Wammy Games I think it’s also based on how powerful her opponent is. Tyrian is pretty insane and powerful so it might be easy for him to tell the difference.
It really does seem like Emerald and Mercury care for each other. I'd hate to see Emerald switch sides and Mercury not. They're both tragic and had garbage lives.
My personal theory is that they'll both switch sides, Emerald for moral reasons, and Mercury out of self-interest but will overtime change into a better person. At least I hope that's what'll happen.
@Books and Tv Geek probably, I think that would be nice character development too. Going from someone who doesn’t seem to care about anyone but himself to someone who cares for others.
I really like how after Cinder's "death" Hazel kinda looks after the two of them. Considering Hazel blames Oz for his sister's death I think he doesn't like the idea of kids being wrapped up in this by themselves (and Cinder by extension for bringing them into this in the first place).
And then he really cared for trying to get Emerald out in volume 8. Even when we weren’t shown any scenes of Emerald talking to him beforehand about considering it. He just straight up did it out of his heart
Wow, Mercury is a true tragic villain. His father was a monster for doing terrible things to him. No wonder he acts this way or why he killed his own father.
@@jamesrobson8308 He cut them off and gave him prosthetics cause they'd be more durable and easily repaired. But yeah, he cut them off AFTER breaking them.
Wtf? His a son of an assasin, semblance got stolen by his dad, was abused by his father, got his legs chopped off and was replace with robotic legs and people say his his bland and lame? Emerald is more bland since she is just a street thief who creates illusions
@@yifengtoh7529Honestly, despite being an even more ruthless and even eviler villain in comparison, at least he's more interesting, better written and surprisingly far less hypocritical and immature then Emerald! Like SERIOUSLY Emerald is just terrible even when she switches sides! Seriously, they chose to ally with this little B*#@£ over Ironwood?! Now we see why they fail!
Cinder changes her outfits a lot, but it makes so much sense thinking back who her fairytale counterpart is. Cinder dresses herself up so no one recognizes her, just like Cinderella when she attends the ball. This is so clever
Just looking back i realize just how much cinder (pun not intended) has fallen. She’s gone from an imposing force who kept a level head to a blood crazed monster hellbent on revenge and personal satisfaction whose blinded by inadequacy and rage barely hanging on by a thread.
Indeed. Cinder started as a very interesting and intimidating villain. But, once Monty left us and Salem moved into the picture, Cinder basically got demoted. We have Salem to be the wise and calculating villain who's always looking to the future and keeping a step or two ahead. But we can't have two of them. So Cinder gets turned into a muscle head who thinks power is all that matters and everything else is secondary. So that she can then relearn the lessons she had deleted from her brain starting in season four so they can act like its character growth.
That last scene is pretty interesting considering Mercury told her the truth and pulled his punches. Would've been nice if instead of Tyrian showing up, they show how they'd de-escalate the situation themselves.
In my opinion, they needed to make Tyrian appear in order to make us realize that Mercury is not an asshole. If it wasn’t go Tyrian showing up and saying: “All you know is pain and violence and now you are too afraid to leave it” most of the fans would have just hated him for screaming at Emerelad during a moment of vulnerability
@@federicomalcotti9060 Was anyone really mad at him for that though? Because if anything he was speaking straight facts, and Emerald's the one who started the fight
@@darknessknows1235 sometimes, telling the truth in the wrong way is worst than telling a lie. When you speak facts in a way that hurts the other person, you inevitably push them away from the truth, because they will naturaly run away from it since it brings pain. But Mercury DOESN'T KNOW another way to interact with other people. So yeah, Tyrian kinda saved their friendship in that scene.
@@federicomalcotti9060 old comment but I disagree. I think it would’ve been great to watch them fight and come out stronger for it, with a genuine understanding of each other. This is probably one of the only times they have really gotten a chance to just interact with each other on an arguably personal level
As someone who has siblings, I doubt it; sure they weren't gonna have a real fight but they were certainly in for a nasty quarrel. In a way, Tyrian threatening them gave them the common ground they needed to save them or a couple of days worth awkward brother/sister anger.
@@gabe3885 Neo doesn't really look like she could improve as a person, since she's pretty much a sadistic jerk. She'll probably try to fuck off from Salem's insanity train but I don't see her becoming good.
Emerald is honestly my favorite character...because she’s not a villain out of NECESSITY, so much as she feels she owes Cinder...and she’s just a badass
If emerald changes sides, Mercury should too as well the only fond moments that didn’t involve murder or pain was his time with emerald and that can be a good callback to Tyrian telling Mercury he’s too afraid to leave the pain and misery. Which would cause him to question whether to stay what he’s known, or go with the friend he’s got. Plus Mercury is probably the only one in Cinder’s group that cares about Emerald.
@@realpeelbanan Do you know how Mercury works harder than everyone else to defeat his assassin father on a mountain where he was brutally trained to kill his bad dad who died fighting for his son to be a killer like him? Well, that’s what exactly happened when they did have the worst family in their lives who never cared about them being good enough for their abusive parents to hurt their kids.
I will say, this channel makes my writing alot easier. Rather than having to skim through 8 volumes every time I can hone in on exactly which character I want.
Yas, and I also belive dat Mercury's destiny iz 2 get his sembalance back and become a ful time asazin No, me no care dat my grammer's bad and me spelling suks
@@theturtleperson1732 Immas on volume 8 and No Cinder isn't the first character to kill someone onscreen. Its Mercury when he kills Tukson in season 2. Also Mercury himself confirmed that he killed his own father, with Cinder and Emerald being witnesses
@@theturtleperson1732 Actually scratch what I just said. It turns out that Cinder was the youngest character with a kill count. It was shown in volume 8 chapter 6 on Saturday, so u were right. Mercury still is the youngest person to kill a person of pro hunter status in a long fight thou. as Cinder just stabbed the hunter who was trying to help her.
13:07 I've watched volume 3 countless times and only now am I realizing that the shop keeper just stares at Mercury after watching him sniff a boot and proceeds to try himself
I have a feeling they’re both going through character arcs. Emerald needs to learn that being faithful to Cinder is wrong, and Mercury needs that he and Emerald are fighting for the wrong side, and their beliefs this whole time we’re just clouded by tragic pasts.
I kinda hope Em goes out and looks for Cinder. The only reason she was doing what she did was because of Cinder. She owes her life to her. She knows what she’s doing is wrong but pushed past those thoughts before because of Cinder but without her she doesn’t see a reason to do it, even if she were to have power.
@I'mStrange you’re definitely right! I want her to go out and look for her because that’d be one of the only reasons that would convince her to leave. But when looking for her I’d want her to realize her relationship with Cinder was not ok and she can find her own happiness.
Cinder mimics Salem a lot here with her dialogue with Emerald. Maybe the intro dialogue is her meeting with Salem and showing the resemblance with her meeting with that of Emeralds.
I haven't really kept up to date on RWBY lately, but if Mercury is still around, the best way to have him be 'redeemed' and become a good guy with Emerald is to have them fight side by side again to a remix of "I'm the One". The remix would have different lyrics that are the polar opposite of what they were before, explaining how much the two have changed and how they're the only ones who can beat Cinder. A finale to the trio.
24:46 whenever Mercury talks all I picture is Yosuke Hanamura because they have the same VA. Two very different characters. It’s so hard to imagine Yosuke saying all these things and being the bad guy.
"The thief and the butcher" oh, you mean the two of you? And I'm guessing "The third crusade" is either a banned book or a codename for what they were up to with the white fang.
1) 8:30 -Torchwick had no reason being that much of a bad bitch. 2) 24:19 -One of the most organic scenes in RWBY. Emerald and Mercury had an extremely transparent conversation that fit their characters and it was beautiful. Out of all the couples that became canon in RWBY, Emerald x Mercury would have been the most interesting to watch. Seeing Emerald break away from Cinder and Mercury develop feelings of attachment to Emerald would've been Awesome. 3) 18:40 -First sign of the loss of Cinder's elegance. I can't believe she said "Then make him." Based on Cinder's past appearances she probably would have said some proverb about crushing weaklings while approaching the bandit slowly.
I feel as though in the future seasons Emerald will joint Cinder because she idolizes her for saving her from her own past however I think she will realize Cinder doesn’t care about her and may join the fight against Salem. And mercury idk lol he’s a snake
You KNOW that when Tyrian says something fairly reasonable, you need to turn around and run the other way. It’s good advice, but coming from him? You know it’s twisted to mean something else.
Are we gonna see mercury, emerald, and hazel in volume 8? Probably not, but I’m hoping for a surprise reveal. Also hazel being the father figure for the two seems to be a good fit
In light of the last episode, I'm thinking you are foreshadowing these two coming to Cinder's side in Altas. You might be right, I'mStrange. Nice piece, by the way. 😎👍
I love how whenever Mercury gets hurt, his VA uses the same pain sounds from when he voiced the male Courier in Fallout: New Vegas Anybody else notice that?
I just thought of a way Mercury could turn good. What if he were to have been told that he could’ve-used/could-use his mercenary skills to fight Grimm instead of killing people. Mercury could’ve probably said: “I could/could’ve, but where’s the fun in that!?” Then he could’ve been told: “The ‘fun’ in that is the fact that you would’ve been using the skills you were taught for what you (probably) weren’t taught to use them for, which in your case was/is fighting Grimm to protect others and becoming a Huntsman, and there could’ve/would’ve been two added bonuses (one of them basically being a little difficulty-tweak). One bonus is that you would’ve had a bit more of a challenge because you’d likely have to be way more mindful of your surroundings (so you don’t hit your teammates or anyone your meant to be protecting) which would (probably) help you be more precise and spatially aware, and the second bonus is the fact that you’d likely be doing everything that your father wouldn’t have wanted to do just to spite him.” (Mind you guys, I can only see a VERY small chance of this working, and I said “a way Mercury *COULD* turn good”, not “a way Mercury *WOULD* turn good”, there’s no 100% guarantee it would work. Though, a way Mercury actually *COULD’VE* been good at all (but no guarantee that he wouldn’t switch sides) is if we were to go back to when Mercury first met Cinder and Emerald, and replace Cinder and Emerald with Yang (because I can kinda see Yang and Mercury getting along pretty well) and Penny (because Penny would probably get her dad to make new legs for Mercury).
You know, there's just something I've been wondering, what the hell is up with Emerald's hair? It looks like a bob cut, but she has these two long strands in the back.
Emerald = neglected, often went hungry, alone Mercury = severely abused, pushed to murder his father Cinder = all of these things combined and amped up I find this interesting...Will these parallels be acknowledged in the series? It feels deliberate. Especially the focus on hunger with Emerald and the killing of the abusive guardian with Mercury. Am I dumb? Yes.
