The emporer litterally devested himself of that portion of his soul that kept hope, love, joy etc. The question is WHERE he sent it. The answer is that place where his sister of battle Saint Celestine goes every time she dies and is reborn. It ALSO seems strikingly similar to the extradimensional place that the yellow king is marshalling his forces - forces that just so happen to include blood angels that have actual wings. A place that is juuuuust possibly adjacent to the similarly extradimensional forest used by the returned Lion...

Big E heard his son's voice while RG was fighting Mortarian, Big E stopped the Godblight and burned all of Nurgle's garden. He addressed Mortarian the same way as RG, but stated he could perhaps be saved. Then Mortarian was sucked back into Nurgle's house. A small piece of his humanity is still there to have saved RG. Book is Godblight.

very interesting take, very ambitious decision to retcon the emperor from being less of a "Sigmar in spaaaace", to "ha! fooled you! he was closer to Archaon in spaaaace". But it cleans up a lot of the lore, and it's great to see the mythology finally get it's due.

An interesting theory I have is that is the two souls could remain separate, When his soul fragment is found it could be reborn as the embodiment of the emperors love, compassion and hope, and this would be the prophetic star child The soul that remain within the body or the emperor has become bitter and twisted and could ascend within the warp as a manifestation of the emperors hate, tyranny and despair, this would be the dark king This could lead to a new Crusade with the star child trying to ascend to god good as quickly as possible while being chased by both the forces of chaos who see him as the greatest galactic threat and those of the ecclesiarchy who believe he is a heretic, while the newly ascended dark king must be held at bay on the golden throne by the grey knights who must make a stand against the loyal custody to maintain the astronomicon, and to stop the same fate as the elder. This would lead to a scramble by chaos who in a twist of fate advance a new black crusade directly to terra to free the newly empowered dark king, while being held off by the star child’s “daemons” ie, living saint and the mysterious legion of the damned, although I believe these will start to be referred to as Angels of Chaos. I know I probably well off but I love theory crafting

I have the strangest feeling this is going to be a red herring. Namely based on the emperor depicted as getting maimed by horus then with the last of his strength getting a fatal hit in that made the chaos gods flee then obliterating his soul. Horus will either do or say something that will make the emperor believe he needs to kill horus by any means possible and will reabsorb whatever parts of his soul to kill him then "die" promptly after. I think the whole thing wont actually lead to the star child but instead the creation of that myth of a potentially hopeful entity that doesnt actually exist, the imperium wont know, but the reader will, much like slaanesh and the final sword needed for the eldar god of the dead. It will be something ultimately hopeless.

The act of Emperor drinking the raw source of Immaterium substance indicates that The Warp itself is always a neutral yet psychically tangible element to be utilised by beings with powerful enough soul or at least durable shell to utilises it, it makes sense that prophecies or at least the acts of bending the courses of Fates in Warhammer 40K doesn't exactly denies Prophecy as a concept, it's only have the Aetheric nature of Immaterium to be bended and shaped with enough psychic powers, elaborate rituals, utilisation of specific artefacts and other means overturning irony of small beings can influences the courses of The Warp and Realspace duality You can see this with how Daemons and any Warp entity can be permanently killed/granted "True Death" and never be reborn, as if the energies constituting the souls are ruined and dilute the threads of Fate into the formless waters of Immaterium, this applies to chaos daemons or even the advanced technologies that can shut Warp intrusions akin to Necron Pylon or the mindbending will of Primarchs or the technology of Vulkan's (take it, he probably have gigantic and esoteric draconic warp god soul that allows him to mingling into a Perpetual), even Magnus technically haven't die and only shattered to multiple pieces unless if it's given enough Psychic forces to be completely obliterated akin to Horus' warp god soul I think Majorkill's theory of Primarchs being lesser warp gods to how Emperor unintentionally fulfilled pre-humans Prophecy of The Dark King indicates that powers and destinies are interlinked to The Warp, hence Sanguinius and Conrad were struggling in their conversation of understanding how their Psychic abilities works, it's due to how The Warp mastery needs fundamental understanding in order to bend it, The Emperor takes shortcuts to reach what The Old Ones had but he's still only applies it to himself, the revelation of Star Child might acts as catalysts to accelerate Imperium's citizenry to evolved faster as Psychic yet warring race but with affinity to Imperial Cult/Creed (or at least the "Order" side of The Warp to counter Chaos Undivided and even the psychic festering of The Hivemind), it will shakes The Great Game from something of "playthings" by the 4 chaos gods, then twisted into existential threats by 4 chaos gods, Vashtorr might going to contribute as 3rd party to help destabilises 4 chaos gods and their Great Game permanently into genuinely threatening existential warfare for all psychic factions in The Warp, bridging both Immaterium and Materium further and allowing the perpetual wars in Warhammer 40K galaxy to happens simultaneously between two sides of the realm, hopefully it will have positive future lore ripple effects to make Eldar's factions and their lore stop sucking (by making them more relevant actors with Ynnead awakening or Khaine's splinters alongside Isha being transformed and empowered independently) all while making Gork and Mork doing something to both The tiring Great Game of chaos gods to the actual threats of Hivemind and Tyrannids

What if the same is true for the part of the emperor that was cast out? It hasnt been 10 000 years, it has been forever. I wonder how much power could have been accumulated if thats the case

Re: people so quick to ask about the Emperor being an avatar or even deity of Law (aka Order) appears to me as Moorcock (or Moorcock inspired works) fans mistakenly seeing it as a dichotomy. Certainly parallels can be seen with both 40K and Moorcock's Chaos having the 8 pointed all directions symbol (ever expanding in all directions) but I can hardly see 40k's chaos to even be analogous to Moorcock's Chaos which ultimately results in fleeting fascination but no permanence. Moorcock's Law represents unchanging tactics and both are ultimately stagnant. The warp produces so many odd echoes of real space thoughts and feelings (see the T'au deity) that I'm more of the mindset to actually go with TTS's throw away line of the Emperor, during his Crusading days, being an evangelist for a deity of Unbelief or perhaps some other aspect of behavior. Certainly other deities must have appreciated the conquest he committed through violence, duplicity, and suffering. Back to Moorcock, though. I call Law vs Chaos a false dichotomy as the entry point for many Moorcock fans is usually Elric. Many will miss that many of Moorcock's eternal champion heroes ultimately serve balance at some point which may be overlooked for those who are there for the sword and sorcery. I also point to the first trilogy of Corum (another incarnation of the Eternal Champion) for whom while Law and Chaos had a rivalry, they were ultimately human concepts and dwarfed and destroyed by an alien deity named Kwll that served no outright goal that could be fathomed. However Kwll believed by slaying the pantheons of Chaos and Law, it freed humanity. I should also point out that Corum himself was also not human and had no concept of Law and Chaos and found it an oddly primitive religion by the primitive humans he encountered. I could buy that one of the label of chaos (and fan usage of law/order) being a human conceit.

The necros stand in direct opposition to humanity ascending to become a psychic race like the aeldari. The Tyrranids want to eat everyone. And let’s be honest, Chaos will still be a thing until the webway is finished. The dark aeldar are still a problem too. Even if the Emperor gets up, it’s not over. How is it that the Emperor suddenly is so emotionally weak that he has to cast aside his humanity in order to do what is obviously necessary...especially in consideration he's ordered the genocide of whole human populations in star systems just for being hesitant of letting him be the Boss? Like, c'mon, a generation or two ago, it wouldn't be uncommon for a teenaged boy to be called upon to put his dog down as an act of mercy. You telling me the Emperor is weaker than a teenager in this day and age, a day and age he apparently lived through as well? When they do all this romance novel stuff, it's completely incongruous with characters who have literally murdered billions of people without blinking an eye for thousands of years...and now they have 'compassion' holding them back? On the other side of it, it's pretty comedic.

So, theory: The Star Child is going to bring about the fall of the Imperium. The Emperor cut off the parts of him that were the most human, and in doing so cast off his apotheosis. If the Star Child is wrapped in the shroud of the Emperor's Apotheosis, it would still become the Dark King as they thought the Emperor was about to become, but without the knowledge and wisdom he retained in order to understand the choices he had to make. In essence, he's given a toddler the equivalent of a psychic nuke and expects it work out. This has been further reinforced by other people's faith that everything will work out in the end, not necessarily in his love, but that things will be as they should be through the Emperor. In fact I wonder if Tzeentch smiled as the Emperor cast off his Apotheosis, knowing that by doing so he is damning the Imperium despite his then godlike intellect. He is letting the part that will become the next Chaos God be influenced by ten millennia of human suffering before it rejoins the part of him that can understand sometimes suffering is needed for safety. That sometimes a government must choose between aid for the ailing, or safety against the next threat. That limited time means you have to prioritise more people making it to tomorrow even if some people will be in unbearable agony.

If it doesn’t help I could get the throne blow up and then the Emperor will be able to “ die” then go through Apotheosis into godhood . @@ZiGGi03 if I recall correctly, all parties involved in that plot thread of restoring the throne where killed. All knowledge of their work on the throne was lost with them. If the dichotomy of the emperors being is true, then restoring the throne would just prolong his state of being tied to his physical body. Upon his death, I assume that the new “Star Emperor” can handle the projection of the Astronomican on his own, using worship instead of psykers to power it. In a perfect world, the Big E would not power the Astronomican, and finish his work in the webway cutting humanities ties to the warp.

Gosh the story just keeps getting more and more engaging. This separation however worries me; the "good" part separated from the "bad" part might not be good at all. There is a story by an Italian author, Italo Calvino, called "il visconte dimezzato" (the halved viscount) in which the main character is cut in half in war, but somehow his two parts are kept alive. Problem is one of the two ends up containing all of the man's virtues while the other all of his vices. The two parts live separately, one committing crimes and atrocities and the other always striving for good and justice. Sadly though the "good" part, despite pure intentions, ends up always messing up because it lacks the balance and moderation of humanity, so the result is constantly overboard, ultimately hurting the people instead of helping them. This extreme dance of complete good vs complete evil continues until the two parts clash and duel, cutting each other open just in the right way to allow them to be put together again. The viscount is then whole again and the balance of things is restored, with the ruler of the land being a regular human with his virtues and flaws, as it should be. The Emperor looks very much like a halved viscount to me and I can't help but think the only way he can be truly good for the Imperium is as a whole, with his humanity fully intact, the good and the bad.

Perhaps the emperor decided to let the star child accumulate similar power to what the dark king would have had, however the emperor plans to absorb it before its born or even imminent to avoid the real threat of humanity dying in its birth fire. Something recently blew my mind - I think the way the emperor spoke to Guilliman reborn in the throne room was because each seperate shard of his consciousness spoke separately simultaniously. Also, the fact that he called Guilliman his last son/ tool/thing means that he ISN'T the one helping the Lion. That can only mean the emperor's last shard HAS to be the one responsible. That means it's on the wrong side of the rift and not in contact with the rest of himself on terra. So when Guilliman meets the Lion, the Shard will also meet the rest of himself, making that reunion infinitely more amazing!

The future seems interesting. We have, potentially, three Primarchs in the Warp, Corax, Russ, and the Khan. At least three in real space, Guilliman, the Lion, and Vulkan. Would be interesting to see them work together across that line to combine the two halves. As for the Golden Throne, it need a psychic focus after it was damaged so, it sustains the Emperor's physical body, while he powers the machine with his psychic might. Old lore was that it was draining him so, they started the 1,000 daily psyker tribute, right? I do like how we see the actual events of the fights versus the romanticized mythology of the Imperium. I mean part of me just wants a wiser Odin-like Russ in the setting, one that has had 10,000 years of hardship and isn’t afraid to use the Spear. I really do think Russ will have been imprisoned in Nurgles garden and tortured for millennia with the tree of life constantly healing him (how do you make a primarch killing plague without a test subject?). I don't know about this stuff you said about Russ trapped in Nurgles puss infested zits though. @@Ewil.Bluetooth the cliff notes are that it’s pure speculation/fan theory. It would make sense that the tree of life would exist in a garden dedicated to death decay and new life. Him being in the Garden also ties him to his brother and makes the Emperors actions against nurgle more of a 4D chess move.

Imo I would think that the tree was placed in a paradise dimension untouched by the Chaos. It just feels better to me than it growing in puss and having bunches of nasty nurglings as gardeners. I'm convinced Lorgar would be a really good chaos primarch to come back, if only in a minor antagonist fashion, to "help" Guilliman understand what exactly the Emperor is now (in some interesting way, narrative-speaking). You'd have Guilliman-Lorgar as the B-plot and some other event going on as an A-plot.

The issue here is that it would require a little bit of a retcon, unless GW was willing to drop a narrative thread. Lorgar returning would bring back Corvus Corax. GW doesn’t seem to want to make it rain Primarchs, possibly because getting all the Primarchs active would be a build-up to the “end” of 40k - the return of the Emperor to lead the Imperium against the Ruinous Powers in a final showdown.

I like the idea that gulliman is confronting his traitor prothers like a series of trials over coming the elements of chaos individuality. Mortarian and Magnus have been defeated that leaves Angron and finally Fulgrim. If Bobby G over comes them all that shift in the balance of power could spurn Lorgar the embodiment of chaos undivided to emerge and lead his untied legion in numbers dwarfing the black legion out of the eye of Terror and embark on a second shadow crusade against imperium Sanctus. Lorgar failed to overthrow Horus this time he will lead a second siege of Terra with his brothers filling his lead. That would be a cool evolution of lorgars character.

I think Valdor might be serving the good part of the Emperor/the star child itself. If the part of the Emperor is put into a real child, then it would prevent him being able to put the two pieces back together. He can't be doing both, either it goes into a child or he wants to combine it with the rest to make it whole once more. I wonder if that good part wants to be combined again or not. As a warp entity, it can basically travel everywhere and aid wherever needed. It literally grows as people worship it. Does the heartless part think they are more effective as two separate entities?

One question about one of your points, from what I understand, part of the downside of becoming a chaos worshipper was that the chaos gods now eternally own your soul. This always led me believe that "good" souls (of everyday people at least, not so much the space marines or other legendary members of the Imperium) went somewhere else outside the Warp, kind of like a heaven if you will. Because if demons and the chaos gods are going to devour your soul upon death no matter what you do, then why not join chaos to begin with and at least try to attain some power? It doesn't make any sense to me. Every single person before the Emperor entered the warp is just doomed otherwise, so what's the point?

This happens before the final fight with Horus, right? If so, that seems to somewhat contradict what we know about that fight. The Emperor ends up being so badly wounded because he somehow cannot get himself to use his full power against Horus. Because he can't make himself kill one of his sons. Until, of course, he's finally convinced that Horus is truly lost and that he has no choice. So it seems that he still has feelings right up to the point where he's put into the Golden Throne. Also, I'd be quite curious as to how that might interact with what we see in the old Inquisition trilogy where the Emperor's souls is fractured into many different parts. Sure... You can say that any inconsistency is just a result of imperial propaganda. Or just the fact that Games Workshop can't keep their own story consistent. Or simply don't care...

One of the background questions that could impact on this, because it shapes the intention of the narrative: ' Are the two halves aware of / in contact with each other?' if the Big E has some sort of awareness of himself, it gives shape to a lot of things. A way to be of the influence of a God without ascending to Godhood. A way of surrendering his best self, without truly giving up a compassionate impact on the universe, a way of remembering himself but letting go of himself in a moment where he felt he had to, as heartbreaking as it was. It would explain Guilliman's sense that there was a great effort to pull himself back together just long enough to speak more clearly to him. It speaks also to why there are so many interpretations of the Emperor by Psyker's and powerful beings in the 30k and 40k setting. So many legitimate followers of the imperium who believe the Emperor to be a wise but brutal hard-task-master, and others who see him as a loving and aware father of all, and some he see him as a distant, dispassionate, but bountiful provider - and all of those being able to draw legitimate strength and power from their interpretations. The Fact that the Emperor, already a very complex and unknowable being, who had some of his humanity diluted by his bargainings with the Warp Powers and chains of practicality, had to further divide himself to avoid Godhood and disaster, yet those divided halves still having some thin tether back to each other,..... it would lend some extra credence to certain parts of the law, and such disparate paths of faith still having effective impact.

Powering the throne with dedication and love would be good news for all those psykers!! I thought that the Emperor had always been distant and harsh with the Primarchs though? Doesn't the lore suggest they have always been viewed foremost as tools and that the desire for respect/love is a carrot to push them? If you think about it, the primarchs and E arent even really the same species. I don't think the E could lead mankind through all this war without being objective and emotionless. Personally, I don't think that the plotline will be so literal, or that we'll even see a categorical resolution to this. I don't think happy endings or plotlines that make humanity better-off are very fitting for 40k. Something would surely go wrong? This is grimdark! Great vid! Well thought out and presented. Interesting concept to explore. Thanks. I will listen to more.

Since it seems the "Star Child" part of the Emperor is responsible for many of the miracles humanity has experienced, but sure the pragmatic part of the Emperor that sits on the Golden Throne must also be active and using his powers as well. Could it be that the "Living Saints" and similar miracles are from the "Star Child", and that the "Legion of the Damned" is the GTE influence and power? Since they seem somewhat different in their approach and humanity/lack of humanity? Also gotta love that Chaos's great plan of creating the Rift and flood the galaxy with the Warp has had unintended consequences, and could possibly lead to their own downfall :)

Don't know if this has been asked or speculated on but - as an RG and knowing at least a piece of what Corax is now, if it is Manus or Dorn leading the Legion of the Damned - are these Primarchs now Saints as much as St Celestine is. Corax tells Lorgar he is what he always was - the Emperor's Justice (he is winged as well. His metallic looking wings yes but every form speaks of his wings, more than just would as ravens IMO.) Corax always had a 'human' relationships with the Emperor- even maybe having seen his human form when they met... A lot of disperate threads i know but could the influence of the Starchild part of the Emperor not only bemoving the Imperium as you described but also making Saints of his sons in the Warp like Corax, Manus, Dorn, and penulimately, Sanguinius, as the Chaos Gods made daemons of his other living sons in the warp. (Does waiting on you comment in the fight against Horus mean he is even guarding the main piece of Horus soul too since it wasn’t destroyed.)

I think Valdor IS serving the emperor he knew and loved, or rather that part of him. Valdor is defending and taking direction from that part of his souls, just as Malcador spoke with the fragment of Magnus’s soul. Perhaps the grails are the remnants of failed bindings with the Star child. Valdor is trying to merge the fragment with a blank,a pure vessel to receive that piece of the emperor. They’ve all failed, though, and when they fail they become grails.

It would be interesting if the Star Child were born only to immediately fall into the hands of the Tau, Hrud, Rangda or Rak'gol. Some alien species (other than the all-too-friendly Eldar or the few that immediately kill all humans like Tyranid, Necrons and Orks) captures the only hope for humanity and weaponizes him against the Imperium.

OMG, this is the end of 40k, a starchild is gonna be a woman who is key to everything, Emperor needed a part of his soul to be reborn as a woman (who is a key to everything), OOOO NOOOOO, PLEEEEEEASE NOOOOOO

So what body would be able to hold this thing? I imagine that the star child continues to "snowball" in power after its exorcism, and was likely far too large for a normal custodian body to host to begin with, so what would be able to host such a gigasoul and still be trusted to lead humanity?

All the recent discussion of the Star Child takes me to another Dan Abnett golden boy, Brin Milo ++++ Slight Gaunts Ghost Spoilers +++ ++++ Brin had his precognition alluded to in the beginning of the series, he saved then seemed to shepherd Gaunt during his early career with the Ghosts, then he saw Saint Sabbat reborn, and iirc, he watched the original vessel die,and she took a big interest in him as part of her retinue, as now with the first prequel book, he has the oroborus tattoo what means the secret cult of Tanith is at play. Is Brin Milo a segment of the emperor's soul? He's a positive lad who seems to cheer up the men when he plays his pipes, is it just music or other influence the poster boy of the First and Only?

I'm very new to the Warhammer universe, but after listening to virtually all of your videos a few times here's my potentially stupid theory as to how The Emperor beats Horus... What if The Emperor during the fight believes in the Godhood part of his soul/himself that went off into the warp. That it's his faith or his will (which none may outmatch) that empowers him to be able to kill Horus.
