The Stentorian Ram has certainly had a lot of interest, and that's mainly because they look quite pretty and at around the 50 - 70 notes kind of range, it's more affordable than a lot on the market

Thanks for being the ONLY reviewer to perfectly describe the "jankiness" of the guts. Regardless of price point junk is junk. Like my mechanic loves to say "It wont break today but it is gonna break".

A good, honest review as always Dean. Personally I'd say that if someone's wanting to take their first steps into squonking then the Pico Squeeze is still the best (and cheaper) option, albeit not as pretty and not fully mech either. But for not a lot more money at all you can get a UK made "proper" mech squonker from somewhere like Rockmodz. For things like customer service alone, never mind the jump in quality, I reckon it'd be worth the extra wonga.

The button becomes much easier to press after about a week of regular use. The locking feature also gets easier to use with time. The unit I got has no issues with the 510 being wobbly or the button making full contact with the 510. That said, it does not hit anywhere near as hard as I would like (on either a 0.45 or 0.3 ohm build with a VTC5A), and I suspect it's got something to do with the wire and solder acting as a choke point for the current. However, this mod completely converted me to unregulated squonking and I pretty much immediately upgraded to a TLF#. Not bad for entry level users like me, but will probably leave you wanting more.

Thanks for the review Dean. I was looking at picking one of these up, but had concerns about the button etc. Thanks for the confirmation. The extra bottles without a proper lid are also silly & pointless. I think I'll wait for the Pulse, as looks like a much better option at this price point.

Top Review Dean! I've got one of these and still love it regardless of its faults but I do think it's overpriced. Especially considering the New Resin 'Drip-X' mech squonker by Aleader is on pre order for £25 at ecigone.co.uk right now, is fully mechanical, looks great, is contoured to the hand (angled/rounded off around the edges) and has a funky button below the firing switch that you can push to exert pressure on the squonk bottle at the same time as, or instead of, using the squonk window to squeeze the bottle. Tbh, I'm just really chuffed to see that the Squonking floodgates have now well and truely opened up to flood into the mainstream. This is just the start and it puts a massive smile on my face! Roll on the V'Vape Pulse squonker (which can use a 20700 or 18650) and the Geekvape Athena Squonk mod & kit! With the Steel vape phoenix, the Komge Keel, Ginger Vapers Boxer 18650 & 20700/21700.already releasd so far this year amongst countless others Inc 3D printed, regulated mods, and high end wooden &/or brass squonkers too... THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE YEAR OF SQUONK!

What's up buddy!? I will say that they seem inconsistent with the switch on these... Ones in other reviews seem to make a much better contact than the one you got. Appreciate the honesty as always...I was lucky enough to win one from vapnfagan! So hopefully my button is better! Lol nice review man

Dean usually I agree with your assessments of mods, but in then case I'm not with you. As far as the wire soldering, I own two other squonkers that have a similar setup. Usually this is used b/c the design of the mod makes it impossible to put in a full length battery contact and the solder is usually attached to the 510 as well. For the price point of the squonker, I personally don't see anything wrong with it. I have over 20 squonkers, and usually there is are some tweaks that you make. I constantly see reviewers praising overpriced plastic boxes that cost 180 and up. This is an entry level squonker. More importantly this is the mod that will bring squonking to the mainstream, which in turn will produce higher quality squonkers at a fair price. Thank you for your review as always

Thanks for the feedback Kim, and it's great that you're loving yours :) I would strongly disagree that this is the mod that brings squonking to the Mainstream, we've already had that, and for the proper entry level affairs now hitting the market that are even cheaper, this hasn't influenced squonking's development to the masses IMO.

They started it though. Wotofo a mainstream company manufacturing squonk mechs? Now vandy vape aleader and geekvape are following suit and are now releasing bf mechs. I heard smoant is about to as well. Mech squonking is being pulled out of the high end market and into the world and MTL is next

What about Kanger and Eleaf? A year ago or more the Pico Squeeze (still popular) and the unregulated Dripbox were incredibly popular are they not mainstream and affordable?

They had boards protections LEDs and proprietary bottles. For me that's not getting into "proper squonking". The RAM and all the other mechs that are coming out like the drip x or the pulse, athena etc do that, they will throw someone into the proper squonk rabbithole: looking into all kinds of bottles supersoft etc and tube diameters, different 510's FDV MM MD worrying about materials and their conductivity bla bla. The ram or all the other Chinese crap may not be flawless but imo are a better entry point than the "semi-regulated" pico or the shitty boxer frankie icarus clones that have flooded the market for those wanting cheap true mechs . No noob is going to front 200quid for a 3dprinted boutique mod so a decently priced half-arsed authentic mech (not necessarily the ram of course) that does the job is the best option for a new person imho. Just my 2cents and I apologize for the brick of text Dean. much love

Beautiful on the outside, rotten on the inside? A slight exaggeration I'm sure but I think I'll pass considering the market is just now seeing a flood of budget squonkers hitting the shelves. Very honest review and thanks.

Got my Ram this week, love it! However I will be doing the modification to it. I was expecting it to hit a little harder than it does, I feel that some of the current is being robbed by the solder joints and wire.

What 'Id really like to see are companies start producing dual or triple batteries regulated squonk mods... any chance of it happening, as far as you know? I know about the drone, and I have one, but, to my knowledge, it's been discontinued... As far as the review is concerned, it's been impeccable as always :) You rock man!

Hi Dean, that mechanical mod can have the battery placement both ways. It works no matter you place the battery positive up or down. Regarding to the button, I saw other reviews (Mike Vapes, for example) complaining about it. But then he showed that after using for a while it's working much better. I agree with you about the 510 connection. It should be better. The bottles also. But you can buy a silicone ones that fit there perfectly. Great review as always. Take care.

Dean, from what I know, if you try to dismantle the mod, you're going to ruin it. I think that the battery contacts are press fitted. But show us the result anyway. I love the reviews that you make about mechanical mods. Cheers.

The mechanical switch makes it mechanical. Current doesn't care if it runs through a plate or a wire. It's definitely not a lil tiny wire you'd find on unregulated Chinese mods from 5 years ago.

Greg is right. Just call it a mechanical it causes confusion with newbies someone might think it's safer. I've seen soldered battery contacts on mech squonkers without wires are those non-mechs as well?

On the original, bridging the switch to the RDA didn't autofire - it gave you a dead short across the battery!

It is a mechanical mod, it has a mechanical switch, and it's fantastic for the price. Love mine. I have a genuine boxer and this is better value.

It has solder points that can be failure points and potentially 'dry joints', 'full mech' doesn't have that as a consideration

21700/20700 compatible and £40 or so. Might venture into the world of sqonk if the bottle isn't made of concrete or something daft - seems a very low price.

As a vaper of bottom feeders for a long time I am bemused as to why this is not classed as a MECHANICAL mod. Just because it's basically a wire rather than plate makes no difference at all. I sense some good old elitism creeping in!

It is a FULL MEch...theres no Mosfet...whether theres is wire or not doesnt change that its a mech.

The solder points will always be a weakness, as well as potential drain due to a dry joint etc, it isn't a factor in a classic mechanical device.

Another squonker that's put me off as the ones like this all seem cheaply made and not safe and for the money don't seem value or very good the cons out weigh the pros

Best cash for result I've had with mech squonks was a simple project Cheap mech resin Squonker via China £20 Silver strip £15 Modmaker 510 + mm bottle kit -£10ish Popped the cheap things contacts and 510 out, replaced with a simple silver strip (about 100mm@0.6) with a dent in one end, drilled a hole in the remainder of the silver ( about 30mm strip) and popped it all back in Overall leaves a top quality squonk for about the same price as the Ram, but essentially no voltage drop and the entire thing could have used copper for pennies instead of pounds, and requires very little skills (measure and bend, plus loose and tighten a nut) or tools ( could be done without the drill and using good wire snips and sandpaper)

Why do chinese companys gold plate everything when they could use copper or silver and sell more products it's pointless, vandy vape are smart and will dominate the sales with there new squonk cus it's copper
