What pisses me off the most is demonetisation of educational channels, particularly history ones. Also, Ive observed a curious new phenomenon among RU-vidrs. Quitting not because of burnout, but general frustration of where the site’s going and their ambitions/values outgrowing it. While being at peak views and still having fun making videos. Jake Roper’s “Exiting RU-vid” video sums it up perfectly. Often health and other life reasons come into play, like the last straw, so they finally have courage to pivot their career. And they don’t just quit altogether, but set some transitional period.
Values naturally shift in life, and for RU-vidrs, when their values shift the rigidity of their channel really screws thar up So I don’t think the values changing is much to do with RU-vid, but what and how they can adapt after those values change is a big one to consider
@@YuzuruA Cause y'know, educational history channels sometimes talk about the terrible stuff that happened in the past, like slavery, wars, and youtube doesn't like anything remotely bad in its plataform, everything has to be happy rainbows, funny poopoo pranks all the time.
oh hi Andriy, didn't expect to see you here RU-vid as a platform itself is atrocious nowadays not just for the creators but for the audience. and I don't even feel like commenting anymore, it's so frustrating. comment too long? "controversial" word (usually something dumb like "c*lt") or swear word? posted a perfectly valid link? your comment is deleted. meanwhile there is an epidemic of sub bots everywhere on every single fucking channel, they post spam links everywhere. there are also trolls who say stuff like the n word over and over again, and their comments never get deleted. it's like they're making the free app worse and worse with every update just to make you pay for the premium version. which also, judging by app reviews on Google play, people really hate.
@@yvngmanj Same opinion. RU-vid has best practises that everyone's circling around and you're heavily punished for doing anything 'too creative or different'.
@@ImKibitz Yeah i agree, as someone whos wanted to do youtube since a child(2008ish), its been pretty discouraging seeing what its turned into today and what it takes to be successful nowadays not to mention the saturation of the platform. But hey big fan thanks for the 2 seconds of your time man you put a lot of behind the scenes work into your vids half these youtubers dont do anymore keep it up ❤️
I find it frustrating that uploading variety content is a death wish on youtube now. My older channels got loads of views on simple song parodies but now that I have the tools to produce good videos I'm stuck competing with actual networks. lol
ESRB ratings would be nice to apply on RU-vid. Going from 13 to 18's a big jump in audience age, and just because we swore shouldn't get us age restricted to 18+. It'd be great if content disclaimers in the beginning were valued by the community guidelines to prevent strikes or restrictions.
@@andrewplatt7076 That's interesting to know they have a rating system, but haven't put it in place to allow better moderation with community content. Such a system would help a lot, especially if we're weary about whether or not what we're about to upload could put us at risk. More trust should be put in their creators to self-moderate their content responsibly with those ratings.
Depending on the region, in the terms of service of YT you have to state that you have your parent´s permission under 18!!! But common sense is the rarest thing in the world, and apparently, all the COPA thing had a lot of legal overreaches
@@gfullcrayon562 Children and or people who have the attention span of a fish. Which to be fair sometimes is me but damn, his content gets annoying after a while.
As soon as yt had a “kid friendly” option, and I clicked yes, comments were automatically turned off. So my G-rated videos are all “not kids friendly”, so I can have comments from adult watchers or their children watching on their parents’ accounts....I miss the authenticity and lofi yt days....I’ll never figure out the algorithms. Great authentic video.
Sad to see tik tok “influencers” on the trending page and not creators. RU-vid started going downhill after the media/people with anime profile pictures started cancelling everyone. Edgy creators breathe, and moderators ban them to the shadow realm. 😞 I miss the old RU-vid.
Tiktok and Twitch will allow new people to get views, and not coincidentally, they're getting all the new stars. This kills RU-vid's social momentum and image of coolness to new viewers, which ultimately will kill RU-vid. They'll deserve it too.
Correction : They will "delete" anything they think is bad. I just upload videos on things I'm doing, but I don't "watch" youtube much anymore. I watch the occasional video on something like "how to" Things. I also watch my friends videos who are people I have met on the platform. I have been making videos since late 2006. Really I have thought about quitting several times and there are alot of things I don't film because I know youtube will flag it. I don't make comedy videos or videos with my family in them anymore either. The golden years of the Tube are gone it's been a dying platform for a while. I'm not a young hip guy anymore but I still like making content because its fun. It has never really been about the money for me just something to do.
I actually miss the RU-vid of 2005-2006... and really up through 2010. I loved RU-vid before monetization. I loved being able to just upload a family video to share with my fam and funny videos of people just being themselves at home and silly. But with monetization, RU-vid kinda died for me. I miss fan-videos and compilations set to music without the intention of making money. Money money money... Kinda ruins everything.
I used to love RU-vid for the spooky content. Conspiracy theories, mysteries, unsolved murders... I love all of it. I don't believe any of it, but I still enjoy it. And while the true-crime videos are doing OK, conspiracy videos (in English) are gone. Those were my favorite. Especially mundane ones, like, is blue Gatorade the Holy Grail, or some nonsense like that. But now anything titled 'conspiracy', no matter how innocent, is shadow banned. :(
Twitch is going to replace RU-vid. RU-vid's main recommendations are stolen or reposted television and Twitch streams, and neither of those categories have any loyalty to RU-vid itself, they simply ultimately drive people off of RU-vid's platform and to the place where it originates. This site has dropped 50% over the last 5 or so years in trends and won't be recovering.
Yeah. I pulled the plug on my channel today. I was an instructional channel that best works with a playlist because videos need to be seen in a particular order. But since instructional Tarot doesn’t fit YT’s love of pushing hot viral garbage of “pick a card/instant Tarot readings!!!!” I got fewer and fewer views over time. I repeatedly had to answer comments for more info with links to my playlists. I did this for 5 years. And UGH! The automated captioning kept scrambling technical terms. (“Queer ant” for Querent, for example.) So I had to do closed captioning by hand. Other problems: Tarot decks have artwork that oh my clutch the pearls...have nude drawings. It is ART. But try explaining that to YT AI. I was never in it for the money. I had hoped to reach an audience that would benefit from my decades of skill and knowledge before I die. So this traditional way of Tarot reading dies with me. Fine.
At last! Someone who agrees with me about why RU-vid is going downhill. That is why I have decided to leave my chances of becoming a huge RU-vid celebrity behind and focus on becoming a hard working employee soon. I will be posting less content due to my current time schedule changes and RU-vid issues that I have no control over.
Happy New Year Andrew! I appreciate your Youtuby Sleuthiness, and wonder if RU-vid will get so boring that the OG content will sneak back in before it officially kicks the bucket. Only time will tell!
It seems to me there is still a lot of variety on RU-vid, with real people rather than polished media enterprises. More than other places, at least. I don't watch any of the 'big' channels or slick polished channels. I search out what's interesting to me. I rely on my subscription feed rather than the home page, and never look at trending.
Yes, humor is completely dead on youtube. Is there anyone left, they are at least not showing up in my feed. "trending" have bin dead for years, 99.9999% is complete garbage for 12 year Olds. The only thing good on youtube are history channels.
I think it really depends what you're looking for. There are quite some channels I still watch with joy. Those aren't the mainstream. What I see the most is that absolutely no one relies on just YT anymore. A lot of people back that up with things like Patreon. But yeah I don't like the whole censorship. Even for stuff I don't like or agree with. It just doesn't make any sense from a democracy point of view and freedom of speech.
one thing wich might be of interest, i think im kinda in the test group for an Age Restriction . There where Videos wich i couldnt watch because of an age restriction and to resolve that i would have needed to upload a picture of my ID or something with Bankacounts ... they are actually killing the website more and more .... one might think that it would stop at some point yet ..... they kinda just continue lowering that coffin
not possible. youtube from the beginning was a sinking ship that's only stayed above because it's sheer size already scraped the ocean floor. no one else can do this.
RU-vid back then: Does anyone wanna see me dive off a mountain into a 2x2 meter pit of water? RU-vid now: I like trees. And apples. Also I can open a box with slime.
What about a video on alternative or or potential challengers to RU-vid? Obviously they don't have the monetization yet, but anything with a big audience can be monetized. You could upload some of your catalog on each, talk about the experience and how many views they got.
I laugh with it'saGundam, Sometimes he does not gives an F and uploads something non PC. Mr Beast shouts at me the five seconds that takes me to skip his Honey ads, never visited his channel.
Itsagundam is great. His videos are spot on. I dont get recommended any top youtubers. My main interests are music production, music gear, music itself , space / science videos. Then for more humor / entertainment it's more right leaning channels like memology, itsagundam, and others. I'm very liberal as far as body politics go. But more right leaning in other areas. Cancel culture and mainstream internet culture is so politically correct you have to walk on eggshells and I'm sick of it personally.
Not gana lie I feel this man, most of times i'm looking in a youtube channel which is comedy & having fun while watching it. It's just sad to see that youtube is like a tv show now a days, And hard to say if there being real or not, or something other stuff??.... I don't know m8 I can't explain it well (all in all its just sad).

• 2:47 - Not everyone. Educational channels, animal channels, tech channels, art/craft channels, (most) ASMR channels, (most) gaming channels, and various other categories of channels are doing fine without having to self-censor or walk on eggshells. It's mostly the reaction, history, true-crime, political, commentary, and comedy channels that are having problems, those and whatever genre Jaystation was. • 3:15 - B-b-b-but RU-vid said they don't even know how the algorithm works anymore because it's an A.I. that's evolved into a blackbox, so they can't explain how it works or does what it does. Are you saying RU-vid lied? 😕 • 3:34 - It's not that Mr. Beast knows what works, it's that he's achieved critical mass and can mostly float on that, just like Pewds (or any thots/e-girls). Most people who watch them are bhakti simps who will keep watching indefinitely. It used to be that people would turn on you in the blink of an eye, but these days, the opposite is true; despite "cancel culture" being so popular, it actually takes a lot to get people to abandon anything or anyone they've glomed on to like a lamprey. • 3:58 - I agree. Beast's "content" isn't really content. Sure, it's (supposedly) nice to give stuff to others, but as you said, it's not really _charity_ when he's actually making a profit from it. And as I said, it's not even content, it's not even a reality show. 🙄 • 5:15 - Not to mention content-farms that automate the creation of videos (and even the creation of channels). ¬_¬ • 5:30 - The demonotizophobic euphemisms are really grinding my gears, especially when they're replacing innocuous words out of paranoia like "dead" or even "dyed". The worst part is when educational YTers do it because the resulting videos are incredibly unprofessional when they use silly replacement words. 🤦 • 5:45 - These are disgusting. There's nothing worse than a scumbag who got rich with ease bragging about it. 😒 • 5:48 - It's _Minecraft,_ it's always _Minecraft._ • 6:08 - They don't want kid's content for legal reasons and they don't want adult content because of advertisers (I guess advertisers assume children are watching RU-vid despite COPPA, either that, or advertisers think adults are soft 🤷). • 6:52 - That's all you watch? Lucky. After they permanently forced the new YT style playlist UI pages in November, I started culling my subscriptions because it's now much _MUCH_ more effort to watch YT than it was with the old playlist page design. And yet, I've probably still got over 1,000 subscriptions (there's no way to know exactly how many because the subscription manager now also uses the new style and is thus less functional and completely useless, plus the export function has been removed altogether, and Google Takeout is _still_ broken for more than 1,000 subscriptions 🙄). Also, I've written some browser extensions/userscripts to make it almost as easy to manage playlists and watch videos as it used to be, so I'm still watching 100-200 videos a day, ~40+ hours. I watch almost everything at 2-2.5× speed (including this video), and anything that doesn't require listening to/understanding the words at 4×. I need to quit RU-vid. 😕
Ads on every video (not just partners), their creator academy tells you explicit templates to follow to get noticed, they demonetize content via their AI (and manual review is hit or miss, when it should be near perfect, because actual humans are watching), and more & more content bubbles forced onto users (via forced videos "based on what you like to watch" on people's home page, rather than subscriptions). The last one is particularly insidious - they acknowledged that when they had subscriptions first on the home page, people (gasp!) rarely ventured beyond. Can't have that now, can we? You don't know what you like! RU-vid knows what you like, and you are going to enjoy it! So yeah, it's a race to the bottom. I feel like Amazon is the only legitimate rival, but after a strict policy of ephemeral content (VODs gone after 60 days), you either swallow your pride and continue to use RU-vid, or you hop onto seemingly infinite blockchain-backed alternatives like BitChute & LBRY (or odysee - whatever tf it's calling its service). Not a lot of choices currently. Then there's further splintering, with offshoot projects trying to split from RU-vid (such as Nebula) - creators with deep pockets & audiences, trying to create subscription-based educational content, away from RU-vid's iron grip. It's all a bit messy. I don't like the milk toast, non-controversial, homogeneous custard that gets millions of views on this platform. But my reasons for being here are different to many others. I would say that most people that make content on YT have an eventual dream to become e-famous, have their content monetized and widely circulated, and quit their job. I just want to be here to create, and enjoy others being creative. Oh, that and speaking my mind without holding back. We'll see how long that lasts. Peace
Hi, Andrew. I stopped caring about the "no cursing" rule on RU-vid around the end of 2019. Seeing your list of "demonetization" words opened my eyes to the fact that the only way you can be yourself and successful on RU-vid without transitioning to this "character" everyone thinks you are, or being a corporate puppet to the monetization program, is if you were here on year 1. One of the reasons I started a RU-vid Channel was to do the content I wanted, not what others expected. If people supported me along the way, that's great. I'm happy that I was able to entertain at least one person in the world with something that I loved. I am grateful that RU-vid is allowing me the opportunity to make my own content. But it stops becoming fun when an outside force as more control of what I can make. It's my channel after all - just like your channel is yours. It isn't right to be pressured into making a certain type of vid we don't want to make. And I refuse to bend even if it's for money or more exposure. Both of those two are nice to have without a doubt, but I won't change. I won't be shadow-banned (my content isn't edgy enough), but my channel probably won't be eligible for monetization when the time comes. I have a question: how many times do you have to curse to get kicked out of the monetization program? Great stuff, Andrew! Keep up the good work! You have my support always!
The worst thing os that you can't even find new intresting people. All the content I watch are ppl I'vs been followimg for uears and stucked in the hundred k subs. I just can't stand the other new youtubers who are only here for cash and have nothing to offer. The real talents and intresting don't even bother with yt anymore. Hopefully a new platform that is worth it comes by
I find now I use RU-vid for either gaming videos or educational/docos videos now. And I reckon those are the two biggest things going on RU-vid. The days of watching Vloggers are gone which I think is pretty sad. It was fun following people and feeling like you were part of there life. Like everything though, nothing lasts forever.
I think it's just that we have to be smarter with our jokes, in the current climate you can't just swear at random times for a comedic punchline you gotta spend more time coming up with a way to say something which says the same thing as the swear word. Also I think there are funny people on this platform still, you just gotta actively search for them rather than go by recommendations by RU-vid.
I mean. I have been spooked to actually begin doing shit on youtube. I have this one series that I have been sitting on that is more or less absurdist rage bait, but can definitely be classified as misinformation.
One thing that I never see talked about and infuriated me: Other people being able to monetize MY child for their gain without my permission. I uploaded a private video of my son (he was 3) singing along with a song on the TV. It was adorable. So I uploaded it as private to share only with my friends and family (because it was the only platform everyone had access to, and I'm lazy. lol) Because of the song in the video, it was instantly flagged by the 'owner' and my video was monetized for them only. I was pissed. First, it was a PRIVATE video. Second, they MONETIZED MY CHILD WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. I didn't even have a right to deny them permission to monetize it. I get it, I can't monetize their song, but why the F doesn't it go both ways? Why are they allowed to instantly monetize my child without my permission but I can't monetize their song without their permission. That sh*t should be a two way street. For the record, I never wanted to monetize it. It was only going to be seen by eight people anyway. I immediately filed a counter claim on the copyright since I owned 100% of the copyright on the visual content itself even if part of the audio was someone else's song. I also took the video down immediately after filing my counterclaim. I never was able to share the video because it always got a copyright claim or even a Takedown notice on Insta.
Oh... and when I filed a complaint with RU-vid over it because I deemed that as using my son for their monetary gain, and an abuse of my child's image, I never got a response from RU-vid. No shock there.
@@toxicginger9936 YT is famous for claim copyright for non-copyright content, counter claim is useless since the YT system is design for the "copyright holder", and you will not get response if you take down the video, I think in your case, legal approach is the only way.
@@diysmallthings I wasn't necessarily aiming for a response. I only wanted to speak my mind and get my frustration out of my system over the deep flaws in theirs. Even if no one ever read it, it was therapeutic to write it, if you know what I mean. I am one of these archaic people that miss the days when RU-vid really was just about You. When you could make something fun and creative, and it was about home videos and/or creative expression and not about money money money. Monetization ruined RU-vid is so many ways.
This was really interesting to hear. I have been an avid gamer for my whole life and just decided to start uploading to RU-vid in December. I have been lucky because I am starting to get some traction but it has solely based on my marketing experience as a paid professional and just taking those skills and applying it to YT. These confines you need to stay in is creatively stifling for some so you either draw within the lines and min/max the hell out of your niche/marketing or you sell out and just chase what is popular now which is not for me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
*All of this is due to the mainstream media getting upset that independent content creators where gaining a foothold and was starting to overshadow the Mainstream media .* *As for me .* *I just post Gameplay videos and when i get into something .* *I post about that .*
Hey man, you do what you gotta do. I'd rather see videos that you sincerely enjoy making rather than feeling pressured to churn out something you don't want to do or are bored by.
I have a premium account for my main account and I've been using that account for years so most of the recommendations I get are stuff I actually wanna watch, to the point that I rarely look at my sub feed and just look at what's recommend. But recently i made a new channel and it's a regular account so the recommendations were mostly dog shit, plus the site is so saturated in ads now!! I didn't realize how many ads are actually on this site now. It's so ridiculous. There's definitely a market for non PC stuff (comedy central and adult swim come to mind) but it seems like youtube wants none of that money for some reason. I pay for premium and I'd pay an extra two bucks just to be able to have uncensored non-PC content.
I know that the RU-vid content i used to watch 15 years ago has changed drastically from what I watch now. I used to enjoy things from animal videos (over done!) To a very popular guy named Ryan Higa. (miss him, he was talented) and RU-vid has become so anal over everything.
*insert "To You" gif in response to the title* I'm enjoying animation meme, lewdtube, animation reviews, and game reviews/playthrus just fine. I can't speak for folks who enjoy youtube personalities tho... best of luck
I mean I agree with you the two things that's made me laugh in the last years was Unus annus and marks muffled screams and that's not even most of the shiz I watched/watches
When the market invades, everything get standard according to what makes the most money. By doing that, it lose personality and originality, because that it´s a risk. The worst is that it´s not only invading the economic aspect of youtube, but also the way culture is created, limiting only to the one that stands the market rules. Viva Perón, carajo ahre
yeah, i kinda just watch vinesauce and the off..."look at this thing video." id say etika was the last bastion of prime youtube content. but look where that got him.
I don't watch what you do. My fave channels are small. Bobble Head Homestead, Beau Of The Fifth Column, some music reactors, some doc sites. Murder mystery. Archaeology, anthropology, history. Also, God help me, reddit sites. I watch a lot of ASMR. I have some issues, because my right hand is packing it in, and my insomnia keeps putting me to sleep during live feeds. I keep falling asleep during the Guess Map quest games on Imagine If The Internet Was Real!!! I don't play vid games, and don't watch Twitch. I have never watched any of Mr. Beast. I am 57, and am always in fear that a lot of what I like is going to be driven off the platform. Because it's "family" oriented.
I love your show. I agree with you in a way about the boring content. I think they need to change their public relations and adsense relationship with the creators. Clearly, they could go either way. If they want to keep growing they will learn from their mistakes because large communities are getting so upset they are leaving.
Hey, Andrew! I want to ask you smth. If i make a slime channel, videos.. For any age group, do i have to check the "this kids video content".. Ive seen slime videos which dont have that and also the popular kids channels which are clearly intended for kids, they dont have that option. The Diana Kids Show or Nastya Vlog... How is this? The slime and the obvious kids channels?
@@YTAnalyzed thank you so much for answering. i really dont understand and i dont have whom to ask except.. You. I saw that according to COPPA slime channels are seen as "kids content" and i see the majority of slime videos NOT being marked as "kids content". I saw only few of them being marked as made for kids. I want to start a slime channel and i really dont know what to do. I saw you can be fined 42 k per video. But how come they arent fined ? Also i couldn't find a video where to understand how i can make an ad sense account. But ill search more. Im so thrilled to start this channel and i know its going to do great, because im so good with colours and im into craft, i just have to get the supplies i need to get started. Which is going to take a bit, unfortunately. But it makes me so eager to do it asap and the second one as well with my little girl, because i see these kids videos, where actual kids play pretend do so good and she is really beautiful.but we have to wait a bit more so she can understand what shell have to act. This summer shell be 4 y and a half and i hope shell be ready. And i hope i can get the supplies as soon as i can. You cannot believe how eager i am to do this channel. I look into everything. Lights, camera, the set up, what you need to know to do good.. I can hardly wait the day when ill get a good camera and my supplies from ali express. I can hardly wait for it to come :)
Great video as always but i have a question that might be related to the content of your channel, how would article 13 affect the European side of RU-vid? And how worse would all the copyright bs get?
I agree. All the yotubers that inspired me are boring now. But I cuss and get drunk and play video games of all generations on my channel. I ain't afraid of the algorythm 😉
it depends on how much of it is audience preference vs algorithm. if YT is shadowbanning every kind of 18+ type content, then it wont matter if people try to rebel and upload it...
Now more than ever I'm finding it hard to find smaller youtubers that produce the nuggets of decent content and don't follow the same cookie-cutter style content that youtube pushes me to watch, despite as many times I click 'Not interested' and 'Don't recommend this channel' etc. The algorithm has boiled down to what may as well be my subscribed to channels tab with videos that look like they below to the Trending section where the low tier role model youtube content creators reside There's a whole bunch of stuff I have yet to see with my interests and yet it feels I really don't have any control over what I want watch like I used to before
I agree that RU-vid has grown more boring and stagnant overall. Every once and a while something will come along and cause some new excitement, like Team Trees or Unus Annus, but generally I get a feeling that it is hard to find new and exciting content anymore. Everything (that our RU-vid overlords will allow) has been done in some form. People make more content and some find a specific new way to do things that make it more interesting, but those kind of RU-vidrs are few and far between, at least for my interests.
I have been watching YT videos since 2006. Back then you could email YT and get a reply. It was like a community with bright young things making amazing content while limited to 10 minutes or 20Mb uploads, which meant rendering in low quality like 340p to get a decent length of video. Now everyone has high quality video and audio to create really boring content because of the restrictions. Creativity has been strangled and is now on life support. However I believe that in time alternative platforms which allow free speech will eventually kill RU-vid. I could take 10 years, but it will happen when they decide to merge to form one big platform.
yeah same 100%. youtube is just used as background noise at this point while i do other shit. i don't even touch the trending page bc nothing good is ever on it lmaoo youtubers like the right opinion, jcs, reignbot, tech rules, etc, all make videos i love to watch, but they're content isn't quick to make so it's a lot of just waiting around until something interesting finally pops up 😔
Gonna kinda disagree on this one, you just have to know where to look. The quality content isn't what gets the most views, their are dozens of quality(very subjective) channels that can still get millions of views, but definitely not as popular. I guess maybe I got lucky and stumbled into a pocket of youtube that I enjoy. They channels just aren't frontrunners anymore. They're not the stars, but they are still out there and are financially viable.
I agree, I hate the censorship on this site but I definitely have a bunch of people I love watching regularly who aren't necessarily trending or have millions of subs. You just have to know where to look. Ive been searching up random video essays lately and been finding lots of interesting smaller channels that way, so searching random topics is a good start
Question...I got a new phone and I can't sign into my business account. I've done what I normally do to switch accounts and it doesn't show up. I searched the account, Hirsh Home Investments and I can see it, but not sign in...
... i tend to watch plumbing videos lately... theres nothing on youtube like you said. billions of videos but nothing interesting like we are stuck in a creative slump
As someone who has been trying get big on RU-vid for nearly 2 decades I think my chances of being successful on this site are dead. I don't want to seem negative, but realistic judging from the landscape of RU-vid. I am willing to give it another shot, but I doubt I will ever get big. The deck has been stacked against people like me.
It is pretty boring all I am seeing is these random videos. It’s like the videos where they tell you to guess something and you will get pinned or it says it won’t achieve a certain amount of something. Do you know what I’m talking about
what still makes me laugh on youtube -bdg (his own channel and unraveled on polygon) -Let's game it out -pokemon challenges -tom scott (idk why British people) BGD lost unraveled. Let's game it out takes too long to upload and is slowly becoming less vulgar for the worst. Pokemon challenges just started having all his videos censored. And tom scott is just always politically correct. A lost of many gems.
[edit - re funny channels] just come back from Fun With Failure. Dallas has just uploaded a very funny vid (audio really) of him, and for the first time, his son, reading things that kids say. He does a mix of Reddit readings, but not in the boring way, with other things from newspapers and the like (his Florida Man vids are hilarious). He's got a really great sense of the ridiculous, so if you want something to make you laugh, go there. He's criminally undersubbed. I usually end up giggling at the very least, and this time it was a definite LOL one. Andrew, the ads inside the videos, I've heard that YT is getting all the money for them. Is that true? If I want a good laugh, Mrs Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian (TM) Glory! [You have to watch it, it'll make sense], the Living Dinosaur, CoolHardLogic, and Randy Rainbow are good bets - Fact Fiend for adult humour (mostly the language - ditto with TLD), along with Qixr (I think it's spelled that way), another one for adults. Nothing nasty in any of them but I'm often left laughing a lot. Jay Foreman (his music & Map Men vids, in particular, though not only them) is another one. I've never seen, or wanted to see, Mr Beast or PewDiePie or anyone like that. Smaller channels are by far the most interesting ones. The only relatively big channel I watch - because he's interesting and frequently silly - is Tom Scott. And for fun, Jelle's Marble League :D. Do whatever you want, Hun, no good content comes from someone who forces it out. I've written fiction for years, haven't written a word in the last two because it wasn't fun anymore. Only got back to it 2 days ago 🤷
Watching a lot of RU-vid’s swing towards anything more economically stable for them is really boring, it’s not even really youtube anymore. It’s just TvTube now.
i feel like even tho the highest views shit on youtube is more for kids there still exist a bunch of good content micheal reeves for example . or even some niche communities for some niches things
Yeah it sucks at least things can and are still changing but it will take long like very long unless some sort of external force comes and change it for the better
I keep getting recommended the same videos over and over and over. And the ads are out of control. I don’t mind watching an ad to support a channel I like, but when they give you a half hour or longer ad for a five minute video? Nope. Another couple of things: If you happen to watch one political video, you get slammed with others. Watch one that turns out to accidentally be for the side you don’t support, you can’t get them out of your feed. I don’t know if it is even worth having a channel anymore, because whatever you say, if anyone in control sees it, and disagrees with it, they’ll find any way they can to demonetize it, even just the use of one word, then they categorize you. Try to break out of that box? They don’t recommend the video. Can’t win.
