The fact the included Polamalu and the youngest among those old school Steeler speaks to how great and impactful he was. He was a complete wildcard on the field that hit way more than missed.
True. Anyone who watched football back then knew how good Polamalu was. Funny how he was such a beast on the field but off the field he’s so soft spoken.
I despise the Squealers with a special hatred, but Troy was probably the purest soul mixed w/ skill and easily most worthy of anyone's respect - whether it be ally or enemy alike.
Polamalu was bananas. He and ed reed amongst others definitely made the afc north a gaunlet for many years. Those steelers ravens games were brutal in the early 2010s
@@stephenkolozsi6942hahaha “when I’m done with you you’re going to be talking out of your butt and farting out your mouth” “Is that physically possible?”
Ed O'Neil was like a father for me. My favorite movie as a kid was 'dutch' my favorite TV show was 'married with children'. Go Polk High! Beat Chester A Arthur!
Jack Lambert used to hold a youth camp in Alliance Ohio. 10 min from where I grew up. One year I'm the late 90s he gathered all the kids and parents together. He told them the camp was canceled and everyone would get a refund. He was fed up with the parents complaining about how he was talking to the kids.
He didn’t know if Julian played against Troy. I think you could give him benefit of the doubt he is just older and didn’t know the names. Troy’s Steelers isn’t Steelers he grew up on and would remember all the names.
Jack Lambert, that guy is what a football player is supposed to be. If could pick one man to represent football that man would be Lambert. I grew up a Dallas fan lol.
How in the goat fucking hell did Mike Webster not make this conversation? None of it takes place without him. He was the greatest center to have ever played football
Still so many great players Big ben,AB,Jack Ham,Dermonti Dawson,Mel blount,Rod woodson,Ryan Clark,Alan Faneca,Hines,Lynn Swan,Mike webster,David Dacastro and Franco 🕊️ just off the top of my head
As a Packers fan, I completely agree. When I think Steelers, I think: Mean Joe Greene Troy Polamalu Rod Woodson Jack Lambert Hines Ward Franco Harris Terry Bradshaw Big Ben Mike Webster And that is still leaving out so many great players I grew up watching in the 2000s, like Maurice Pouncey and James Harrison, like a long guys from before my time.
I don’t know how Troy isn’t everyone’s favorite…. Dude did things regularly that wasn’t regular…. So many times I can just remember not believing what my eyes just saw…. Jumping both offense and defense lines AT the count of the snap to tackle the QB before he even takes a step back….. That’s not suppose to be real 😂😂
My favorite player of all time was Troy. I watched him growing up and it was sad when he retired, that was the last time I actually watched football for the joy of watching a player
I like that he included a guy from the losing years (Russell) and a modern era guy and not just all 70s dudes. Which, given how dominant that era was (unmentioned were swann, stallworth, Webster, ham, Harris, Blount…) you could easily argue all of the Steelers Mount Rushmore could come from just guys who played on that dynasty.
Ed O'Neil......named my exact Rushmore 5.......I get why he picked Andy Russell.....he was never Speedy......but even at Nolls beginning he could direct the Terrible Defense, CORRECTLY....and Noll knew he needed a whole new Cast of Defensive Players.....the Original 5 year Rebuild Plan in the NFL
jack lambert proved that technique is what makes a great hitter and tackler for a linebacker. you don’t have to be 270 lbs of muscle you just have to know positioning and have enough weight to be able to hold guys up
I don’t even know football that well, and probably knew even less back then, but Polamalu always stood out in my mind as a ridiculously influential player whenever I saw him
I love the quote from Terry Bradshaw in the begging of his career when they were not good he looked at one of the defensive guys who was running his mouth about how bad Bradshaw was... "You can lose with me, but you sure as hell can't win without me!"
I’d for sure put those two lbs above any Steelers qb in a Mount Rushmore for the Steelers. Their line of lbs is insane and I think Payton will continue that legacy
Mean Joe green has an entire exhibit dedicated to him In his home town of temple Texas in their historical museum. To this day… my dad watches him and told me ya “he’s the reallll deal” in only a way a dad could
Lambert went to the HS I graduated from. All of the older people who knew him have told me he just lived and breathed football. He never went anywhere without one like Ricky from Boyz n Tha hood
I've always kind of thought him and Ed Reed as two sides of the same coin. Ed with the amazing center field instincts, and Troy with the in the box downhill instincts.
Franco, Swann, Stallworth...so many greats. James "I ran 98 yesterday & almost died Harrison", Kevin Greene, Hines Ward, The Bus, Big Ben, AB, (minus character issues), Bill Cowher coaxhes my all time team. Steelers are maybe the consistently most talented across the decades
Love Ed O'Neill but he's been playing this 2 week walk on tryout with the Steelers card for 50 years now. Was Bradshaw, LC Greenwood and Mean Joe even there that year
Goddamn it! As a Northeast Ohio native and current Youngstown resident, this whole thing tears my heart apart knowing that Youngstown’s own rooted for those gross Squeelers over The Brownies! Say it ain’t so Ed!!!!! 😢
Putting a mount Rushmore for The Steelers is hard, imagine leaving out Jack Ham, Mel Blount, Jerome Bettis, Lyn Swann, John Stallworth, Rod Woodson or Franco Harris? Any ot those guys will be on the mount Rushmore for at least 3/4 of all NFL franchises
