I recall feeling absolutely down when I heard the Pixar Disney partnership was coming to an end. That's how good their stories are. Steve helping to preserve Pixar's soul also played an important role in helping to keep the company's creativity strong long after acquisition.

It's interesting how not so many people know that Steve Jobs was in Pixar and how crucial he was

Steve Jobs never took compensation from Apple for his return until the end. He never took a salary or cashed in his stock options. He even created a major SEC investigation by forcing the board to reprice his options. He never benefited so there was no penalty. Meanwhile he became the largest shareholder of Disney and was heavily involved in Pixar. Pixar is where he made his wealth.

It really is quite the surprise. Also! You were one of the first comments so you are invited to Caya's upcoming office hours. Just sent an email to our community manager, Páraic, at paraic@slidebean.com and he will send you a calendar invite.

9:04 lol, Disney actually had to send him to screenplay writing school. Talk about being important enough that they invest in your education 😜😂

Education in the right field is only useful if you are in the right position. Too many people with useless degrees, that end up in a mountain of debt.

Ratatouille probably would have been the first Pixar movie to release without Disney’s help

Wait, Steve Jobs was the majority owner of Disney? I can't believe I didn't know this.
@greenbamboo489

Steve Jobs was the largest "individual" shareholder with 7.7%, he was not the majority shareholder.

@@AlexsCreatorEconomyAs the video said in Pixar he was the 100% owner (then sold to Disney) while in Apple he might have been the highest employee but was still an employee with probably some stock compensation.
@AkireMaru
@AkireMaru 2 года назад
@@johnl.7754 I agree with everything you stated, except I believe there are some critical pieces missing. Apple, which was once a partnership between Steve and Woz, became a C Corp to make it easier to raise funds and grow. Steve and Woz, who collectively owned 100% of Apple, funded the company from sales (initially of their most prized possessions, then later from products). Their ownership was diluted when they raised money during the IPO. At that point, just before they went public, Steve was the largest individual owner at 15%. After he was ousted, he sold all of his shares except 1, so he could continue receiving an annual report. Upon return, they gave him obligatory shares (that amounted to less than 1%) of the company since he was the CEO. Therefore, it was that jockeying period that caused him to lose ground, not really the fact he was an employee (since all founders who participate in their company are technically employees especially if the company is structured as a corporation). Unfortunately, per share, Disney is not worth nearly as much as Apple.
