I think its more to do with the fact hes just at peace with who and what he currently is. He said in a current interview hes not in Memphis to babysit, but hes fully aware of what his purpose in Memphis is. Quite refreshing actually.

Rip Hamilton said it best. When he was healthy, NOBODY wanted no smoke with D Rose. One of the meanest players we've ever seen step on the court, and a true warrior and role model outside of it. Just the sheer strength he has shown throughout his career fighting grueling injuries and proving so many times he can still ball with the best of them, changing his style to be able to stay in the league for so long, it's crazy. The confidence was there since he came in the league and has never faded away. There's no one like D Rose.

I’ll never forget being a Drose fan back then. It was so sad seeing your idol as a kid be hurt so much and go through so much pain. Crazy enough Looking back it probably actually deterred me from wanting to play basketball as much. Growing up i loved playing basketball but Because of watching Drose and all his injuries as soon as i got a little ankle sprain or knee pain i instantly thought i would end up like him too. Now obviously i dont think i would have been good enough to go D-1 or anything but i stopped playing because of nagging injuries. All because i thought once u get hurt enough you’re cooked and i saw Drose go through it so i decided not to put my body through more pain. Crazy
