A very worthwhile account of a unique and precious (but relatively unknown) natural resource that deserves greater viewership. The producers and narrators of this video (some of whom I'm fortunate to know) are commended for this insightful and educational tribute to Jacob's Well

We have a house in the family 80 yards downstream from Jacobs Well. Spent many summers there in the 70’s. Nobody else was ever really there back then. When I was a kid I thought we owned it because it was In the back yard. Good times. How things have changed over the decades.

What happened to the iron grate that covered the entrance to the well? My grandparents and later my father and uncle owned the same home just off the square in Wimberly, Texas beginning in the 1940s. I think grandfather paid about $6000 for the home in the 1940s which was covered with petrified rocks of various shapes and sizes. We went to the ‘Blue Hole’ near the town a few times during the summer months. Once my father took me to Jacob’s Well just to see it. We were the only ones there, and he said it was private property. As I remember, there was an iron bar grate that covered the mouth of the well. It did not impede the flow of water at all… just an iron bar grate. The bars were spaced 5" to 6" apart. He said it was to keep people out because of the danger and death of several divers. Does anyone remember a grate that may have been installed over the mouth of the well?

The giant freshwater prawns are all gone. Once, lobster size prawns populated every crack and crevice of the spring. Why have they disappeared? They were delicious and nobody thought enough to protect their population. They were a beautiful emerald green that turned blue and red when cooked. Tender and succulent is how they are remembered. Gone too soon.

I'm curious............ Why not hire some experienced divers to lay a series of ropes down into the well so that people can pull themselves through it with their arm muscles rather than having to rely on their lung capacity and leg power?

nudist0885 eight experienced divers did go in and make a line. They went in on that line one time and didn't resurface alive. The farthest anyone has gone is where their rope ends and it's cut or ripped.

+Kenny Bachstein I mean that's not really helpful. I know it gets crowded. That's why this season you have to reserve your spot in advance. I meant in terms of the heat. It becomes way hot way fast in Texas and I'm new to the state. I want to know when it would be too late to go because it will be too hot to go and when it's just right.

Great video! Besides the history of this place (someone know if there is an indigenous name (pre-Jacob)?), the showing of the wildlife is important. There is a lot of it, people don't notice it all when they visit. Hint-find a quiet place and just sit for five minutes, ten is even better.
