The story behind the Boston Tea Party - Ben Labaree

Discover what led American colonists in 1773 to toss tea into the Boston Harbor in what became known as the Boston Tea Party.
--
Before the Revolutionary War, American colonists were taxed heavily for importing tea from Britain. The colonists, not fans of "taxation without representation", reacted by dumping tea into the Boston Harbor, a night now known as the Boston Tea Party. Ben Labaree gets into the nitty-gritty of that famous revolutionary act.

They showed the Boston Tea Party as loud and full of people surrounding the harbor watching the 50 "Native Americans" throwing the tea over. The event was actually pretty quiet and relaxed. The 50 men silently went down to the harbor, went to the ships, took any crew prisoner that were there, cut the lock off to the ships cargo hold, threw the tea overboard, replaced the lock, set the crew free, and moved out into the night. It was peaceful, quiet, and stealthy. I bet Boston's water supply tasted like tea for the whole Revolution.

The British gave every possible concession to the colonists removing tax on everything except British Tea. In Britian taxes kept increasing. Brick tax, chimney tax, halvf tax, window tax. It was how terraced housing came in to being so people could share a wall of bricks and chimnies and divide the costs betweem them..

I admire how the french have national strikes and don’t put up with BS from their government! Its this attitude that gave rise to the united states independence and today their worship of freedom! The real lesson is you can't turn a harbour into a giant tea just by throwing boxes of tea at it. You would need a lot of tea.

People seriously trying to compare the riots of Michigan to the Boston Tea Party?
@acscissors1705
@acscissors1705 4 года назад
why not?
@UltraAnimaniac101
@UltraAnimaniac101 4 года назад
@@acscissors1705 Because the Michigan Riots are destroying property of people who are uninvolved with the matter that got them upset while the Bostan Tea Party kept their message cleary by ONLY throwing tea overboard.

@@UltraAnimaniac101 I see people love to leave out the event such as the Sons of Liberty and Boston Mob tar and feathering people and property you should reread your history of events leading up to the tea party.

@@UltraAnimaniac101 And the Boston Tea Party went after a company that was part of the reason for the unpopular tea tax. Btw, you're thinking of Minnesota. The incident wasn't in Michigan.

@@UltraAnimaniac101 If you know history, you would know that the tea at the port was also mostly bought by other innocent people. To revenge against the unfairness and brutality from Boston Massacre, they did damage properties that were not of the nation of Britain. Though, I do believe that violence is not the solution.

No, it was not just competition. The main goal (that they tried to conceal, but failed) was to rid of the illegal smuggling, in the process eliminating all other competition, which is "monopoly". Nearly every colonist was upset about this because they were being oppressed by that, and they did not want to pay taxes for the tea because they were not properly represented (I think there was only one representative in Parliament and he didn't have much power; it was just to get the colonists happy).

About 50 men, some apparently dressed as Native Americans, marched down to Griffin's Wharf and threw 340 tea chests overboard
