I think I need to explain my reasoning for not liking having old monsters as key quests and urgents in Sunbreak. They feel like filler quests to me due to having already hunted these monsters many times in base rise. That and the way Capcom marketed their material made it seem like we might get more than what they showed which wasn't the case and made the early game not as exciting for me. I know there are new moves to all the old monsters like in previous titles, but I would've at least liked to see new subspecies for monsters like Tetranadon and Aknosom to name a few.

They just took a different approach to Iceborne. With the continuous flow of new monsters with key quests out of the picture it was awlays engaging and putting you right in the action. However, due to this, most of the already present monsters essentially got pushed to the wayside; They barely had any new moves or behavioral changes. In Sunbreak it seems like they wanted to focus all of their attention to the end- / post-game, where you'll statistically be spending a LOT more time in. Yes, it makes the beginning quite slow (worst parts of the early-game has to be having Tetranadon as an urgent AGAIN + the disappointment Aurora Somnacanth was), but every monster (besides Barroth... again, poor guy :c) has 1 *or more* new attacks and behavioral changes. Still would've preferred something like Tobi-Kadachi as the urgent, seeing as that's the only early-game monster I genuinely still have trouble with lol.

I agree. My friend and I found early MR to be quite a bit of a slog. As much as they changed the base roster at the end of the day everyone wants to hunt the new monsters like Astalos and Espinas. I honestly think it would've been better if they added some monsters like Tetsu for the second MR2 urgent and Zamtrios is unlocked afterwards with Anja and the others. It would've helped it be less boring imo.

I felt the same when I began Sunbreak. Nearly no new monsters for the first key quests 😭 that was a bit disappointing. The beginning felt sooooo slow. I was so bored for the first MR stars quests. But everything improved later on 💪🏻

I think familiar fights early on is fine, because they give you Switch Skill Swap and a new move almost instantly, so they give you some familiar fights to do with a few new attacks so you can get more used to the Switch Skill system while not having to also learn a fight at the same time And I prefer that the bigger, badder monsters return, ill wait 2-3 ranks to see Gore Magala and Seregios then have Seltas and Gendrome return instead just for new fights earlier Also I call him Bob Blood Orange Bishaten

I feel like this would be a non issue with +2 new monsters to replace the Tetranadon and Anja urgents. It's fine to have the repeated monsters on key quests, but urgents should feel a bit more interesting imo. Maybe Tetsucabra to replace tetra and anything else to replace poor weakling anja.

For the monster over Anjanath, how about Banbaro? A similarly powerful World Brute Wyvern with a few unique tricks up its sleeves. Have it turn up on the Frost Islands, and have Bahari be looking for a different lord. Or just pull an Iceborne and have Banbaro turn up on the Flooded Forest anyways.

@@kadachinova5302 oh yeah, that'd work rly well. And probably not that much extra work. If anything, I'd like to see what it would dig up in the citadel map. A slab of concrete? An old explosive? A dragonator prototype?

I think not having a lot of NEW monsters in the beginning is fine actually. They get to show off the new master rank monsters in that time and they have a LOT of new moves that can catch you off guard. Plus, all the monsters they added have ACTUAL value to their armor. None of the new Sunbreak monsters are just fodder monsters and actually are important to your progression.

@@Duppy0906 Yeah they completely forgot about the old roster. They didn't even give them a lot of moves! I say that quality is over quantity. Iceborne had a lot of new monsters yes, but half of them were subspecies, some of which sucked as fights. (Viper Tobi, Nightshade Pao, Shrieking Legi, Acidic Glav, etc.) The only disappointing fight in Sunbreak, IMO, is Aurora Somnacanth but that was a given.

I just kinda feel like there should have been a greater number of new monsters full stop (maybe T1 and T2 monsters should have been in the game at launch, though wouldn't have fixed the lack of new stuff in MR1 and MR2)

@@krakenattackin7617 I'm only barely above MR50, but the game feels finished. Then again I didn't mind the lack of new monsters in MR until Orangaten since everyone had new moves and unlike other ranks getting new armor early on felt worth the effort. It gave me enough time to actually learn the scroll swap system so when they started to bring on the new additions, they were all bangers, no fodder, which is good as my main issue with the Rise originals is that most were functionally fodder in that game.

@@arikaaa69 it doesn't feel finished when you consider the absolutely massive amounts of monsters in games like 3u, 4u, or gu. Sunbreak did not introduce a single new water or thunder monster. Just one returning monster for each

@@krakenattackin7617 sure it doesn't have the sheer quantity that 4U and GenU have, but the quality feels a lot higher than the old games. The price of the new gen polish is that they can't stuff in as much content as previous games, but even in base Rise the momemt to moment quality feels like it makes up for the reduced content. I do agree that base Rise was unfinished at launch, lacking the final boss and conclusion to the story until months later. Sunbreak does not have this problem, it starts and finishes it's story, not requiring title updates to fill blatant holes like not having proper elders or postgame. Sunbreak has all of that at launch, and everything that's unlocked by MR is a bonus. Then again, if you think having tons of post game exclusive monsters is essential for considering a game finished then I get your point, but I'm happy with the endgame we have so far

I still don't understand why great jagras, zamtrios, agnaktor, Tetsucabra and great jaggi are not in the game but there younger versions are. it would make the early game better and maybe a few surprises like Great Macco, great boggi of even a new crab. in my opinion.

I agree with a few other commenters here, a bunch of the old monsters had to be first otherwise they would have been overshadowed by the new ones. I really enjoyed looking for the new moves!

Gotta say the only Monster I was really hoping would surprise me by showing up early was Zamtrios, love my Sharky Boi but unfortunately that was not to be. I feel like early game monsters always get shafted when it comes to returning roster spots, things like Great Maccao or Malfestio would’ve been really cool to see

Hear a good way to think about it, getting all the old monsters out of the way at the start, means the rest of sunbreak will be more exciting with a plethora of new monsters.

I honestly didn’t have an issue with it. The master rank move sets of the older monsters are so much more engaging that they feel new or at least fresh fights again.

you get the known monsters first because you somewhat know what the monster can do and get use to the new pace of the master rank hunts. also so you can build some armor and stuff to get better defence before you get thrown at the newer stuff

Honestly I prefer having to fight the known/normal monsters first, it's nice when you finally get to see one of the new monsters and always gives a wow effect for me, I don't want every new monster instantly spoiled to me.

Yeah the lack of new monsters until the BoB urgent really rubs me the wrong way I still love the expansion but compared to iceborne you Hunt Beotodus Banbaro then viper *counting assignments as urgents* it takes 6 hunts to hunt the returning barrioth

I think the early game is mostly filled with the base roster sense that what happen the the base roster has a lot of monsters (sense Base Rise had more monsters then base world did but the master rank move they got and such us some the fun with master rank to some degree (I think it like this so that unlike iceborne were most of the new monster get shafted for the endgame monsters sense that world and iceborne were more meta focus and each title update having even Harder fights but with more meta focus builds untill we got iceborne fatalis and AT Velkanna as the final peak before iceborne run ends) this so all the new monster don't get shafted as soon you get to end game grind even with the lower tier monsters too!

The issue comes from having the old structure of village/hug, since worldborne had both fused basically they could make it so you only fought new mond

Sunbreak doesn't have a Village/Guild quest list segregation, it's all available in the multiplayer hub (other than the follower quests)

As lackluster as the earlier ranks are for new and returning monsters, I think it's a good problem to have. The early game would've been better with more novelty, but there's only so much time they could spend making monsters, and the really cool and interesting ones just happen to be weighted towards later ranks because you have more to play with on the expectation that the player is stronger and more used to the game. I'd rather see something like an astalos come back than a seltas, to be honest, even if it does make early MR a bit dull. Besides that, they mitigated that issue of not having novelty pretty well in sunbreak with the switch skill swap, although maybe they should've given us one silkbind for each weapon at the start, and the other two switch skills at MR 4, or maybe spread them out so you also get an unlock at MR 2. Missed opportunity there to make the "same monsters" problem feel less impactful, rather than giving us a very strong new feature and then one new move that isn't a silkbind for each weapon. If you're just sticking to one weapon in the story, that's the only new move you'll use until MR 4 so they should've made that move more impactful (besides longsword where sacred sheathe is more interesting than both of the new silkbinds. That might actually be why, if they wanted it to be consistent with each weapon getting the non-silkbind move out of the new ones to start with)

If u watched the trailer you wouldve known all the monsters in the game. I actually loved that they showed the new monsters pretty late. Edit: I did the whole half of G rank in high rank armor.

I do think for being such a good expansion to the base game, sun break is pretty disappointing in terms of actual new monsters. Yes the ones we have are good like melzeno, lunagron and the final boss are indeed amazing monsters, the problem is it feels like their could be so much more! For a monster hunter game inspired by Westen mythology it feels rather bear bones, I kind of wish we had a zombie crab monster or a grim reaper dragon to keep things fresh. I know the sub-species are also new monsters but I kind of feel like they are just element and Colour switches over new move sets and animation, the exceptions are BOB and pyra in my opinion.

@@eren7kruger129 that is indeed very true, and I will say the returning monsters are amazing! The problem for me at least is that I have experienced them all except espinas, which doesn’t mean their bad not by along shot and new players can actually see these incredible monsters for the first time!. I just fancy a breath of fresh air every now and then, especially in the early game of master rank. Sure we got C R A B ( which is utter bliss) but I was expecting just a tad bit of new stuff for the early game like great boggi or the return of great jaggi and etc.

I feel the reason the new roster is pretty weak early game is cuz first rise suffered from too much early monsters and second he had to spend so much time fixing rise he couldn’t add as many new monsters as he wanted

@@Duppy0906WOW It's an unexpected opinion. For me Iceborne (Pre/Post update) has the most perfect difficulty, pretty hard and still pretty easy. All my G-rank quests were at least 15-25 min. Which is way more than all my Sunbreak G-rank quests for now, it was around 9-11 mins (I'm right after the Lunagaron so maybe the difficulty will increase)

Its kinda like this the whole expansion sadly... you get some good new monsters but then right after have to fight base game monsters again. Also giving them 1 new move isn't enough to make me want to fight them again, especially when I spent 40 dollars for NEW CONTENT. 💀 Also they shown every monster in the trailers again...

@@sleeperboi8701 Does it though? A majority of what you said is subjective, and for the content, as of TU4 (Not counting TU5 or BU) Sunbreak has more monsters than Iceborne did after it's Final Update. Not to mention how a Sunbreak's title updates added more monsters per update than icebornes did.

Nah it's fine. I'd rather have the new monster be in the later stages of the game rather than them being front loaded and forgotten. Would it have been nice to get more new monsters? Yes but it's perfectly fine as is. They give you plenty to play with in the Switch Skills and to get used to the new timings of the monsters.

Hard disagree, Its better to show of old monsters with new moves than to just reskin a monster, pop it into a new locale and call it a day (early game iceborne subspecies are a VERY good example)

Subspecies definitely have a role that they fill within the mh series. They help not only demonstrate the pseudo realistic nature of the creatures with the subspecies being geographically separated variations of the base monster, but they are nice alterations of the original fight as well and aren't just the same monsters but with a new move or two. The mh universe would feel dull and vapid without the inclusion of subspecies or other monsters that deviate from the established silhouettes of the regular species.

Iceborne subs were unironically some of the best in the series tho, and I'm genuinely sad none of 'em made their way into Sunbreak. Fighting Coral Pukei in the Jungle would've been fun
