I honestly think Steve was a good balance not only to Marcy but also with Al. Steve was the well-talored smart but also kinda geeky guy, while Al Bundy was more the rough and tough guy who dressed poorly. Al was also very devious and cunning at times. It is true Steve was smart and kinda good voice reason for Al. Well, Al was more devil advocate for Steve. For example, Steve kinda pushed Al to bring an old library book back. You can tell Al didn't want to do it, but he did it anyway. However, a few episodes before that, Marcy crashed Steve bmw car. Al kinda showed Steve to make Marcy pay by gulit trip her into doing stuff for him. Like cook for food for him serving food in his bed side or senting her multiple times to the store. Having Marcy work. To find out at the end it was all Al Bundy who helped Steve and gave him the idea but have him planned it. Especially the whole Bruce Willias bit. I think it wasn't the same when Steve finally left. This show was still good but wasn't the same.
Interesting to note the effects of the Bundy's on their marriage...I dont think they would still be together but the Bundys sure accelerated the divorce =)
Steve and Marcy, at least at first, were truly in love, probably the worst thing they did was move next door to the Bundys. With Marcy and Jefferson, they were more in lust than anything else. Jefferson always laughed at Al's jokes behind her back, I never really saw one true ounce of affection for her from him. After Steve left her, I think Marcy just settled for Jefferson. He was a looker, and she hated to be without a man, we all saw how desperate she was when Steve was gone. Jefferson was just looking for someone to leech off of. I have a sneaking feeling if Jefferson ever won the lottery or found a rich, younger, more attractive woman that crossed his path, or both, he would have pulled a Steve and ducked out on Marcy.
@@BethHarmon-yh8msI know this is just a comedy show, but even if we take this situation in the real life, you still can't blame the Bundys or any third person for the downfall of your marriage. Steve showed signs of being oppressed by his wife and being forced to make choices he doesn't want to make. That would have exploded in the end even if Al hadn't pushed him. Third parties may accelerate a breakup, but the source material for an eventual breakup is already there in the couple
Everyone excited to see Steve go get shocked with Jefferson 😂😂😂😂😂. Thx I conditioned it 😂😂😂😂 look at this and see what you will never have again, I'm like Al, we were all blinded 😜😜
Listen to "the pop" David Garrison, a.k.a steve, got whem he came back in season 9, episode 16. That "pop" was on level with the best of Al Bundy "let's rock"
I liked all these clips, I just wish you'd put in the one where Steve decides to grow a beard or the one when Marcy wrecks Steve's car causing him to become impotent.
You watch the first season of Married With Children and see how much in love Steve and Marcy were. Fast forward a few years later after they've divorced, the poisonous barbs they threw at each other, you can't imagine how they even fell in love to begin with. Love how Steve taunted Marcy with his flaunting his supposed wealthy status, only to find out he was actually a mere chauffeur for a rich guy.
The first part of your comment is something that can happen in life more often than not. If you saw me and my ex-girlfriend now, you'd seriously question yourself how come these two were lovebombing each other 18 hours a day just 2 months ago
Thanks for the video - really brought back childhood memories, watching Al Bundy in 3. and 4. grade in Germany. It's nice to see the show with the actors' original voices. However though, if I may say, the scene where Steve grows a beard and Marcy convinces him to shave it off should have been included here :D :D
Steve: "Excuse me, but doesn't anybody know, that this is against the law?" Al: "So is dressing up a chicken and calling it your wife." Marcy: "I am not a chicken! Why does he keep calling me a chicken?" Steve: "Now, Marcy... Don't get your feathers ruffled." 😹👍
That's not really accurate. Marcy is attracted to masculine men; she just wanted to modify Steve's interests to align with her own. Many people get married with the presumption that they can change their spose.
I disagree. When Marcy was married to Steve, she was attracted to his yuppie lifestyle + new age male sensitivity (the latter which Steve had to refine and showcase in Marcy's presence).
The writers changed the dynamics between Steve and Marcy and Jefferson and Marcy. Marcy is deeply in love with Steve and there had never been an instance in this show that matches this same feeling for Jefferson. She treated him more like a pet, than a husband and Jefferson took that just because he wanted an easy leech life. There was no love between them, just mutual interests between 2 people.
@@Troy_z That's true, it changed the idea of Al's friend. Jefferson would do things with Al that Steve wouldn't have done. He probably wouldn't have been in NOMAAM, for example.
Steve and Jefferson both were unique in their own ways. But Jefferson was my favorite. Steve was awesome too. I can't really compare and contrast to be honest.
Watching this video of such a loving relationship ending in 2 people throwing jabs and hating on each other anytime they get the chance is really sad. Whoever had that happen to him with their ex in real life can testify how heavy on the heart it can be; to hear that the one you once loved and cherished is now throwing insults at you, and the only thing you can do is insult back.
At 11:26 foreshadows Steve's departure from the series when he tells Al Bundy that he quit his job at the pet store and decided to become an "outdoors man" at Yosemete National Park. In real life, the actor David Garrison actually quit the series in the middle of Season 4 to return to his hometown in New York City to work in live theater which was his career before acting on this sitcom. During the first seasons, David Garrison actually commuted to New York City on weekends to visit his family and look at acting gigs on and off Broadway in the event that the TV series he was working on got canceled. When it didn't, he asked the producers to be let out of his contract so he could pursue other projects. I guess he felt that his character of Steve Rhodes had run its course after nearly four years on MWC so which led him to walk out of the series. That is only my personal opinion, but who knows?
Actually, he quit to join another sit-com where he was he leaf (that only had a brief run) & then he went crawling back to the theater. I wish they showed some of the pirate ship episode where Steve's singing makes Peggy crazy/sick.
@ruddM That's not accurate... Firstly; Marcy didn't become a feminist half-way through the series; she was always a proud and strong woman. Secondly; Marcy didn't hate men; she hated Al; and her group FANG was a counter to Al's hate group NO MAAM. If anything, Al is the sexist one. Thirdly; let people dress however they want to dress. Calling Marcy "butch" because she was challenging binary gender norms is a petty shame tactic.
I noticed they didn't meet the kids in the pilot so when did they meet them I wonder if the producer was have the kids more in the background characters like they on everybody love Raymond
That's actually very astute. Marcy really did become a "Bundy", at least by proxy. Of all the characters on the show, Marcy definitely changed the most.
god its about time someone made this video, thanks!! Steve and Marcy were SO perfect for Al and Peg to spar with. i NEVER liked Jefferson and actually stopped watching when Steve left for good.
I've been thinking of binge-watching this sitcom again and stopping when Steve leaves. Not because I have anything against Jefferson, but because I feel the show "Jumped the Shark" by that point and became a parody of its former self in the latter seasons.
