21 and work for the county, in Florida and with this new hurricane then only thing keeping me sane is my switch which I can only play for like 10 min at a time, Before some shit pops up I need to fix
I run most of my games at 7-10w. I found a setting that I liked with good performance and then started dropping the watts one at a time until I started seeing a performance dip. It has really helped out the heat and battery life.
@@kellyd1910 well thats the price you pay for this kinda device, unless you want valve to make a tied down device like the switch and have none of that freedom
@@edmilsoneletrica ture...but carrying around half a pound console just to have an hour gameplay doesn't make much sense for most.gotta wait until some great battery gets invented.
I have 2, one with windows 11 and a second with steam OS i get about 2 1/2 on the windows and 3-4 with steam OS. if you are running Retroduck for emulation you get even more. i have never needed to plug in. thats more than enough for idle time gaming.
My 512GB Steam Deck will be delivered today. I got a Romoss 40,000 mAh PD 65 watt power bank from Amazon a week ago. Mainly for charging my Steam Deck at work.
Dude, just carry the charger with you, it probably takes less space and it is lighter than whatever behemoth of an external battery you carry with you.
@@StefanConstantinDumitrache I use the charger at work. Where I sit in the breakroom there are no outlets. Haven't had to use the charger yet on my Steam Deck.
@@slliks67 what... are u saying £350 for a pretty good tear portable gaming practical gaming pc, is alot. In my experience, its amazing to play outside or just lying down in bed too lazy to get up, its confortable, easy, and fun :)
For real. I look at the time to beat hrs before starting g a game....40hrs...yeah that's going to take a couple months. I usually have a game going on Switch and another on either xbox or PC...so it could take even longer. I love shorter platformers more now.
I’m a dad gamer and I don’t understand these numbers lol I play for hours and still work 40 hour weeks and have two kids. Why don’t I see more dads with time like this
@@2TrainWakefield It's called priorities first leisure last, sounds like you're ignoring the woman or not doing anything around the house, that or you give up sleep just you can play video games
@@Youraveragegamer_97 Dude I literally said I work 40 plus hours. I have a 2 year old and a 9 year old. I’m very active in their lives and my wife actually put my gaming table together for me lol she plays Xbox and I play PS5
It's only a problem with those kinds of hefty, demanding, power hungry games. Honestly it's impressive those games run at all. When I'm playing a lot of my older and/or less demanding games I get about 6 hours of battery life.
"It's actually impressive you can run a modern game for 2 minutes before power runs out! Ancient times people didnt get this!" Yes they just got working things instead 😅
@cartergabriel5949 About 1.5 hours in a worst case scenario, but I understand how hyperbole works. Honestly I do avoid the big power-hungry games on my Deck. While they do run, it's just not an ideal situation on a 15 watt, battery powered handheld. I'm mainly using mine to burn through my backlog. I have a desktop for the newer, bigger releases.
So truee sometimes the battery gives a false reading depending on the scene in the game so you are like hmm 2 hours? Only for it to become 59 minutes once you get in more demanding spots of the game.
I've found that when playing high end games that put your gpu into 90% utilization or more, it typically consumes about 1% per minute, so it averages to slightly over an hour and a half of battery
it's not a false reading if suddenly the CPU needs to draw more power lmao every notebook does the same, they give you an estimate based on the usage, if the usage changes, so does the battery life estimate
@@thunderarch5951 we all understood what he meant and he isn’t wrong. This is not marketed as a laptop but is supposed to compete with other handhelds.
@@raskolnikov6443 And? It's a PC in a handheld package, it will behave just like any other computer; a increase in workload will consume more battery. It boggles my mind that people would think otherwise.
As someone who doesn't like most AAA games, not even an issue lol though yeah even if I take it out, once I start playing I just sit and forget my surroundings
I’ve yet to play any AAA games from my steam library on my Deck. Emulating everything from NES to PS3 and Switch is just too fun. The power tools plugin is very helpful to get more juice out of your battery though
@@morganfreeman710 depends on the title. Out of all of those, Luigi’s mansion was the only one that required down-clocking the GPU and adding a 120fps mod to get it to run at a smooth 30fps. All in all, I’m very impressed and satisfied with my experience
@@morganfreeman710 it’s not at all though. I play the newest JoJo fighting game and it runs perfect. BOTW runs at 30fps and PLA also runs perfectly. Mario kart 8 is also an amazing pickup if you havnt played it yet. Steam deck runs switch games better than the switch does lol that thing couldn’t even handle kingdom hearts. Had to use cloud gaming.
@@TheGingerlie my boy did you not read the precious comments. You just wasted time. And they can run it natively I'm 100% sure because my switch can run doom and no man's sky perfectly. Along with plenty of other games that are way more demanding than kingdom hearts. That's just developers being lazy and that's why I refuse to buy kingdom hearts on switch, even though it's one of my favorite game series. But hey how about trying to shit on something you just sit back and enjoy your game. Fucking hater lol
Gaming outside is my new thing,I take my dog out on the local trial by my house that no one uses and just let her play while I sit out by the river on the rocks. It's my new peaceful place......
The battery life is still good for traveling, I keep a pretty good sized power bank in a small compartment in my back back and let it charge the steam deck while I’m walking. When I get to gate for my next flight, it’s already fully charged, it’s very efficient
POV: A wall outlet is a thing (If your at home) This would be useful if you were in a place where there’s no outlets nearby but, come you brung a whole another accessory to charge your steam deck
As someone who currently has the original switch model (one with bad battery life) as long as it's at least the same as that I should be fine because I'm already used to that kind of battery life.
@@therunawaykid6523 well I have a steam deck now and the battery life has been fine. Nothing too great but not anything that interrupts my gameplay too much. Although I mostly play indie/lightweight games so it's not being pushed too hard.
Just got mine today. And if this is referring to the hella short battery life….. i 1000% agree. That and i just wish the thumb sticks were placed a lil lower for smaller hand people. Its not horrible but i do have to hold it weird for games that heavily use both sticks (like skateboarding games/ shooters/ so on) it was bigger than i thought lol. And how hot and fast it gets hot. But none of this make me regret getting this. I sill am 128582% happy i did. And if u are away or anything alot or just want one. GET IT. Or at least reserve one Cause i reserved mine back in February 2022 and JUST GOT MINE TODAY September 14 2022 . Sooo even if you’re not sure, you’ll have more than enuff time to change your mind lol. Also (if any one remembers these) am i the only one who thinks it kinda looks like a newer/sleeker Sega: Game Gear 😂👌🏾 and i love that bout it. The nostalgia is setting with this one fo sho sho
Damn bro I literally ordered the 512 a DAY after you. Feb 23, 2022. Got the deck today in the mail haha!!!! Totally happy with it so far and I’ve only touched it for a few minutes
Since you're playing at home, seated on the sofa, just plug the steamdeck to an AC outlet, or even better, plug your steam deck to a TV and play with a controller.
For people saying that's not a problem you can just plug it in at home, it should be a problem. If enough customers object to it the money for research and development goes to that in the next iteration of the console. It's supposed to be a mobile gaming device. If you are ok with keeping it plugged most of the time why not just build a PC instead
Just divide the energy capacity of your power station in Watt Hours (In your power station it's probably a lithium ion battery, 3.7 nominal voltage times 81.6 Ah) to steam deck battery capacity of 40Wh (according to google). It would be around 7.5 times. Factor out the energy losses due to heat loss. You'd get around 7 times of charge.
Honestly, lowering fps and maybe some graphic settings will boost battery life substantially. I usually play games based on how long I have before I can get to a charger. It usually takes me about 4hrs typically for each sesh but I usually don’t even get that time
Nah bro, batteries peaked already. Unless they find a way to make nuclear power safe for everyone and portable or a way to transfer energy efficiently wirelessly there won't be major breakthroughs
@@JavierSegura 100% correct. The only thing possible for the next iteration of the deck is a bigger battery but bigger = heavier and it's already heavy.
I ended up selling mine because moonlight pc streaming and Xbox remote play to my phone with a Razer Kishi V1 straight up gave me better performance and of course Waaaaay longer play times but I have a 13Pro Max so that’s probably why.
@@bikelifepov9617 I’ve had times where I thought I might’ve made the wrong decision, but I realized I almost never walked out of my house with the thing making the potable nature only useful while I was in my own house.
@@skateecho I Like it very much! I just finished playing "Pokémon Gold" (first version from 1999) on it 2 weeks ago and I Loved it! I also played "Prince of Persia", "Super Mario Bros" 1 and 3 and "Yoshi's Island" so far. With EmuDeck everythin is so ez, even if you never used an emulator before and even if you don't know anything about Linux. I can recommend it 100% for GBA and GBC so far. The other platform like PlayStation, Wii, Switch, Gamecube, etc. I didn't test yet. Btw... a NTK fact: It's also pretty nice as a computer and even harder games like DarkSouls 3 are playable for around 2 hours. So for an only emulator device, the small version is enough, but I bought the biggest version, because I already used almost all of the 512GB Space internally and for my emulator stuff I have a 32GB SD card. Also I very much like the matt screen finish on the biggest version ^^ If you like, you can mod some Games to a 16:9 ratio, but I use original aspect ratio with black bars. It looks the best that way imo and with that settings there is no danger of burning static images into the screen (But even playing Games with a static hud with max brightness didn't burn anything in my screen so far ^^) So I rly can recommend it in any way! PS: D-Brand's "Project Killswitch"-Case is expensive, but very nice. I had to pay a bit more than the usual price (shipping from New-York to Germany), but it's worth it imo ^^
@@CryT4xGBA? Lol you can run that on a phone. I wish I had one to emulate NDS because the single screen on my phone makes it complicated. Plus I've emulated the crap out of the GBA over the last 20 years on basically any device I ever had lol
I feel like the people who get the Steam deck are either Entering into the pc space for the first time Taking their steam library on the go, or to their sofa. Or those with not very much gaming time, so it’s convenient to whip out the Steam Deck to get a good 30 mins in.
Combine the last two and you get me. A dad who takes his steam library to the couch cause his son is on the pc, and doesn't have that much time to play before its time to start making dinner anyway.
I only unplug it to not overcharge it cause I'm afraid to damage the battery. That and, alongside the fact, that I only play at home. Haven't taken out my Deck in public yet
The stupid console people don't get that when they buy a steam deck that it is a PC you do have to plug it up and keep it charged these idiots think laptops last all day or something I don't know but they need to stick with consoles if they can't plug it up it's that simple
Your just dead wrong. The switch and especially the oled switch gets a good 4 or 5 even 6 hour battery life. Tweaks like brightness and not using joycons that charge off the tablet also boost the battery life ( split pad pro )
@@gravejames7221 I think he is talking about high fidelity AAA games. Of course less demanding games will make the batteries last longer. Doom Eternal will still drain the switch's batteries in about 2 to 3h. That's his point.
I don't really get it. There are so many settings to gain battery life. So what's the main problem with the steam deck?! Everyone knows that the battery is running after 2-3 hours out.
@@midasgamespace it depends if it smaller games like indies than you can definitely get around 7 hours worth. More demanding games I only get about an hour and a half, and older triple a games from like 2010 and such gives me about 4 hours of battery life. Still doesn’t mean I don’t carry a battery bank with me.
@@bedrockanarchyrealm2762 I’ve definitely noticed better battery life on less demanding games like Mad Max as opposed to Spider-Man Remastered. Turning down screen brightness and using lower game graphics has also helped. Honestly, I’m loving the deck regardless of the battery life. I keep my power bank close by already since i use it with other devices.
Bro, just use an outlet. If you are getting a power bank just so you can be in different areas of your home, then you probably are addicted to video games or something. Lol its just 2 hours away from your outlet.
When did I mention ‘in my home’ Power banks are for mobility so I can play anywhere. I’m not addicted to games either. I get maybe 1-3 hours of game time every week hence why I have a handheld so I can play in the go
The steam deck has some options you can use to tweak the hardware and reduce power consumption. I’d recommend limiting the framerate to 30 or 15, and reducing the tdp. If you wanna get a little extreme you can also underclock your gpu
Unless the Deck has passthrough, you really shouldn't be playing while you're charging unless you want your decks battery capacity to shorten even quicker
its actually pretty safe and valve recommends it. The deck stops charging itself after awhile to prevent battery damage. Macs do this as well and so do a lot of electronics nowadays.
