The Story of the Nutcracker was originally a book. This book is brought to life with the music of Tchaikovsky and the voice of Claire bloom. The theatrical reading is right up there with Christmas Vacation and Charlie Brown Christmas.
THIS is my childhood! I have an old scratched CD that my dad burned from a recording of our cassette tape copy. So glad someone else in the world knows about this. It's magical!
I had a CD that came with a book of the story and I used to fall asleep every night starting December 1st listening to this. The CD got scratched a few years ago and it made me extremely sad so finding this now (Christmas Eve!!!) is perfect! This is the perfect Christmas present.
Glad someone else enjoys it. I was afraid no one would notice. "The children have had a little too much Christmas" is a line used by my family every Christmas since the 80's.
Dan Confino i used to fall asleep every night listening to this tape when I was a kid. I dubbed it from the library copy then made another dub to ensure i could always listen to it. You have made me a very very happy (woman) kid. 🤗
This is magic! I heard this a few years ago on Amazon Prime. The story was told against a backdrop of a grand room with huge fireplace and tree. Clair Bloom's voice and the music were perfect.
I also got this for Christmas years ago. I'm glad to find it again here. It is interesting how details change with each translation. In this story, and the print English translation I got from another web site, the girl is Called Marie. In an audio book read out on RU-vid, unabridged, she is called Maria. Her brother's name is Fritz here and in my print translation, but in the in the other audio book on RU-vid, he is called Fred. In the classic ballet, Marie/a is Clara, which is the doll in the other audio book translations, where as here, the doll is Claire.
Oh, another thing. In this version, NC is said to have always worn boots. In the others, he has never worn them. I wonder how the details got mixed up from one to another.
