@@Crozut The completed source code for Silent Hill 2 and Silent hill 3 is lost. But they still have a late version of the source code saved. And since homebrewers have created an INSANELY great Silent Hill 2 PC mod. There is more than potential to port the games and smash some well known bugs at the same time. The complete source code for Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 4 is still very much saved. More challenging ports have been successful before. It's more than managable for a SH 1-4 compilation to be made. The reason SH HD collection failed was not due to the games being to difficult to port, it's due to the development team was faced with several setbacks (like not receiving the right source code), as well as really tight schedules and budget cuts from Konami. That game have gotten SO MUCH SHIT over the years, but the fact is that they have continued to ppush out patches for the HD collection a while after internet forgot that game existed. Replayed the game on Xbone recently and a lot of the bugs that people was mad about is more or less gone at this point.

Was never even meant to replace or especially outdo the original, in the first place. SH2 is far too goated, to require gatekeeping mentals..This doesn't even need to be stated for anyone who played the original(s).. Try less to be such a try hard. Remake was always mean to be an ALT😆

I think they just need to fix the animations and sound effects. That's my only gripe so far. They need to make the movement a little more realistic. Some haters are saying this looks like a combat-fest, there's literally at most 3 enemies on screen at once. It's a combat trailer! Clips of combat are edited together, it doesn't take a genius to realize that. Besides that, the mechanics are basically like the original game. You shoot things, you hit things with a stick. Just different means of doing those actions.

It's almost like having a trailer that is meant to hype you up for how cool and awesome the combat is in a Silent Hill game is the problem. The original game in no way emphasized its combat or tried to make it dynamic or cool in any way. Play the original game.

@@adamthompson9785 I did read your comment and I'm denying you ever played the original because of it. The original game did not place emphasis on how cool and dynamic its combat is. It did not have wild camera movements to emphasize the strength and speed of melee swings, it did not have particle effects flying everywhere whenever you shoot something, it did not cake the screen in green goop whenever James got vomited on and it did not obstruct the screen with a giant X button whenever you got grabbed. The quality of the animations is irrelevant, the emphasis is what's important.

I love the entitled fans who shat themself with aggression because a total of 4 minutes have been shown of a game (that is far from done) do not match the image they had from the game after seeing 14 3 hour video essays about it. The ones who have actually played the original game should know that gatekeeping is exactly why we have not had a new game in 12 years. It's refreshing to see more and more giving nuanced opinions about the remake. I've played the games since i bought a used PS2 with SH2 and SH3 back in like 03. Experienced most of what the franchise has to offer, weird spinoffs and IDW graphic novels included. The OG games have insanely bad game mechanics so letting people jump on the series with a game that is more accessible is a good thing. Of all the people discovering the games through YT editorials, i honestly think that a majority would not even play through any of the games because they have aged so poorly. Not sure Bloober will make a perfect job, but if they at least try to redo what they did with Medium, but actually making it scary. I'd be content with just that. I'm just glad at this point that we get new Silent Hill games. I don't think the remake will be actionbased, but some people tend to forget that A LOT of the four first games have way to much emphasis on combat overall, and most of those encounters could barely be evaded. If Bloober made the action sequences hard and unforgiving i'd be ok with that.

There are rumors swirling that the "combat trailer" was made from an earlier build of the game back in early 2023. If so, the game's development is much farther ahead and near final stages. Looks like it was a calculated move to get fan reactions and feedback. Also, it's Konami who decides on releasing updated trailers and even release dates, not Bloober. Konami would be wasting a perfect year to release SH2 Remake since it will be a quiet year for Resident Evil. With Alone in the Dark Remake arriving in March 2024, there is no other major horror game along the way from there up to December 2024. September to December 2024 should be the ideal release window for SH2 Remake.
@Peasham
@Peasham 4 месяца назад
If it's an early build, then feedback is irrelevant as criticisms won't apply while completely turning people off of the game. If it's a newer build, considering the devs had stated they'd completed the game a year back, this is what the game will be like.

@@Peasham Other rumors say this trailer was suppose to be shown last year but held back in the wake of RE4 Remake's release and juggernaut impact. There is a good chance that this game will improve a lot. The fans are contacting the studio and giving them feedback and they respond back. They recently showed a small clip of James holding a gun and it looks much better than that trailer. Regarding the audio, the sound manager responded that due to the compression of the trailer it sounds ugly but we can trust that in the final game it sounds better. It shows that it is still in the development phase. so it means that they are polishing a lot until the release of the game. For me, it comes out next year and I receive a high-quality product.

The original voice actors will most likely not return. Guy Cihi (the voice of James), have mentioned in passing after the initial announcement that no one have contacted him and after the HD Collection incident he certainely don’t want to work with or for Konami again. Long story short, witheld residuals, Konami blamed him that the performance of James was not as they planned. The issue is that Konami wanted ”real” voice actors, they just not wanted to give budget for it. For the project to go around Team Silent hired more or less the first people they found who spoke native english and somewhat fluent in Japanese. Guy has said this a few times, it’s also mentioned in the official documentary that came with the game in some regions. With the HD Collection they were planning to scrap the old VO’s for Silent Hill 2 and 3. The problem is that the performers had in their contracts that they own their own voice work and mocap recordings. Konami wanted to use the mocap without paying the actors. Shitstorm from fans and the actors ensued. Ended up having the OG and a new voice track for SH2 in the HD collection. But the original VO’s for SH3 was never implemented. It’s also Konamis fault that the Hd Collection turned out as it did, the company that did the port was greylisted for a while, they redeemed themselfs when they patched the game for a while after the release, without Konami giving a shit so the devs patched the ports for free.

Finally, somebody who makes and has the same opinion as I do. I was going to do a video on this. I love Silent Hill, and I understand where people are upset. But this is 2024, we cannot expect team silent to continue to use tank controls. Or team Bloober. How else would you do over the shoulder combat? I thought the trailer was decent. I think the new cinematics truly show how desperate James is, like when he starts crying because the key was kicked away from him. And in that moment you can see how detrimental his situation is. And maybe I'm biased and I got this premise in the original game. But it's just exacerbated to the point it cannot be ignored. I believe through this way a-lot more people can perceive the game the way it was intended to be.

The only thing that really concerns me, other than the over the shoulder perspective (which is not a huge deal, but I would have loved to see them stick with the cinematic camera angles), is the "Reap what you sow" line written on the wall. Silent Hill is a subtle franchise, that kind of blatant foreshadowing is a joke. Anyways, I disagree that combat was not an integral part to the game. I always find myself with a plethora of ammunition, and rarely run from encounters, even on higher difficulties. Compared to the RE trilogy, the game gives you tons of ammo, and enemies aren't nearly as dangerous. They can't grab you, they die much faster, and you actually have a useful melee weapon, unlike in RE trilogy. Even Silent Hill 1 discouraged combat far more, with the overworked being plagued by the bird and dog enemies, which are much harder to fight effectively than the lying figures in SH2, due to their hit and run tactics and hiding in the fog. This is actually something I think 1 does much better than 2. Even though the Lyomg Figures are far more disturbing to look at than the generic dog and bird enemies in 1, they're not nearly as threatening because they just aren't as mobile or intelligent in their attacks.

Yeah the sounds aren't all that great but the mechanics look like they'd feel like the original, what made the original so scary was the feeling of uncomfortability and lack of mobility it gave you fear and anxiety kept you on your toes .... nobody complained about that in the RESI remakes so to me it's like people wanna sh*t on this game just to do it._.

I'm very optimistic and absolutely love what they showed. I wasn't expecting much (I was expecting combat, but that doesn't mean it had to be jaw dropping. Just the option to fight, and I'm glad its here!). But they blew my mind with the atmosphere. If there's one thing I ALWAYS have to give credit to Bloober team, they KNOW how to use Unreal properly, and the fog and armosphere looks great. Only concern I have is (which can be cleared by a gameplay clip) how the radio is going to work. What made the original scary about not knowing whats around the corner was that rooms load, so you never know whats behind them and you'd dread opening a door you haven't explored because as soon as you went in, the radio would go off and you'd be attacked. If there are no loading screens behind doors (which makes sense, its modern mechanics), how will the radio give that same "scare" factor of entering unexplored areas? Or will it be like Skyrim where you know an enemy is around and you gotta hunt for them if you want to refrain from being surprised? I don't know, but I have full faith that Bloober, Ito and Yamaoka know what they are doing and I can't wait for more.

I think it's a mistake to assume that SH2 needs to "adapt" to the style of action/horror games (Resident Evil, Dead Space, The Evil Within, The Last of Us, etc) that have nothing to do with Silent Hill. The "action" in SH2 is an office clerk swinging a pipe/wood and running out of breath. A modern version of that would be similar to the mechanics in Forbidden Siren, not Dead Space or Resident Evil. That trailer had enemy hoards, Origins QTEs, button mashing prompts as blood splashes the screen, monsters sidestepping gunshots, Nurses vaulting over ledges to kick some James Sunderland ass (Masahiro Ito even liked a tweet complaining about it on Twitter), diet Resident Evil and TLOU gameplay, Saw-style atmosphere and jumpcuts, and just generally botched the tone of SH2. People need to re-evaluate what they mean when they say SH2 has "bad combat" if they think action/horror gameplay is "fixing" it. Having fun fighting some monsters isn't why the defensive combat is there. You're not supposed to feel "satisfied" beating a manifestation of your wife with a plank. _______________________________________________ >**PSM: Why did you create such an ordinary main character rather than using a tough "commando" type?** > >**Keiichiro Toyama:** Again because the modern horror essence was the key to the game. The main character is not a hero, nor is he a strong willed person. He has and keeps his morals, but he is really just a plain, normal person. His motions, such as swinging around his items and trying to catch his breath after running, falling on climbing the stairs, etc. are not very cool or heroic, but after a while, it would be easier for a player to project himself or herself to the main character. ____ >**Did you have any particular influence with regard to those cinematic camera angles?** > >**Keiichiro Toyama:** In order to give the game a feeling of a real world, but an unbalanced world, we took influences from David Lynch, Cronenberg, that cinematic style. > >**What do you think of other horror games, like Resident Evil?** > >**Keiichiro Toyama:** Resident Evil 2, in particular, put aside the horror a bit and went very "Hollywood." It focused on the action, and felt more like an action movie than a horror game. We wanted to go back to the roots of what horror is supposed to be about. We want to make you scared on an instinctive level. ___ >**Masahiro Ito:** Sorry, I don't have interest in war veteran as a protagonist (in a horror game title) very much. I love the film Jacob's Ladder though. I think that protagonist who is not trained for combat is suitable for horror game. _____ >**Akihiro Imamura:** After the underwhelming response Silent Hill 4 got, we've been gathering opinions from everywhere to make sure we come back strong with the next installment. Sometimes the most vocal opinions, for example the desire for more battles, are not always the best ones, especially for a series like this. We wanted more melee combat in SH4, but realized from fan reaction that there was just too much action, regardless of it being melee or not. That kind of action doesn't make the atmosphere creepy anymore, but kind of ______________________________ >**Akira Yamaoka & Akihiro Immamura (SH4 Post Mortem):** With the SILENT HILL series, we had the policy of not displaying any gauges or icons on the game screen to enable players to become immersed in the world of horror.

If we put the combat aside and focus on the other things, the trailers become even more concerning. The character of James feels and acts very different, long gone is the creepy atmosphere and the limited dark and foggy visibility, some key moments storywise seem very different in tone, there is no subtlety in the environmental storytelling or the visual cues from the wall writings to the beat corpse or the puzzles and key items we've seen so far... It's probably better that the guns don't feel or sound powerful. You're meant to feel overwhelmed in a SH game, with combat being a last resort, or at least very costly on resources. ...The main worry is NOT the combat, it's that the characters won't be true to the original. Story, atmosphere, soundtrack make the game. Combat in sh2 was like stand there hit or shoot the monster 15times with the same attack untill it's finally dead without it hitting you once. wasn't anything special. the game is one of my all time favourites but there are things that wouldnt work as good in a modern remake imo. Id recommend to download the enhanced version of the game since its abandonware and replay it. maybe the rose-tinted glasses fall off for some people when it comes to certain critique points
@Peasham

People are well aware that the combat isn't "good" in a fun sense in the original game, the problem comes in asserting that as an actual criticism of the game when its combat was fit to purpose, it is what the devs wanted to portray, and while you can change the combat to be more "fun" however much you'd like, changing it marks an artistic departure from the original, and Bloober team are very, very bad artists.

People shouldn't be worried in general. It's a game. A remake. If you love the original, play the original. That whole combat trailer nonsense just made me lose respect for the fan base. Fans dunno what they want, they will just bitch just to bitch. And the game is not even out yet.

I think most people don't worry about the weapons/fighting looking too bad, at least i don't. But IT IS rather worrying that they make their second trailer a COMBAT trailer. Why would they focus and that, when the core of this game are the story, characters, atmosphere and locations? I just hope they don't throw in more enemies just to make the game longer.
@Peasham
@Peasham 4 месяца назад
My problem isn't even that the combat looks bad, if it looked perfect it'd still be bad for the game itself as the problem is that the combat emphasizes itself too much. Even if the enemies in the trailer are the only ones we see in the entire game, the camera mimicking TLOU when swinging melee weapons and particle effects flying everywhere miss the point regardless of sheer graphical quality.

I really loved that Bloober refused to show anything at first, and going by the trailers composition (how the trailer is made, and not necessarily how the game looks). It feels like they created it in haste because Konami told them to. Making it a combat trailer is odd, especially since basically no earlier Bloober title had really any combat to speak of.

Bloober team is keeping true to what made the original a masterpiece? 😂I have to disagree. Seeing the nurse enemies acting just like straight up human enemies and even the dead guy being shown nearly full on in the fridge. They are certainly not keeping true to what made the original a masterpiece. Bloober lacks any knowledge of subtlety. You can clearly see thag in the trailer. Sht they even seem to have moved Mary's dress from the mannequin to a dumb closet puzzle. 🤦‍♂️

3 minutes video for the reason you do not worry. 1.5 minute misinformation, 30 seconds personal opinion. NO, TEAM SILENT WAS NOT FORMED BY PEPOPLE WHO FAILED OTHER PROJECTS. This is literally never confirmed, there is no official source for this, and team silent members even denies this rumor. Also the "combat was not good in the og" is a recycled opinion that misses the point. We are suppose to get a remake to get improvement of graphics and gameplay. OG is 22 years old stop creating excuses to defend the garbage combat. Remakes are for a reason, we can't just lower the nowdays standards because some people can't stand critique. 3 minutes video opinion without giving reason, facts or common sense.

tbf. A lot of the trailers for the first four games had tons of combat in them. We have no idea how much susceptible the enemies are to damage. And maybe they intend to make the combat as a last resort. This is a minute long trailer, we can't make these kinds of assumptions like it's definitely going to be Resident Evil kind of action. And Resident Evil and Silent Hill have borrowed from each other since the start. Don't you remember that Capcom literally made Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8 in first person just because of the success Konami had with P.T.?
