Criminally underrated record

18 years since my high school graduation, 2005. Now I’m 36, married with 3 kids. Life is beautiful. Just like TSL and this album. If I could talk to my 18 year old self, I would say keep grinding, and continue guarding your heart, your love and life will be filled sooner than you think.

This is one of the most underrated albums of all time. Timeless.

First time I ever skipped class was to buy this album from FYE. While everyone was buying Weezer's Make Believe, I snagged this album. Fond memories of this album.

I remember at Warped Tour 2005 in Cleveland, Kenny goes "Alright, so aside from like the Beatles and all that legendary shit... we wrote the greatest song of all time" and preceded to play 'Ready'. After their show, I went straight to the merch tent and bought BOATS. By far one of my all time favorite albums, and Ready still slaps to this day.

When this album came out me and all my friends had always been die hard starting line fans. But people didn’t like this album. It never made sense to me because its incredible. So many incredible songs and lyrics.

Probably the only live version of Cut!Print It, what a banger. Well all of this live is truly awesome...

This album makes me feel something no other ever can. This album was well ahead of it's time, I remember seeing TSL in London when Anberlin and the Early November supported them shortly after this came out. WHAT A RECORD.

Although that producer’s story was short, it really hit home. I’ve heard TSL talk about their awful experience with labels, and back in my younger years (and around the same time) I had a band that went through similar shit. We made an album we were proud of, great producer… But right at the finish line (pun intended) the record label came in and changed a million things… They couldn’t even make any criticisms on the album without mentioning the commercial successes at the time. “It should be more like fall out boy” or “it should be more like panic at the disco.” They just wanted to shape the album to be another cash grab for what was trending, that’s it. And obviously that wasn’t a shocker to us, but it put so much pressure on everyone involved to a point where we just started to resent the project, and shortly after everything fell apart. Obviously TSL survived and is probably better for it, because IMO, every album got better and better. Maybe the older albums have more nostalgia… But I think their albums got more mature and sophisticated as their fan base grew up, which IMO is much harder to do. That’s why I don’t care to listen to bands like Blink182 anymore… The new stuff just sounds like they’re trying to hold onto their youth. Maybe that’s cool for some diehard fans, but I struggle with 50 year olds singing about girls at the punk rock show. TSL/Kenny on the other hand was already writing about their on going experiences one album after it happened. It’s that maturity that makes me come back to these albums, not just the nostalgia. And Kenny seemed to know what we would want better than we did. Songs like “somebody’s gonna miss us” literally talk about how he wasn’t going to keep writing the same stuff over and over, and we will appreciate “the new direction” sooner than later. And he was right.

Love how much Kenny is enjoying Artistic licence. The whole set is banging!

Best band ever

So glad I found this. I’m from the U.K. my second gig ever was a TSL show in Brighton, U.K. in September 2005. BOATS is my favourite TSL record so this is a treat!

I still know every word of every song. I’m having such major flash backs to my junior/senior years of high school (class of 04). And now here I am streaming this on our tv for my 1.5 and 3 year old music obsessed toddlers. High school me would be wondering if I ended up with the guy who made me love this band. I got the geffen demos off IRC the notepad said a member from the prize fight took it from the back pocket of one of the TSL band members who was passed out at a party. The geffen demos are to date my fav TSL album along with the Make yourself at home EP and with hopes of starting over

It was kind of jarring to hear them shit all over The World. I always dug that song, had a little bit of a vibe that Switchfoot did on Nothing As Sound, but it never seemed out of place or anything on the record.
