Richard Durand is a Dutch DJ and producer who’s active in the music scene for many years already. He’s mostly known for his trance productions and remixes and of course for his incredible DJ sets.
For this week’s vlog I sat down with Richard, to ask him about the story behind one of his most succesful vocal releases so far; “Always The Sun”, a track from the year 2009 for which he worked together with singer / songwriter Simon Binkenborn.

What is your favorite production / remix from Richard Durand?

That's actually a hard question because he's got some bangin' tunes under his belt. I think the first tracks I heard of him under his Richard Durand alias where 'Into Something' and 'The Cube' after he played them on City Moves in Alkmaar 2009(?). Good times :)

Always The Sun which in my country Poland was a very big hit on the radio and Polish VIVA, Make Me Scream, Sunhump, Run To You, Predator Vs Cha Cha, Into Something, Tigers Apology, Children(As Out Now), No Comment(Hard Base Mix)(As G-Spott)-Another club smasher in Poland and his remixes of Tiesto-Lethal Industry, Flight 643, Break My Fall, Binary Finary-1998, Way Out West-The Fall, Fragma-Tocas Miracle, Armin Van Buuren-In & Out Of Love, The Prodigy-Smack My Bitch Up, Art Of Trance-Madagascar. How about the story behind G-Spott-No Comment?

Richard Durand is my top 5 producent since 2009. I remember track very well. Original mix is the Best for me! Beautiful!

The years go so fast! I remember getting a SO from richard on dance radio (holland centraal) i played before him! Such a nice guy he is.

Thank you, Twan, for another good interview! Thanks to Richard as well for mentioning of the new collab with Christina Novelli whom I just adore as one of the best female voices of the nowadays vocal trance scene! Hopefully she is presented on your artists wish-list for the future interviews despite current situation with covid and your possibility to go abroad what you said so many times before, but I believe it'll happen one day. 😉 Well, can't wait to hear Richard's new album at the end of January and again, Twan, thanks for providing interesting stuff on your channel for which I also wish more subscribers, more views and more comments in the future!

I think Richard got confused that his first vocal track, it was Slipping Away because I remember another song from him from 2002 when he performed under the nickname G-Spott and the song G-Licious which I love to this day was also with vocals.

Most of the G-Spott tracks had vocals, I’m pretty sure he was talking about his Richard Durand project 😉

Thank you Twan and Richard! My mate and I saw Richard back in 2007 in Sydney, Australia. Such a good set! I believe he was the last dj to finish at 6am. Took photo with us aftewards and gave us his promo cd too!

Thank you! And I already asked him for an interview a while ago, but unfortunately he said no…. BTW, I only do interviews about originals, not about remixes etc. I always focus on the stories behind those tracks. More to come soon I hope!

I really really wanna recommend the 2022 Rework version of the track, which is the Intro of Richards set here, it’s amazing as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i_-NV6neo6Q.html This is one of those songs that is perfect because of its symbiosis of melody and lyrics. I loved it from the very first time.

If we could post photo's I'd show you my collection of Zzap-recordings vinyl. I pretty much have all of them. And also got other G-Spott and Durand productions. One of the very few I'm missing is G-Project - G1/G2. As for the question, favorite Richard Durand... Hmmm difficult... maybe Weep, or Slipping Away, or Submerge, or Inside My Brain, or Ledged Up...
