Nippert is one of the oldest stadiums in college football. It sits in the middle of campus. When I was an Army ROTC cadet there, we did our physical training in the stadium, including an occasional softball game. The stadium used to be a relic on the point of crumbling. It was condemned by the county numerous times. The weight room under the stands had actual stalactites hanging from the ceiling. According to former Head Coach Mike Gottfried, when he showed recruits around, he would stick several keys in the weight room door, rattle them one after another, then apologize that he had the wrong keys. He didn't want them to see the cave. It's had 4 renovations since 1992.

Few things I’d love to point out for viewers who might not frequent or have ever visited Cincinnati. First about downtown in between the Bengals and Reds stadium and the jumbo uncapped parking lot. That area, now called the Banks, used to have NOTHING there about 10 years ago. Starting from the Reds side, tons of bars, restaurants and apartments have sprung up there since 2015. They’ll eventually finish the whole street and section, but they’ve made a ton of progress just in the last 10 years. Secondly, about Nippert Stadium, the stadium sits in the middle of the University Campus and has 2 dining halls and multiple class rooms in addition to being open as a public park when not hosting events.

The reason the football stadium has its offices at the stadium is because they have the entire facolity in the stadium. Fields weight room offices classrooms everything. Also why it cost more.

The normal depth there is about 26 feet. There are a series of dams that keep the river full of water. In old times the river would get so shallow even the flat bottomed steamboats would run aground. I've seen pictures from the 1800s where the boats are lined up where those cars are, with almost no water in the river at all.

Nippert on Gameday cannot be beat. The stadium being right in the middle of campus makes for an absolutely electric atmosphere. Back before FCC played in their new stadium they played at Nippert and my god it was an insanse experience. Gameday activities aside, Nippert is one of the oldest and most historic stadiums still in use in today.

I've attended Stinger and Cyclone hockey and Bearcat basketball games at Heritage Bank Center, but most of my visits were when it was operating under the original name of Riverfront Coliseum. I attended many rock concerts in that arena including the famous Who concert in 1979. It's right next to GAB and would have been worth at least a mention in this otherwise excellent video.

He understates Nippert being open to the public. A lot of college stadiums will open their gates to the public, but Nippert is less a building and more built INTO the campus. It's dug below ground and sits in the middle of campus. Students will walk its concourse to get to classes and they'll sit in the stands to eat lunch. It's really like its own campus quad that sometimes hosts football games.

Do your research before you just walk around Paycor bud. We practice outside field cause we play outside🤤. They literally walk across the way to the stadium where there are facilities and sign autographs for fans on there way. The concrete ocean is filled with people on game day which a fan like you wouldn’t know. Playoff host able stadium (again you wouldn’t know). And these are not forgotten and places tf🤤

I'm sure this wouldn't account for all of the price overage for Paul Brown Stadium, but the fact that it also contains the teams corporate offices, which is pointed out as unusual for NFL teams, must have added a substantial amount to the construction.

When I was in Grad School at UC in the late '80s-mid '90s, Nippert was a dump at first. They had just completed the Shoemaker Center (basketball arena) around that time and basically to make room for it had to demolish some historic maintenance building that was in the open ended end of Nippert, and demolish a couple other buildings, including the book store. After all that area (and surrounding area) was demolished and the basketball arena completed, they started on a renovation of Nippert itself. At that time, the football team was independent and mostly played other independent schools (at that time,) who were powerhouses that used to stomp them every year, such as Miami (Florida), Penn St., Florida St. and Viginia Tech. Nippert, at that time, barely sat 25,000 fans and they had to schedule some of their home games at Riverfront Stadium when they faced the big schools to accommodate the visiting fans. The football team finally joined a conference in the mid '90s when the Metro and Great Midwest conferences merged to form Conference USA (UC's other sports were in both the Metro and Great Midwest conferences at some point prior to the merge.) Shortly after that the NCAA implemented a rule that in order to remain Division I in football, all stadiums had to be able to accommodate a certain amount of seating. So, Nippert got another renovation to add more seating. Then in the '00s, right before they joined the Big East, they had another renovation to upgrade the football stadium and surrounding facilities to make it more appealing and increase seating again. Then, like you stated in the video, the 2015 renovation was the big renovation to add more seating, via luxury boxes and new press boxes, and to try to entice Power 5 conferences to invite them as an expansion school. Of course, originally The Big 12 said at that time they were going to expand then and invite a handful of schools and after all the hopefuls had poured money into upgrades and renovations, The Big 12 pulled the carpet out from under them. Thankfully, as we all know now, UC, UCF, Houston, along with BYU, finally got their invite to the Big 12 for 2023 season (8 years after pouring money into the upgrades and renovations to the stadium and facilities.) Also, announced last year, UC is in the process of another upgrade/addition to facilities that will cost $134 million. A brand new indoor practice facility is the bulk of it being 84,000 square feet. Other sports teams at UC will be allowed to use it also when the football team isn't using it. Also a 96,000 square foot performance center is also part of the new additions. This will be a state of the art facility similar to other power conference schools, containing new offices for the football program, athletic training rooms, sports performance weight room, fueling stations for football, nutrition stations for all sports, equipment rooms, mental health services, and a creative suite.

A coworker of mine from Wisconsin was going to a Bearcat/Badger game at Nippert Stadium. He asked me where he could buy beer. He had a very dumbfounded look on his face as I explained there was beer for sale everywhere, including inside the stadium. I had no idea most college games don't serve alcohol. And after his beloved Badgers were beat, on Monday, he gave high praise to the party atmosphere and fun.

The Reds have a fantastic fan base, win or lose, so I've always felt bad for the fans in that they got in my opinion, a rather unattractive ball park. Granted, it's more than a couple orders of magnitude better than Riverfront Stadium, but the color scheme inside just bothers me.

if they knew you were from cleveland they would have banned you. bengals are so cheap they did not have a bubble until last year. they were using the colleges bubble. bengals and reds got free stadiums they said they were cheaply built. the players have to cross the street to work out. the bengals do not have a team complex, because they are so cheap. joe burrow will leave for another team after they do not sign their top players.

The 2 pro stadiums will never be paid off. Nippert is a great place to watch football. Trivia Elder High School was the 1st local team to win at Paul Brown Stadium(paycor). They played Highlands HS and drew so many fans they had to let 1/2 the crowd in for free. More people showed up for a high school game than showed up for the Bungles.............................................................Titties!
