I was inspired to write this song while reading a book written by Rachel Louise Snyder titled "No Visible Bruises: What We Don't Know About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us".
The quote displayed at the end of this video is taken from this book. It references a story of Interpersonal Violence the author discusses in detail in the book. The content of the book and the story of the woman who died at the hands of her abuser moved me to write this song.
Also, the pictured statue is "The Abduction of Proserpina" created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The story of Proserpina was a secondary inspiration for this song.

Nostalgia smothered by clandestine And boisterous violence; Coercive control a non-display For the law's piousness. A cottage built in the hush of the garden, Where unseen crimes lay waste to the roots. Where every scream from inflorescence Is a private matter for the stone alone.
