Nothing is worse than finding out that your favorite role model or actor that may have either inspired you, motivated you, made you for who you are, eventually turning their back on you on whatever it is.
Kind of a flawed mindset tbh. I get that aspiring to be someone better than you is a thing but at the end of the day they are still human. Humans who are capable of doing wrong and making mistakes. Plus it's hard for them to turn they're backs on you when they barely even know you.
What I meant to say was Never ever meet up with your heroes because at the end of the day all they will ever do is let you down. Have you heard this saying before kids? I have.
That’s a crummy way to look at life. Just because your hero turned evil, doesn’t mean you have to. You just have to use the ideal that you believe and carry on with it. Also, there is so many thing that’s worse than finding out your “hero” is bad, like finding out your the girl you’ve been having feeling and sleeping with for is your…..
Terrible it may be, I find it funny how this sounds so much like a sidequest from Yakuza. The mental image of Kiryu or Ichiban dealing with this guy is deeply satisfying.
His stage name really says it all. Takasugi, using the specific kanji, can mean "tall cedar" or "expensive cedar". With all he's done, he's been such an expensive burden to everyone he's messed with (in more than one way) and it'll a real tall order for him to ever clear his name. Takasugi indeed.
Perhaps there are members of the Yakuza who grew up watching Super-1, and didn't appreciate Takasugi using them as an excuse to swindle people. So maybe they are the reason he vanished.
As much as what Takasugi did being irredeemable, scandalous and in general being something no human should do to another, please do not let these incidents dissuade you from checking out super-1 as a show. Of course im not trying to play down the severity of the actions the actor did, but the character of kazuya oki did not do these things, so should be judged in a vacuum outside of what Takasugi did, and I believe youll find super-1 to be an enjoyable show all the same, I know i certainly like it quite a lot.
Agreed. I strongly believe in separating the character from the actor- I love Super-1 and will continue to watch it regardless of what Takasugi did and I also believe in imagination; we all know that Kazuya Oki would NEVER do what Takasugi did. Plus, there are other actors on the show, if you don't wanna watch Super-1 for Takasugi, do it for the other actors who act their butts off to make the show great. Like they say, can't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch
I have since separated Oki Kazuya/Kamen Rider Super-1 from Shunsuke Takasugi, as heartbroken I am about this mishap, I still love Super-1 as a character, he is one of my favorite Showa Riders still and I still enjoy the show
Does he profit from purchasing the official release? Because if not, then watching the show officially is fine. If he does, though, then grab your skull and crossbones flag, and keep an eye out for trains
Super-1 has been & will still be my favorite Showa rider, regardless of what Takasugi did or still will do. It's not Oki Kazuya's fault that Takasugi Shunsuke became a piece of shit in his later years after all.
I have an idea: a special _Kamen Rider_ crossover movie! The title would be _Kamen Rider Super-1: Show Me the Money_ and the plot would involve several police riders (G-3, G-4, Drive, Vulcan, etc...) trying to bring in Kazuya Oki (Super-1), who went rogue years prior and has been scamming many of his fans out of their money. Obviously, if this movie were to be made, they would either have to get ahold of Takasugi and get him to agree to reprise his role as Super-1, or find another actor who looks and sounds almost exactly like him.
Eehhhh, while a meta idea, it has no reason to exist in the rider universe and is almost more of a cruel joke that a substantial plot to a movie people would actually want to see.
@@firewolf950tfwgaming7 yeah me too i just read that comment make i feel i want see it kamen rider own dark comedy movie a moments 😂😂🤣😂🤣😂i can’t help to laugh i can imagine look like in movie.
This man was a part of something. Sure, maybe it was just a TV show, but you can't argue with its legacy. Generations of kids, 50 years worth have grown up on Kamen Rider meaning something to them. To defend the weak, to strike at the evil, to uplift the helpless. And he used that and he turned it against people. He used them in a much more mundane but equally sickening way than the villains he faced. He was given the chance to be part of a legacy that was bigger than him and would outlive him. And maybe it's silly and overblown. But not too overblown for him to use it against the people who trusted him.
I was born in 2001, I got into Kamen Rider as my first introduction to superheroes as a one year old. Super-1 was one of my very first introductions to Kamen Rider(I started with the Showa era). If I had known at that time that Shunsuke Takasugi descended into this criminal life, it would’ve broken my heart….. even as an adult now I am heartbroken
This is the first time I’m getting into the real nitty gritty details of this whole thing and it’s genuinely one of the grimiest things I’ve seen someone with that kind of standing in the fandom do. Unreal.
Super-1 is one of my favorite Kamen Riders in Showa Era but upon seeing the actor who played the Rider became an escaped criminal due of allegedly deal with Yakuza made me shock, upset and anger The moral lesson is if you're an actor or not, be careful who you trust to other people.
Damn, I haven’t watched any showa riders yet but it must have been so hard for the victims to have been facing such a crime, especially to one you looked up to. Also thank you Marcosatsu for the research in this video and the editors who worked hard on this 👍🏿
Man, it’d be funny of toei pulled a DCEU and turned Super 1 into a rider villain in crossovers I heared Boken Black’s actor’s father got lost in the woods, so he wanted his fan’s help and money to find him, but the fans were cautious of another Super 1 incident and decided not to help, eventually, he found his father already dead, he turned his back on his fans ever since
Man is a shame knowing everything the actor did. Super-1 is my, current, favorite Showa season but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth knowing the Showa hero that I like the most is a actually a pile of crap of person......be careful with the heros you admire
That's where you got the direction wrong. admire the CHARACTER, NOT the actor. whoever played the character, said character would forever be immortalized in our hearts as our heroes. as for the actors, depends.
This honestly would be a great new series. If it does become a series, what do you think of calling it "Behind the Tokusatsu Screen" or something similar to that?
I don't know how long I have become someone who only respect the fiction character. So, I don't give an F if I ever meet the actor him/herself other than "Whoa, I didn't expect to meet you here" just that and I will tell how great they bring the feel towards the character that they played. If they ever ask me for money, I will see how much first and either I give only once or I will go savage by saying "Please don't misunderstand me, I only respect the person you have played as, not you"
@@mattwo7 I actually added in "Allegedly" in an edit. I picked up the news that he stole that banner from Linkara's History of OpOver when it came out a few years back. I looked up the actor's name and caught a tweet thread from Linkara that cast a touch of ambiguity on the matter, so I changed the comment to show I'm not 100% sure it's the truth. That said, I believe Samuell Benta did steal it.
I don't remember Tetuso nearly ramming someone with his car before, almost killing a person in the process But yeah, at least Tetsuo apologized and last I checked he seems to be doing well
What Black's actor did was wrong too but I wouldn't say it's worse than what Super 1 did The only difference is that while Black's actor did apologized, Super 1 just completely disappeared without a trace or word
@@Red.Decimo Kurata Tetsuo's case is mostly just copyright infringement & breach of trust of some kind, instead of outright swindling like Takasugi Shunsuke did. no doubt that what Kurata Tetsuo did was kinda off-putting in its own right, but it was nowhere near what Takasugi Shunsuke pulled. what the former did was questionable, but what the latter did was just unforgivable.
I don’t think we need to. What Kurata did was dumb and petty, but his behavior was nowhere near as bad to begin with, and I believe he’s made a good effort to make up for it anyways
@Orthopox 13 Might have missed a few but from what I remember, he used a statue of Black made by a fan for advertisement despite that he was warned not because of legalities and became very negative on the Kamen Rider series during it's anniversary
I love Kamen rider to my death, and I will forever be grateful to that franchise. But I think reason why super-one's actor used his fans to get more money was probably because of his greed and cunningness, he's like a Playboy only instead going after women, he always went after money. Idk why he did that...maybe because his style of living wasn't the best or probably to make himself feel richer. I don't fucking know why he did it, but I do know that this can happen in real life and that people should always be careful to hiring. *Especially in Kamen rider* Japan along with the whole world, probably see Kamen rider as nothing more but a marketing juggernaut. Like the fucking batman or fucking spider. But that's not the case, at least to the people. Kamen rider isn't just a brand, but a mantle, a legacy of fulfilling and meaningful stories. Sure it maybe chessy and even a little predictable. But that doesn't matter when it comes to Kamen rider. See, in America, if a actor is in trouble and if they played a big role like a well-known superhero then oh well hire another one. But in Japan, that's it, if a Kamen rider actor is doing evil deeds, then we've lost that rider...maybe even forever. I swear, when Kamen rider is alive, those who've done evil deeds will pay for the crimes that will not go unhalted for ignorance in the name of true justice. *And I don't like justice, but for those who betray the honor of rider, will pay dearly for it*
From all the articles and discussions, especially the one from the shows, it seems as though (to me) Takasugi simply felt like he was owed the money with no care for who it was or what he claimed it was for. He leveraged his role in every case to get high off of the status and position, then would feel entitled. He didn't live a luxurious life, most of the money simply did just vanish. If we was living in luxury he wouldn't have done a ton of smaller gigs throughout the years. I remember reading in his Tokudane interview that he said he was using it to pay for his mother who was in a care home, his brother, and his son and daughter in law. However his family never got a cent from him (in a later tokudane report they contacted the brother and mother and said he never sent money for the past 15 years circa 2016). It wasn't a moral thing, and it wasn't for care of others, it just seemed as though the money vanished and he would do anything for it. Seeing as he did have encounters with the shady side of life, maybe loan sharks were involved. At the end of the day though is that he felt like he deserved things in life for what he did, capitalized on it and milked it. Be careful with success, and don't get hung up on it.
@@ferbusgddc seems more like someone who is addicted to any normal source like drugs. He's a fukin army men, should he received privileges or something for his contribution to his duty?
"See, in America, if a actor is in trouble and if they played a big role like a well-known superhero then oh well hire another one" I hear Ezra Miller is still DCEU's The Flash. Jared Leto is also still getting work with both WB's DCEU _and_ Sony's Venomverse. Let's not forget Amber Herd and Queen Mera in Aquaman 2.
@@jaytime3435 Ezra was just taken off future appearances of The Flash, no word if he's still going to be in other movies, Jared Leto was only ever fired from working at a theater and the rumors about Amber Herd being fired are apparently false but her contract for Aquaman 2 was canceled. That said, she naturally fought this, being the egomaniac she is and she thus might still see a tiny bit of a screentime.
The real tragedy of this is we'll never get Super-1 in any new adventures doing anything more than being a background cameo to fill the Showa roster. All joking aside, it definitely sucks when your heroes are not who they appear to be on tv. But superheros are still played by real, sometimes very flawed people. Our brains don't really understand the difference between the onscreen persona and the real person when the cameras stop rolling, so it can be difficult to separate the two. His performance as Super-1 was great, and he's one of the coolest looking Showa Riders. That said, the actual person clearly has personality issues. Its too bad he ran away instead of facing the music as well, because he might have had a chance to redeem himself that way, but it doesn't seem likely at this point.
0:04 Something a thankfully still small number of Power Rangers actors could've stood to learn... (though it is odd that most of them were red rangers, Samuell Benta being an exception in both not being a former red ranger or arrested for his crime of stealing from a charity auction during PMC 2007, though he was banned from PMC)
@@plumfadoodle4908 He claimed to be, I doubt he even mentioned that it was the convention staff who got on his case about it in the first place. If he didn't, he's absolutely lying. Not to mention that the timing of his video makes zero sense.
@@mattwo7 yeah i thought the timing with a video releases was weird too. You would think if he wanted to prove his innocence he would've made a response back in 2007. Also he allegedly bragged about stealing the poster on Twitter so I don't think that would have helped his case, and I said allegedly because I'm not sure if he did brag about it on Twitter or not.
Damn, even though I have seen all kinds of rabbit hole documentaries that deal with white collar crimes and swindles and whatnot, it still doesn't get any less surprising to hear about this sort of thing happening in the entertainment industry. I'm still gonna watch Super-1, cuz that is completely separate from the actions of the lead actor.
Have you personally been exploited by Marocosatsu?! You may be entitled to compensation This is one of my favorite videos I’ve seen from you, awesome work!
As someone who was scammed multiple times in my life I know first hand how damaging it could be. I wonder if he sleeps at night regretting what he's done. He essentially ruined his life doing this so it wouldn't be suprising though the fact that he's done it repeatedly, and was even about to run someone over at one point suggests otherwise.
I’ve actually seen Starscream do that in transformers prime, specifically to Megatron. It’s weird how that would come up in western media, like transformers.
Thailand or China are where I assume he is living, China had extended invitations to him for years during his scams it wouldnt be a stretch to assume he would have ran there
@@ferbusgddc No way he could have gotten to China. while it's not to say that China is actually all that clean (the country is still known for its abundance of scammers actually), at the very least, the CCP is VERY intolerant of someone with his kind of reputation & would have deported him as soon as they catch him, if he's indeed in the country. furthermore, the country as a whole is rather unfriendly to anyone who doesn't speak Chinese, especially a Japanese who's gotten himself known far & wide as a scammer.
@@FalconWindblader I only say he could be hiding there due to his ties with political ministers in China, with them yearly bringing him to events, even the year after all this information on him dropped. With his ties, there is a chance he could be, or was at some point, hiding out in China.
@@ferbusgddc Really? from what i gather from their kind of environment (i speak Chinese & often spend time on Bilibili), that doesn't seem likely at all after his shit blew up. news like this spread like wildfire over there since the news blew up & he's been made fun of ever since. sure, he was kind of a big deal when he was still widely seen as a hero, but i doubt anyone would turn up to the events he would be in ever since he turned into a joke instead, so his commercial value definitely gone bust, & for all we know, the Chinese authorities are quickly to ditch anyone who's more a liability than an asset.
@@FalconWindblader Definitely, with the leeway they gave him (even with him owning property without being a citizen) there could be a chance he tried there. Once he is caught I guess we will really find out the truth!
True about parasocial thing. When I read somewhere Jo Odagiri actually don't like his role as Kamen Rider,I feel dissapointed, but then again I think it normal cause he need money for living, and it didn't stop me from rewatch Kuuga .I still love his character as Godai and hope someday maybe he want to reprise his role (thank God Jo odagiri didn't doing something stupid like this actor)
It’s not that Odagiri didn’t like his role, I’m pretty sure he enjoyed his time Kuuga. It’s moreso a combination of 1. He’s not a big fan of tokusatsu and 2. Kuuga wasn’t a huge career changing role. The first is generally thrown around and people misconstrued it to meaning he by extension doesn’t like Kuuga when he has said he enjoyed the project(think of it like he doesn’t like the genre but can make an exception to the stuff he worked on), but the bigger one is that fact that Kuuga wasn’t a huge deal for him. Odagiri was already an established actor at the time and Kuuga was just another job. Compare that to a lot of main Heisei phase 2 and Reiwa actors where being a Kamen rider is basically their big break. For them Kamen rider is something fondly as it’s their starting point in addition to some already being fans of the property. It’s why you’ll never see him come back but other high profile actors like Gaim and Fourze do as are fond of it and are willing to return. Even if they aren’t as high profile, Agito and Blade coming back reflects on them being fond of the property, but just because they don’t come back shouldn’t construed that they don’t like it.
13:41 I think anyone who's aged enough would realise your moral about all this subject, the fact that a degree of evilness can exist in people is what makes people havge existential thoughts on it
I think Toei would have a policy to hire actors who had passion for acting and check their motives before let them in within the Acting Carrier. If I were the director of Super-1 I won't use Takasugi as an actor. Maybe someone who are veterans of Tokusatsu will be the one who takes the role of Super - 1 not that scamming piece of shit Takasugi. Maybe the ones from either Super Sentai or Ultraman Actors will be better.
this is another situation where you must separate the subject from the work because if you let this affect what you see you will miss out on great works and series but made by not good people
Don't confuse actors with the roles they play you will be disappointed. At least the heroes. I would hope you wouldn't expect the villains to be murderous monsters. (I did meet "Jiro" (Kikaida) and "Ichiro" (Kikaida-01) in Hawaii but briefly and they don't speak English and I don't speak Japanese. They seemed as far as I could tell and as the translator claimed to actually like meeting adults who watched their shows as kids in Hawaii. Ichiro liked Hawaii so much he had left instructions to have his ashes spread in Hawaii before his death). So he really was a soldier, I had heart that but wasn't sure if it was true, like this story. I heard it before but figured just a rumor. Sad to hear its apparently true. Not first Kamen RIder to sing his own opening theme, Kamen RIder (until Rider 2 came along) and Kamen Rider V3 did that, but was first to sing his own ending theme. I wouldn't want to perform that ritual once in a lifetime. Glad I didn't know this when I was watching Kamen Rider Super-1. Same as I didnt know Kiranger was so depressed over type casting he hung himself. I am going to NOT look for a video on other runors I heard about other Japanese actors. Of course I wasnt looking for this either. Stupid youtube.
Luckily, I seem to be the only person in the world to grow up without heroes or idols, real or fictional, and so would never fall for this. I guess not connecting with characters and so focussing on story and lore instead had its benefits after all.
Oh come on. You dont have to associate Takasugi's "misdemeanor to Oki. Oki is Kamen Rider Super-1, and Takasugi is just the Avatar. I may sound absurd, but its simply because Super-1 is such a good show, and design for its era. I always look at Kamen Riders separate from the actors. Shame that he Takasugi dragged Super-1's reputation with his "stolen belt" scam.
OMG, Super-1 was the first Kamen Rider I watched and thought they are all called Super Riders instead of Kamen Riders. Now I'm curious what he did with all the cash he kept borrowing.
me clicking this video, thinking that character who plays Super 1 became kamen rider by stealing belt, hyping me up for the show more, since i love his design most out of all showa riders. And then actually seeing the video ;x
I know this suggestion might be a bit wild but how about something like an icebreaker? Since you have been doing a lot of retrospective on Heisei era Riders (which I effing love to watch), try changing the pace by doing a retrospective on Showa era Riders? Try starting with Black (which is quite popular) then make a video like you did here about Tetsuo Kurata's (KR Black's actor) controversies as of late? I think that would be a hit...
Nah. Kurata Tetsuo's case relatively very small compared to this. He also ballsy enough to admit his error and apologized for it openly like a real man. gotta respect the man for that.
I am a massive fan in Godzilla but I whould be cautious if I ever went to G fest and met someone who worked on the movies while are fandoms are different I do sympathize with the victims especially since tokusatsu in my option must only bring joy regardless of the theme of the shows
Super One human form character is influenced by Jackie Chan craze from the 80s. Oddly enough, the actor’s behaviour follows Jackie Chan as well. The difference is that one is protected by the regime, the other is accounted for the crime committed in society of justice. Both are despised by their former fans.
I bet you he pawned of his belt for money. Seeing his pattern of asking his fans for money it wouldn't surprise me if you did pawn off his belt to get money.
