Shared it with one of Ved Mehta's nieces. My mother was from Pindi and father from Lahore. So were my in-laws one from Pindi and the other from Lahore.
My husband's grandfather was Advocate Meher Chand Sud who practiced in Lahore High Court in 1940 s. He resided in Anarkali Road. Partition was a traumatic event for the entire family, uprooting them from their idyllic existence in the beautiful city which they never forgot. My father in law recounted the details of his early life and schooling in Lahore many times and cherished those memories, expressing a desire to visit his childhood home till his last years.
My ancestors were driven out of one such house on Mall road. We will never forget, how our properties were stole by the followers of Jinnah. No more fake friendships.
@@quadravillage7110and what about theives among followers of the 2002 architect of the gujrat genocide modi amit shah bjp and rss? The followers of your religion who stole?
They didn't steal they were also driven out from different parts of India leaving their properties and homes behind. These were a few luck ones who reached alive.
@@quadravillage7110 they didn't steal. They were compensated for the properties they left behind in India. Similarly, the same happened with those who left their properties in Pakistan for India - I hope so. If it didn't happen then Indian gov is responsible for it. BTW, if you were so concerned about your property in Pakistan then you should not have left it. Please, seeing the things in right perspective is very important before accusing n judging others. Thank you
For centuries they lived and thrived On that land they called their own A place where their ancestors survived And their culture and traditions shone But then came a time of division Of lines drawn on maps and hearts Of hatred and religious derision And the tearing apart of homes and hearths Those who lived there for thousands of years Were suddenly deemed outsiders and foes Their fate decided by rulers and fears And their lives upheaved in one cruel blow They were forced to leave their land behind To cross borders and start anew Leaving everything they knew and defined Their roots, their memories, their truth The reasons for their forced migration Were rooted in politics and strife A struggle for power and domination And the cost of human life But despite the pain and the loss they bore Their resilience and spirit remain Their memories and traditions they still adore And their hope for a better future sustain For they know that home is not just a place But a feeling that lives in the heart And their love and connection can never be erased By borders or lines drawn apart.
My grandmother was from lahore Born , brought up, studied, married All in Lahore Post partition days were sheer trauma Till her death, she would remember her 3 storied house . It was near government college Lahorians could never forget. Delhi did not compensate for what they had
Very true, our family lost everything. This family went from Sonepat and very small town no architecture just dark and dingy homes and they won a lottery while the real owners were driven out. It is good see Pakistan going down, they have no skills to run the country, looters never prosper
@@humairapiracha659 The property owned by Muslims in India (who migrated to Pakistan) is now owned by Waqf board which is the Third largest property owner in India after defense and railways. This Waqf board is a autonomous corrupt board that was granted rights to claim any property in India by simply proclaiming so, to appease the Muslim vote. Good luck trying to get permission to film anything on their property ...without getting a fatwa issued in your name, Inshallah, we will remove this cancer called Waqf and then show all the properties to Pakistani brothers and sisters
Partition was traumatic. People who occupied the old houses in Lahore came from equally significant homes in India. Such houses should be cherished and refurbished. Please take care of the beautiful house.
Not always, my great grandfather saw the lows of people take over homes fled by their occupants as a Muslim he considered this theft weather the families were or weren't Muslims.
Amazing narration...your voice makes one live through the days gone by....glad , when you tell that the name plate still reads ' Amolak Ram Mehta ' and how the families who have sunbsequently occupied the house have made no effort to scrub the historical evidence , unlike , todays day and age where we all suffer from ' identity crises ' syndrome and miss no opportunity to put our stamp of custodianship...may be you can convert it into a heritage homestay , if it seems viable and lucrative ...otherwise , maintaining such mammoth structures will continue to be an arduous task , i say this because my family owns a small haveli , almost in a state of neglect and disrepair , it saddens me no ends to see it crumbling and i pray and hope that some day it is given a new lease of life and resonates and echos its long lost grandeur...thankyou for sharing this video with us ...im from Uttar Pradesh , India🙏
The house belongs to the people who build it, they were forced d to leave. People living in it now are living in stole property. You should go and see dingy dark Muslim homes in Sonipat. Owners of the house were forced to leave because they didn't convert that is the vital part of the history,
My phoopho house is right opposite to this house. I myself have been to this house so many time. The ladies used to lived in this house were very loving. They were sisters of Dr mubashir and Shabbar. Its brought back so many my childhood memories. My phoopho house is still there and it's original pre partition condition.
At 70, memories of Lahore evoke a sense of pride and love for the places and people I’ve grown up with. Thank you for talking about my Golden Period of life and how it has shaped me over the years. ❤
Very beautifully narrated ! Full of nostalgia for any child who grew up in 60s 70s and early 80s in the subcontinent! So many sounds, sheets and those melodious voices and unmatchable experiences are now resting in the deep recesses of the times gone by ! Thank you for making those sounds and experiences alive for me! I can see each person listen to every sound of yore through my mind's eye!
My city, Lahore, has number of such beautiful houses with story. It's a tragedy that such buildings are vanishing fast without nurating their stories. A good step in right direction

Same here… my nanima used to talk about their mansion when we were little and I never thought to ask for their address. I really wish I could visit their ancestral home one day and re-visit her memories

A beautifully narrated piece on the shared history of a particular house in Lahore. Loved listening to the cadence in your voice when you were speaking in Urdu.
MashaAllah.I am from Lahore but expat now living in the UK.Thank you for evoking long lost memories of my Lahore.Nothing like the old architecture and the Old Lahore.
Everything old and precious flew out with the Hindus and Sikhs. The culture, inclusiveness, richness, progress, art all went out. Now you are left with an Islamic state and begging bowl in hand. Still stand with Imaan, Muslim bhaichaara, Inshallah, Mashallah, almoodalala, and Allah will ensure the downfall.
@@neeleshfatterpekar5936 Sadly same is happening to muslims in India today. Constant harassment, destruction of their historic Masjids ( like the recent burning of a 110 Madrasa in Bihar by BJP goons which contained 4000 historic books too ) , altering history books to suit Hindutva propaganda, disenfranchising muslims and their contributions to India, and abuse by the right wing government . In his recent speech in Telangana, Amit Shah talked about taking away reservations for muslims in education. I'm scared for the safety of Muslims in India and their rights. Communal discord is already on the rise as evident by the recent resurgence of the Khalistani movement in Punjab because of the right wing government's overeach. One cant even question or criticise the government, as clearly seen when Amir Khan was abused when he rightly pointed out that intolerance was growing in India. Which shows India is turning into a dictatorship and Modi as the supreme dictator who remained mum on the Adani corruption case because of his obvious links to the billionaire and his offshore shell companies. South states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu already have increased animosity and do not like the central government because of the beef ban, manipulating the Indian constitution and going against the decree of an individuals right to eat what they want. Karnataka has also seen recent skirmishes because of the central government and Amit Shah's call for hindi imposition on south indian states causing more disintegration than harmony. So many constitutional rules broken, so much violence, so much propaganda, so many rights taken from the people. I think if this goes on, 2002 is going to repeat in India, only this time not just limited to Gujarat but in multiple states in India. Khalistan is just the beginning. If the Indian right wing government goes on this rampage, imposing their hindutva ideals, more states will ask for autonomy. All this will ensure the downfall of India. 😭

Thank you so much, dear Fatima, for sharing this endearing part of Lahore's history. I grew up in my Grandfather's (allotted) house at 12 Jail Road. Next to this house, stood an exquisite marble mansion ( also built pre-partition) at 16 Jail Road. Unfortunately both structures were neglected and destroyed by future generations. Hats off to you, your family and community for preserving the Mehta Mansion and promoting its long lasting tradition of inspiring its residents and visitors to achieve success and happiness.
I always keenly used to look that house every time I was passing by that home- I was just thinking about this house last week and suddenly video comes across ❤️
Vaid Mehta, son of Amolak Mehta has mentioned about this house in detail. Also narrated the story of his visit made in 1979. Reference (Lahore: Yasir Jawad's compilation, p:213-16)
Beautiful concept ,projecting the practicality of homes and the highlight being old architecture . But a detailed and panned photo narration would have put 'char chand ' to this wonderful nostalgic view. Well spoken lady narrating the backstory. Great effort 👍
I know that place from my childhood. It was opposite to services hospital. My cousin was a Dr at Services and she was friends with lady of the house and I remember visiting the house where I met three little girls of my age. I think I am not mistaken in recalling that mansion.
My Dada ji had two houses one in Amritsar and other in Lahore. He has business in both cities but he lived mostly in Amritsar with his family. They had to leave the huge house to neighbors overnight amid riots. They never went back ,ever. 😢 my cousins later visited that house though.
❤😢......its so emotional and lovely to see the purity of love with old cultural and sentiment s attached with history...,...i love, can we see more about this mention
We should be proud of our historical place but I was surprised to see that ppl of Lahore as they think to modernize this city city of walls became the city of concrete I cam after 15 yrs whole city is changed thank you for this beautiful narration great job plz keep it up
Pure nostalgia for me. How do I explain my feelings? I grew up in my grandfather's house , No. 1 Park Lane, which is off Temple Road and within walking distance of the Safanwala Chowk. I still remember Daen's Bakery at the corner of our lane, where it joined Temple Road.Thank you for this journey into a wonderful past which can never return to Lahore.
Beautifully narrated n facts stated! Amazing ! This tells political issues still do not disturb our conscience n lives! The name plate' still remaining intact is something incredible n worth salute to the residents of the Hasan household! Thanks for the video! Great upload! My notion for my neighboring is now confirmed!
All these homes belong to Sikhs and Hindus, who your people killed for froced to leave so that you guys can take over their properties. Karma has great way of getting back.
Hello respected madam, I am from Hisar, Haryana Bharat. Very nice information given by you about this beautiful home, which is now occupied by a family migrated from panipat haryana. In fact Panipat is a tehsil of karnal and first priminister of Pak is nawab of Karnal, including a huge property of three hundred village,he is a muslim league leaders,so if someone came under his leadership, they migrated to Pakistan otherwise, Muslim community still living in Panipat Haryana peaceful life style, Partion struk only punjab area, even rajsthan nuh, Mewat , gurugram Delhi, Malerkotla etc Muslim live peacefully, Respected, I am very younger then you,but still I really like to say you people should not leave their home, My best wishes for all of you.

Still I didn't understand when we both community against British for our freedom why this migration is happened, In Haryana very muslim agitation against British with co-op of Hindu community, only to reside here not to leave their home land,so why this happened, my elders says Hisar City both the community living peacefully in fifty fifty of strength, same in Hansi, even a nawab of Hansi given death sentence with Hindu for freedom fight in front of their respective home, and their last rites of done by government against their community rituals, Hindu ko dafna Diya or mirja sahib ko Hindu ke tarike se jala diya,in freedom fighter ko partition ke waqt home land chhodna pada, jis ke liye wo fansi per chad gaya hai, I am really very much younger and birth after many decades of partition, but I feel sad because I really see the death' warrant of mirja sahib of Hansi with a Hindu,in original at Hisar district magistrate office. Wonderful watch and the lady is so graceful. Its heart wrenching to witness such stories as my family too had to give away everything in Dhaka and come to Assam.
I feel like we are only now seeing some stories of Partition thanks to RU-vid. The tragedy is we in Pakistan of a certain generation have no clue what entailed in the Batwara. Society was truly changed by an unholy idea of communalism. There was a Lahore which we only now imagine by stories of tearfully abandoned homes at the stroke of a doomed midnight.
This makes my heart break how difficult it must have been for the families of both the sides to leave behind their homes, their memories, their lives , their friends , their identity and stepping into an unmapped future😢
