How to handle it
(5 things to know)
In this video we will talk about what grief is and what to do so that the grieving process is properly developed.
Grief is a normal process that occurs in the face of loss (NOT PATHOLOGICAL). In its preparation there are several stages framed in a process (with its advances and setbacks):
-initial phase (shock) several days
-assimilation phase (where we begin to understand that the person is no longer there) from 2 to 4 months
- accommodation phase (we rework the new reality without the person) from 6 months to 1 year
To help us develop an appropriate grieving process we can carry out the following tasks:
1. Know that the symptoms we experience are normal and adaptive to the situation
2. You have to express and unburden yourself emotionally. Verbalize and share experience
3. Maintain self-care behaviors in the medium term
4. Perform farewell rites
5. Don't make big decisions hastily
Sometimes during the grieving process we doubt whether we need professional help or not. To know if I need help, you have to attend to these keys:
1. When the intensity of emotions, thoughts or behaviors blocks us
2. When intense emotions last in time
3. When we observe that we are anchored in a phase
4. When I begin to limit my normal life (I cannot be at work without crying, I cannot visit certain places ...)
5. When I see that I cannot manage it alone
