I'm am from Brooklyn. I am not surprised that the Dutch created it (the name speaks for itself), and I am not surprised that it became popular in New York City first (which the Dutch founded), because Double Dutch were played everywhere all over New York growing up.

I'm relatively surprised, though, being that "Double Dutch" was an alleged private/secret language/lingo/tongue used by Our slave ancestors. 🤔

Double Dutch was a huge part of my life back in CA as a mixed race Native kid. My Black friends and Hispanic friends all played with me in the 1970's this game! It was wonderful because it helps with co-ordination and athletic skiils! Isn't it wonderful how they are bringing it back in style?! You go girls!

I attend a Haitian Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Currently, after the service, I bring soccer and foot balls and the kids and I all have a blast playing. However, many of the girls don’t participate and do their own thing. I just ordered two 14’ jump ropes, and will be bringing them this weekend to show all the girls. I’m betting they’re going to absolutely love it!

They sang one of the songs my friends and I would sing when we would do double dutch in Seattle in the 80s. Crazy how the songs travel so far. I really miss it. I can still remember how it felt to rock back and forth to find your rhythm and the right time to ǰump in.

I learned this sport by watching the Disney movie "Jump In" with Corbin Bleu. Recently a double dutch video from a japanese youtuber named イワネスインセイン appeared in my recommendations. It looked so fun and it really made me want to buy a jump rope so I bought one.

Historically, 'Dutch' could also mean German (i.e. Deutsch). That's why the Pennsylvina Dutch are actually of German origin.

Not sure about that part but as a 70s kid from The Netherlands we (well, not me, never had the agility) played it and it was much older than that. I can assure you being kids we had no idea that it was popular elsewhere. To us it was so normal we didn't have a specific name for it. We called it skipping rope, whether it was single jumper with one rope or double dutch style.

oh, so this was stolen from the Dutch people (no one in the video gave credit to the Dutch people) , I think this is appropriation according to the woke ideology.
