doing another player's job and not letting them learn, even if there's no actual players in that job that you're having to do yourself in the first place. Another round I was CMO with a pretty robust medical team. We were doing so well that we actually ran ourselves out of a job due to everyone being healthy. This was a little while after cloners were removed so I decided to get a rounstart corpse, use genetics to make it identical to me, and augment it fully. After finishing like 2 hours into the round due to having to be CMO first and all that, I got one of my MDs to do a brain transplant. It worked, but a few minutes later an admin started doing electromagnetic pulses on top of me effectively killing me due to cybernetic heart and lungs, and then banned me for "powergaming" and "not doing my job the whole round". TL;DR fulpstation had no actual rules, it was just admins powertripping. Haven't played since to see how it developed if it even did.
Ive played fulp now and then for a long time and i can say its slowly but surly going down. On the other hand - regular TG have better staff and easier rules.
Okay gonna be honest, Splurt looks hilarious, I absolutely lost it at you getting wrecked by a drop pod, where a naked man emerged and proceeded to "CHECK THIS SHIT HOMIE"
This video perfectly represented my 2d spessman-going-vertical game, thank you so much brother. Edit: By the way, you can clean toothpaste stains like you would if they were on your shirt, try vinegar and water on a cloth, tapping it on the stain area, then cleaning it like you'd normally do it.
As someone who has played on several fetish servers through some private ties, I can tell you the that they're not much different from normal servers... Just creepier than average people. Like the people running Gain Station 13 but I don't kinkshame.
because. splurt luckily happens to have pretty fun, understanding players. makes for a good practice server as it’s low pressure. I learned surgery mechanics by playing on splurt (fml)
I love Playing SPLURT because I get to try to recognize my friends in these videos. The person you talked to on Splurt who wanted to kill themselves was Ike Tsumo
This is really great lol, glad to have another one of the now like 5 good SS13 content creators. As for the dichotomy of CM and TGMC, I think you really hit the nail on the head gameplay wise. I love CM but at least in terms of marine gameplay, TGMC is just flatly more interesting and more engaging. CM is where the people and the roleplay (such as it is, its there if you are willing to work for it) are at, and thats enough in my book. Gotta hang out with my fellow ungas, even if it means we are all weak as shit.
It's always the same: The XO/CO trying to prevent the inevitable deathball that gets stopped by a single boiler at a bottleneck, retreating back to FOB, failing to defend it. I fucking love it. Although I have to admit that hijack gaming is stale as fuck.
I have soup scribe because I want to know more about the deepest icebergs of humanity spess role play without experiencing it myself. Thank you for your sacrifice.
Makes me think of a round where I got banned on goonstation. I'm playing staffie and I head over to the chaplain building to talk with the chaplain, I asked him what god he followed, he responded, "yellow?" I leave, make a flamethrower, and I respond back with burning down the chaplain, I actually managed to accidently blow it up and gotta say, I probably did more than the antags that round. Admins had a talk with me after that one 🤠
The one for Fulpstation might be outdated by like 3 years, they got nothing to do with Oney anymore and are a different kind of containment zone after trying to be MRP.
Heyo one of the maintainers for Citadel here, Goonstation and CM-SS13 is open-source , I'd link them though youtube really hates links. Also even though Goon is open-source, they do have a closed secret subrepo for things that are meant to be well... secret features, it's something I can respect. Edit: fogor to say enjoyable video 👍
skyrat is pretty boring because everyone has their friends and whenever as a borg i go to get upgrades and see the roboticist and their assistant really close to eachother whispering shit i just leave and play on fulp instead
You forgot about FO13 servers, which need an iceberg of their own. I recommend getting in touch with community members from there, such as Methy, Tenias, Dravis, Raptor and a lot more people about how far THAT iceberg goes.
What kept me on goon for years was that TG did not have secrets while on goon you could be a turbo nerd because data mining was not possible. then some ass leaked the source code after gaining access to an admin account. At least i have ticked off a major life achievement from my bucket list, which is getting banned from a SS13 server for "WGW in OOC"
admining in erp servers was both the worst experience i've ever had as an admin and the best fun i've had as one , shit's horrifying in a comical manner
I like yhe fact that the warning asks if you play ss13 if you have sanity but then no option to say yes it correct there is no such thing has a sane ss13 player.
