Honestly it sounds like there's a dev who's just fucking around and sneaking in changes for giants, then others find out and remove them

Honestly, I’d love this in the vanilla game, with two changes: - get a unique skin that makes it more than a resized zombie - it’s retrained to a unique biome so we don’t see these everywhere and fear them spawning anywhere. Maybe they come in a “Giant Biome” with upscaled trees and open spaces or something, like mooshrooms and their biome

"I have speed 2 and the giant's catching up" is one of the scariest sentences and most panic-inducing visual I've seen related to Minecraft.

i love how the reason why the giant hasn’t been removed yet is because he was simply “too cool to remove”

Imagine a biome where everything is huge. Super big trees and giants and stuff

Imagine how cool it would be if giants were added in the caves and cliffs update, you had the warden who controlled the deep dark, and you have the giants who control the peak of the tallest mountains

My theory: Someone in the mojang team just sneakly updates the giant but then someone other in the team discoverd that and removed the changes

I've never forgotten the day I was a kid and I learned the command to get giants to spawn. They were a huge part of my Minecraft experience

I personally believe someone in the dev team is using the giant as a punching bag to test new features Like Warden's dps against different armor sets, netherite swords, etc etc The giants' massive hit box and even bigger hp pool makes it the perfect tool for testing

"THE mob never properly implemented." Pigmen weren't either. But their concept survived through Zombie Pigmen and later turned into Piglin. If the giant is ever implemented, it'll be a different kind of mob and won't look like this.

Giants should either spawn in zombie sieges, but only in a high regional difficulty, or in the big 1.17 caves deep down. Also the reason the armor bug was fixed was probably for map makers, and the texture was changed because they share a texture file with zombies.

I just wish they just had their AI functioning like the snapshot so they can be used in custom maps with commands, similar to how the illusioner never spawned in the game but is fully working so it can be used in custom maps.

This is legit sad. Imagine seeing them in the middle of a forest and the only way to run away is to go underground.

Well it also took Mojang 10 years to properly add crying obsidian into the game

I understand why Giants aren't implemented, but why did they have to remove the AI? Let mapmakers use it.

Yeah, we really need more bosses like this. This can either be like the Wither, where you build something and get a reward for defeating the Giant (like a big zombie golem with a single zombie head from a charged creeper explosion) or maybe a time-based challenge, where on the 100th day the zombie will rise from the original spawn or something.

i hope mojang adds the giant as a boss of some kind, the giant just feels like one of those mobs that only fit into a "boss" category rather than a "natural monster"

My guess is that they're a dev resource used to test changes to the game.

It just sounds like a love/hate relationship between Mojang and Giants lol.

More bosses is exactly what Minecraft needs. The exact reason I play Terraria more than Minecraft is the boss progression in the game. I'd love to see Minecraft get a more in-depth boss lineup.

Since Caves Are Ganna Be Gigantified in the cave update it would be great if mojang reused this idea for caves with bigger Openings

As someone who used to make adventure maps, it really sucks that they removed the AI. Giants would’ve made a really interesting custom boss fight

I think giant will have a use if mojang decides to add a "Castle" structure, which makes giant a boss in it.

I've always thought the giant should be buildable similar to withers/golems, as a proper overworld surface miniboss. The ocean has elder guardians, and underground is getting the Warden

As a coder myself, most of the changes Mojang did to Giants just seems like side effects of other changes The sound change in 1.0 & 1.4 is just a side effect of changing the default damage sound for players, the texture change in 1.14 is just a side effect of the normal zombie texture changing, /summon was added in 1.7 is the same snapshot as the /summon giant change so it was just included since it exists in the game The only change I can see being them intentionally going into the Giant code to change is the armor rendering bug, and maybe the 1.8/1.14 AI change, so the giant is even more unloved than it looks like

When i was a kid, i heard so much about these guys, everyone was talking about them, and now when i looked up videos of them, only click baity videos on how to summon them are shown and are basically just herobrine mostly. I thank you so much for this trip down memory lane and telling more about these insane beasts

Think about it. The new cave update shows huge pockets and even bigger areas to explore which could fit these. What if they’re going to be added in with the caves and cliffs update?

I remember playing this one server for maybe 4 months - around 7 years ago - and at halloween they had giants roaming around, was the most fun i'd ever had on MC, i so wish you could spawn a giant in creative with a standard spawn egg

I remember playing on a server around 2013 to 2014 that actually had giants spawning naturally by a plugin. They were rare though, I only remember seeing them from a distance (the server also had a pludin that generated a skylands-/floating islands type of world instead of normal terrain).

Here's an idea for how Giants might be able to work: -They do not spawn on easier difficulties, only normal and higher. -They do not enter villages, causing villages to be something of a safe haven from the threat of giants. -They do not enter forests or swamps either. -They spawn only rarely, and are not a constant threat to players. -They have two different primary "states": Roaming and Defending. -Roaming Giants are not hostile on sight, but will attack players who attack them first. They can however grab sheep, pigs, and cows. When each of their hands are full, they return to their den. -Defending Giants are at their "home" or "den" so to speak, and will attack players on sight in an attempt to defend the place from intruders. -Giant dens count as their spawning point, and exist inside of caves near the entrance, which is large enough for them to enter and leave. -Giants are not zombies, and do not fear sunlight. They tend not to be roaming around at night, and are more likely to be at their den. -Giants drop high quality loot such as better armor, weapons, diamonds, etc.

I feel they'll add it eventually. They'll just add it in once they feel like it, or come up with an actual Skin or model with concept.

I will never forget about the giant, and even if it is removed from the game it will always be an amazing addition to the history of Minecraft and its mobs.

Thank you for your video, I find it super interesting, it reminded me of old memories, but I can't find any sources that certify them so what I'm going to say may be wrong: A long time ago, I heard that Notch had plans to create a Dreamworld (later named Sky World), it was supposed to be the reverse of the Nether (with lots of flying islands) and we were also supposed to use the beds to access it ( the use of the beds was not yet final at the time). In this dimension, we could have found giants that appeared naturally

I love the video and it has some interesting ideas. A lot of the script had redundant writing though, with some parts literallt saying the same thing multiples times one after another, so that kind of made the video a bit slow. Otherwise, I think it's an interesting video with digestible pieces of the giant's history and specs.

According to my head-Canon of minecraft, giants are an extinct species, the only remains are the fossils you find in desert or soul sand valleys

Similarly to how you presented them on that mountain with the floating island in the back, it would be cool to have a sky biome like Jack and the Beanstalk where giants live, with huge buildings and possibly become hostile if they see you take their stuff

Imagine something like a different version of Bad Omen, that spawns a zombie raid at night when you're near villages. You fight a few waves of zombies, with increasing numbers, and armor. With the giant at the end as a boss. It could give you Hero of The village II or something.

My guess: Increase build limit -> Add sky biome -> Giants spawn naturally

We need a boss version within a dungeon for every hostile mob.

I have been enjoying the Cliffs and Caves beta for a month now, with over 30+ hours in maybe 10 worlds, 1 world with about 25 hours of that, I have seen amazing sights never imagined before in minecraft, like under ground mountains and seas with high ceilings over 40+ blocks high, new underground features, and funny glitches like floating lava lakes, but still no giants or biomes that I've discovered yet.

I think giants should return to the game with the Caves and Cliffs update, and they would spawn in a castle on the top of specific mountains like a woodland mansion. They would have a new texture so they weren’t just big zombies, and they would function as a boss and drop some sort special item.

It has been, there’s certain dimensions in the april fools snapshots where giants were actually in the game

Good video, my guess is there's gonna be a giant boss and this is how they practice the code to keep it secret. Something where you have to turn big in the overworld to fight them and the boss!

Here’s an idea. In Minecraft dungeons (game), there are bosses that represent vanilla mobs. Zombie boss, skeleton king boss, etc. In vanilla Minecraft , sometimes you stumble across bones underground. Maybe a revamp of the typical dungeons you can find in game, revamp them to big boss rooms with original mobs, make them more powerful and make it a boss fight to get items , a spawner perhaps. Something along those lines would be really interesting.

I just started playing minecraft again recently, giants used to be and still are my favorite mob in the game it is such a shame all functionality from them are gone. I really hope Mojang puts in the tome to figure out a good use for them because its been sitting there unused for far too long.

I'd like to see a new portal place or something that's sorta like Jack and the Beanstalk or something. Really good way to implement them, and something entirely new with giant sized villages, blocks, weapons, etc. Just an idea I thought would be cool

I remember the good old days of playing MineZ and fighting giants... that’s the only reason I even remember the mob. It’s a little saddening that most of the newer Minecraft players are completely unaware of its existence.

I think someone, or a small team, in the background of Mojang were secretly updating the zombie giants, and they were just caught.

The giants, the enchantment table and the chainmail are hands down the updates I expect the most. Make the chainmail easier to get, and or make it so you can use it under heavier armor like a real chainmail suit; open the possibilities with the enchantment, it's a mechanic that nobody uses anymore since villagers can sell books; and Mojang can expand the lore with the giant, but they don't seem to do anything with them

Play on empire Minecraft to fight a custom coded boss called momentus, it has effects like “drawing you in” by tping you to it, and it spawns hordes of custom coded zombies. The server also has custom coded difficulty setting through commands, the harder the difficulty, the better the loot. There’s also custom coded loot. It’s an economy server with both plots and vanilla style play
