Some time ago I started watching your videos. I am 70 yrs old and know a little about a lot of DIY things including woodworking. You guys are much more courageous in DIY than I was at your age. I had to learn the hard way to do things like you guys are doing. It is fun to watch the ways you guys solved your problems on the jobs as opposed the way I did many years ago. Keep putting out those videos. You do inspire some of us older people.

I am so happy to see younger folks who are not afraid of hard work in the outdoors. Just a tip, you can rent tractors, excavators, wood chippers, etc. Instead of owning and maintaining equipment that you don't use daily. It can save you a lot of money. Best wishes.

I live in coastal VA. There are two kinds of commercial stump grinding co. One comes in, grinds the stump well below the soil, rakes up the wood debris to haul away, & grades the soil smooth. $$$ The guy I hired made quick work of 20 stumps in less than an hour but left everything behind. We had to shovel & grade everything ourselves. $

A gas powered chainsaw is your best friend on a farm/acreage. That and a tow chain lol. I have beavers at my farm so I chainsaw the few branches if any off the big trees that beavers take down then tow to our cabin with the truck. Once at the cabin I cut the logs into shorter pieces and my wife runs the log splitter. Makes for a good firepit burn pile and cleans up our farm. I use a battery powered chainsaw at work and after a few days of it constantly running out of batteries at the start of the day and throwing chains I grabbed my gas saw. I can do 10Xs the work on my gas chainsaw in 1/4 the time then the company battery chainsaw. Plus once you get used to a chainsaw you may find a bigger bar handy also for bigger trees.

I NEVER see people making piles of debris with a box blade. Literally 2 or 3 people I’ve seen do this watching thousands of videos. Good job. If you only have a box blade you get really good at this. And it works better than the loader in most scattered brush and debris situations…

I milled a lot of my own lumbar and some logs didn't look good from the outside but I did some test cuts and found out that it was really great lumber so after that I took a lot of trees and did test cuts up to 3 1" thick test cuts and I got most of the time great lumber.... So if you get a mill try it you may be surprised what you get for lumber
@timmahan4123
@timmahan4123 7 месяцев назад
I used to work with family harvesting and milling lumber. I saw nothing wrong with what you had on-hand; from what I could see. We would have our loggs on a two-year rotation from felling to milling so that the trees (Alaskan Spruce) would age and dry properly. I agree with Sandrasherwood32, you will most likely get some decent lumber from your pile of logs.

There's probably a few 3pt attachments for your Kubota that would come in handy for you: flail mower; brush mulcher; stump grinder and a chipper/shredder. I think Land Pride has at least two of them. It'll take you less time to grind a stump compared to digging it out.

In Michigan, there was a giant sequoia growing near Lake Michigan and the towns people made a plaque for it, declared it a monument and cut all the trees down around it so it "will grow more". The next day, it was struck by lightning, because it was the only thing in the area with any height when the lighting came. I don't know how many giant sequioa they have up there, but I know it's not many. Also, trees don't grow from the ground around them. The take carbon from co2, expel o2 and build their size with the leftover carbon. The only way those trees could have effected that big oak would be if they could shade it out for a good portion of the day.

if you have useable logs for lumber & a good tractor like you have load them up & drive them to your local sawmill & they will cut them up to your specs for 25 cents on the $ of the cost of store bought lumber. or some will come to your spot with their portable mills and you work out a deal with them.

@johnserrano9689
@johnserrano9689 2 года назад
You're gonna have a lot of fun. That tiny Kubota may be really light but she's maneuverable as hell and properly sized for those small trees you have there. Our front lot is the same size as yours, "we" which means me, have been clearing it for 4 years only taking what I will need as firewood and burning the small limbs in a big pile. Problem is I have rock and red maples, red oaks, yellow-white birch over 3' diameter about 80-100' tall making my John Deere necessary aswell as husky 572xp with a 36" bar w/semi skip she's the best money can buy. Fckn white pines (we only have 13 total) are 125-140' tall so when they are felled they wipe out everything. But being such massive trees I have a massive amount of firewood with 6 trees dropped. Maples produce a brush pile so dam big you'd swear there's more material there than the rest of it lol The fact you and your girl are out there doing YOUR thing, yourself is what it's all about. In coming years when you have a little one on the way you will be stressed out beyond comprehension currently, you will get nothing done barely keeping up with the dam lawn alone but the foundation you two are building right now will allow yous to stand tall and strong making it through it. Also you'll be able to upgrade to an actual tractor (I don't say this as a fck face honestly) that'll be able to handle real work, with massive power but most importantly it'll have the weight and size. Our driveway is identical to the long dirt road we live on, was horrible no base when we bought everything, with the tractor I've been able to do everything even remove-move a couple 4'+ boulders with the backhoe fel combo easily. Then run the stone out with the front bucket spread with the rear blade. Packed hard then gravel ontop. The Deere also has a large carryall I built for woods work an anything the truck will get stuck, then I drop it an hook up the 3 point splitter. Do not waste your money on any other splitter even with your mini tractor now it'll run a very strong splitter. Tractor takes the weight and moves it where you need it also sets it at what height you need. Overall you enjoy bud. Congrats on the house. Land is only good for what you use it for, you bit off all you can handle and could want so wear it with a badge of honor nothing like owning everything yourself lol idk where you are but I'm far north part of new England with many animals, far from a city so the bears are naturally spooked by us so besides the massive moose the wildlife's awesome bud, you bring them in with diff feed and leave some downed trees/brush piles for them to feel safe in. I feed nothing myself 100% natural. My dog has a dam blast chasing them so he feels like a big guy lol the point is anything you and her can ever dream of you can do or have it there only time an money can slow it down. Keep kickin ass, just don't get caught naked with the neighbor and you'll always do great

Hi, those logs may have beetles in them but as long as the wood is put, in a kiln, all the insects will be dead, this produces “Spalding”, and that leaves beautiful marks in the wood.

Otherwise the tractor tires will catch the limbs.....and pull them from the loader.
