I think it would be cool if there were options for autonomous pregnancy, autonomous careers, autonomous relationships to give you autonomy but also freedom. Or maybe a slider for intensity of random story progression

TS4 was made to be an rpg from the start not a simulation. I see that a lot of people who don't play other type of games might have a hard time to tell the difference.

my personal problem with the sims is just how much control we have over the events. sure there’s some random whacky things that happen every once and a awhile, but overall the game just feels like a big checklist recently. idk hoping that the future update downgrades this aspect a bit
i agree. i want more chaos, the game is too safe. i want more accidental deaths too, hell it's sooo difficult to kill sims even when you try (except drowning but honestly that's a boring way to die in sims) unless you cheat. in earlier sims games there was something happening constantly and if you blinked someone caught on fire lmao. that was fun to me.

The sims don't have enough of a personality for this to work. Ask them to do the same thing over and over and no matter their personality, even if they said no before, they will change their mind with no effort and do it when you ask a second time. Also, when you get engaged your exes hit you up again. Why can't we get invited to an exes wedding out of no where? Why can't I cause drama by hooking up with the groom right after they said their vows? Or hook up with the musician and the ex who was tooootally over you goes into a jealous rage and fights the musician and the bride cries as she watches... sigh.
That's... not story progression, that's basically putting MCCC commands in the social menu and adding a randomizer. It's a shorter version of loading into their household yourself, having someone change jobs, and clicking "try for baby."
I was going to post this. MCCC is story progression this is you needing to micromanage the world. If there was story progression and the options to bring these topics of conversation up then that would be cool. But I'm not excited for this at all.
one of the main charms about story progression in sims 3 is that no save game ever feels the same. different people will end up dating, you may end up seeing your neighbor from down the road flirting with someone who clearly isnt their spouse. the townie you decide to settle with may suddenly have a fling on the side or you might go with the same one as before, but this time theyve found someone else and now you have to break them up for the two sims to be together! drama kind of writes itself with little input from you, the player, and thats how i like it being played out. i want to be in control of the sims i play but the other ones should have lives of their own and do as they wish. i think they should have held onto this until they had more, maybe for the january update. its still shallow and still forces the player to maintain everything about the game -- aka the thing most wanted to avoid. get it back into the oven, please!
As far as I know, in the sims 4 sims build relationships with others too. Sims 3 broken story progression, able to exist only with NRAAS mods, was no different than sims 4 almost non-existent one. Sims 3 had its progression (kids, marrying, moving) only after realise and it became broken after some update or EP. It causes towns to die over time while you play with next generations, because townies wont have children themselves. And if you try to hop from one household to another to impregnat sims, when you come back to your own family you have to deal with dissapearing babies that are in the family tree, but can be seen nowhere else. I had to create families with children and put them in sunset valley before new generated sims with "the same face syndrome" would spread around.
@@leena75 ofc ive seen the sims in 4 build relationships, however what im mostly talking about is the lack of drama or storytelling behind it without your own force of hand. how often to you see townies in sims 4 hooking up with one another? or becoming enemies? you rarely have a townie come up to your sim and start fights or casually decide to chat you up etc. thats the things im talking about that i think sims 4 is missing. i usually keep my sims life span on long so i never have issues with my towns dying in 3 and its sad that it ends up that way for you! its a buggy piece of software no matter what and EA had no interest in fixing up the mess they caused over the years with its coding. i just want to see the sims have lives of their own and i want it to happen with little input or have it be forced by the player.
Honestly, MC Commands from Deaderpool has far superior "story progression" and the update really doesn't provide much compared to the Mods that I already have installed. 😅
I think calling it "story progression" is misleading. Story Progression in The Sims 3 was an incredibly complex system deeply imbued in the open world mechanics of the game.
And it stopped working after a while (it worked after ts3 realise, but few updates and packs killed it). Im so tired of praising sims 3 story progression when in fact the only thing sims would do was choosing the career. No marrying, no pregnacies. You have to download NRAAS to have a full sp experience, but it has it's consequences too
I mean, the sims team did say that this is not story progression but that it’s neighborhood stories or whatever to deferenciate the two and to not set the wrong expectations. @@leena75 that's straight up untrue? I played Sims 3 completely vanilla for about 11 years and the base EA story progression did in fact involve births, adoptions, marriages, relationships. The only problem was it didn't progress at a fast enough rate so you weren't able to sustain a town on it so it definitely was flawed, but those features did in fact exist. I remember one of my legacies my heirs married a younger brother of Mortimer Goth (born through story profession) but I didn't realize he was already in a relationship with someone else (also through story progression)
It's so weird how they continue to make the world revolve around you, instead of making it feel like you're a part of a growing, autonomous world. On top of the fact that Sims already have the personality of wet doorknobs. Days like these are when I miss NRaas and Ts3 Story Progression

If they could give us the option for full control, medium control and complete chaos. That would be perfect. They should allow for insanely random things to happen in the background or for you to be able to select so many things for your sims.
I loved the ability to choose how many days each lifespan lasted in the sims 3 like you were talking about! I remembering getting a pad and paper and trying to determine how many sim days should equal a year and everything.

This might be a tiny bit random, but I want to recommend Assassins Creed: Syndicate because it's set in victorian London, and it's a underrated game(in my opinion at least), also if I remember correctly there might be a sidequest that has to do with Jack the Ripper
So it took 7 years and a few months for the Sims 4 to give us a CORE feature of the Sims games. This game, as a life simulator and a Sims game, doesn't make sense without story progression. Never forget how scummy EA has been with the Sims 4.
The Sims 3 was the first and only game in the franchise to have story progression. While it was a key selling feature for the next iteration of the game, it was not a core feature of the franchise in any respect. The real dirty that has been done to the Sims 4 is the lack of personality and differentiation of individual Sims. In every iteration of the game, making friends was a challenge because you had to find Sims that meshed with your sim, and if they were incompatible it was damn hard to build friendships. Sims would also do random things based on their personality. In my game, every single sim is a gym rat, regardless of what their personality dictates. Bella Goth looks like she belongs in a body building competition.
@@LexTime89 That's not quite true. Sims 1 and Sims 2 empowered you to create controlled story progression when they made the game entitely without it. You didn't have to worry about your mom dying while you played another family. You could spend 3 days on each lot etc and keep everyone in sync and the natural chaos of the game brought the desired change rather than it happening out of sight. And then there were some importang counterparts to story progression. Sims 1 generated new townies when some died or got married, and constantly cycled where people are as celebrities. Sims 2 let you age up townies who mean something to you, with you, and orphans were generated as children between townies. Sims 4 breaks what was good with all 3 predecessors because people move into the house you were working on for the gallery unless you disable random Sim creation, your mom ages to death while you play another family, and nobody got married or had babies unless it was with you.
I kinda think they’re shitting themselves because of Paralives. Ever since it’s announcement I’ve noticed they’re picking up more on content than they did before rather than just DLCs. I think they actually have an upcoming competitor unlike before
I hope something like the Sims 3 newspapers gets added, where you can interact and see something that's happened with story progression (Someone had a baby, someone moved out, etc). Maybe a computer/social media interaction? I really liked that element; it made you feel more like you're part of a world even when you're only focussing on your current family
I played this morning and only got 2 'have baby?' popups. My mods already give the npcs their own lives and drama without any intervention from me, this is not an update I needed. I really don't want to controlling npcs lives.
I'm a bit lost as to why EA aren't just copying what the most popular mods are instead of doing this weird middle ground where npcs will only have their own lives if you convince them to do so.
MC Comander isn’t broken with this update ? that’s pretty cool because i don’t think i could switch to their lame attempt of a story progression. Hopefully when they do release it, it has tons of options like MC (i know it won’t but one can dream)
@@user-jb7tq7ko7e it’s cause if they do what the mods do, even if it’s something as expected as story progression, people get mad at them for “copying modders”. Plus if they did it worse or even at the same level as modders, people say that modders did it better so why did they even try. And The Sims 4 seems to have a large micromanaging audience, probably built off of the fact that TS4 has no story progression. The people who like the game most (and probably because of that are likely to spend money) seem to be people who have a very controlling play style, and with this update they are trying to please players of past sims games who have a knife at EA’s throat while not scarring away their happy customers.
It’s a step in the right direction but not by much- it’s like they heard us say “we’d like if the townies had their own lives happening separately,” and instead went “I want to control everyone’s life and be responsible for all their life changes.”
I feel like it'd be a lot better if there was a scale. Maybe sims could have something in the likes and dislikes that determines if they want to get married, have kids, etc, and sometimes they'll call a close friend for advice. For example, if a sim is 50% about having kids, they could call their friend and it'd be a few pop-up options, with different things the sims say with different paths to go. Each pop-up changes the percentage of the bar, and after two or three pop-ups, if its close to 100%, they'll have kids, if it's more in the middle, it can be either one, and if it's closer to 0%, they won't have kids. Sims could start out with any percentage, and maybe their traits could effect their answers or questions to each pop-up. If a sim hates children, then they're unable to be higher than 50% on the scale for having children, and they were more likely to not be swayed by another sim's advice. If a sim was family oriented, they would be more likely to want children or get married, and they'll be harder to convince to not have kids or not get married. Plus, maybe the relationship between two sims could determine how well the advice goes. If it's their close friend or sibling, they may be more likely to listen. (I've also never played any other sims games, so I might've just explained something that's already been done and everyone already knows about.)
Im back to playing Sims 2 and Im amazed by how much stuff it has I never noticed. Like, it isnt exactly story progression, but I had a family reunion for my Sim family on a different lot, and, without my noticing, one of the Sims who was visiting (not the active family) either autonomausly flirted or was flirted with by a townie in front of his wife. I wasnt focusing on him, cause he wasnt the active household, but suddenly of the corner of my eye I see the "cheating" negative memory show up above him and his wife, and I still dont know who he cheated with. Then when I opened his household, he and his wife were still angry at eachother and the negative memory was registered!
Except that story progression in the sims 3 was possible only with NRAAS mods, because game updates killed it over time. When I got ts3 i was excited to see townies marry, get kids etc but they didnt do that. I searched why it is and found out what i told here. When I tried to make townies have kids by playing them, the babies started disappearing after birth, when they were infants or toddlers. They stayed in the family tree, but were not existing in Town. Story progression in ts3 is a sensitive topic for me (xD) because i was very disappointed with it and my attempts of making my own also was crushed by the game reality
This needs an autonomous option and a less invasive way of letting you know. Like it makes sense for family to update you on every little thing in their lives but I don't want a phone call every time my neighbor feels like switching careers. I'd much rather just get a notification saying x did this/that happened to x.
im already annoyed and bored by this update, i dont wanna get boom-barded by messages and calls when im playing it should be automatic as its taking away from the submerssion of the game by also making us now also semi control the npcs, ive had mods which add more story progression and persionlitiy for ages and honesty not shocked this update is a massive flop (sorry for spelling im dyslexic and cant spell for sh*t)

What should I do?" Confused, I told them to follow their heart. They got mad at me for not deciding for them, but I also suddenly was engaged
I'm still burned on the story progression thing from years ago when I didn't realise it was on, intensely played one family and then suddenly realised loads of my other Sims were getting old and dying or had like 5 kids out of nowhere 😅
Yeah. I miss Sims 2 when you could just have the other households paused until you went back to them. I'm forever disappointed that in Sims 4 you can turn autonomy off for all sims and yet they still go do random ass things of their own accord, even if you aren't playing the household. I refuse to have ageing on for that reason too. The timescale is already too short without sims getting old in less than a year's worth of days. Like on "long" they still seem to get a year older in about a month and it just feels so wrong.
Honestly if there was a mod or option that controlled what you could affect based on relationship levels and sim traits, that would make things a ton less creepy Like only a BFF could suggest their friend starting a family, but also being able to access the interaction from the debug menu?
Yes! These levels of prompts make sense if you're close with the characters, but your neighbor you barely speak to asking you if they should have another kid is just weird.
i remember back in 2014 they were advertising with moto: "They are so smart its weird". well, thats for me is not smart, if sims cannot even decide to leave a job or no. but in other hands, sims 4 sims were always stupidas
I recommend seeing an Osteopath. We have Chiropractors here in the USA and I work as a physical therapist and trainer at a clinic in Chicago. Your jaw issues and this crick in the neck prolly has something to do with Forward Head Posture (very common w/ a tech based lifestyle or anything that causes leaning forward or rounded posture) and the strain of the weight of your head on your neck muscles. Alternatively, it's tightening the muscles in the front of your neck; which connect to your jaw. Stress also manifests in the body as tight muscles and even teeth grinding. Anyways, I recommend getting into something like that. Will keep your spine healthy! Love your vids.
I wish sims could just progress on their own. I also wish you own sims could talk about if they wanted kids or not and be able to try on their own. A fun feature they could add is sims being different fertility levels. Like some sims can have kids easy while some can’t. Just my opinion tho
Fertility would be so great, but also yeah it would be nice if they had to discuss having kids before actively trying for a baby, and have some sims say they dont want any
i think it would be cool your relationship changed the likelihood they would listen to you? like if you're strangers maybe it's like 1/20 chance where if you're soulmates it's like a 1/5? and maybe traits could affect it as well. (ex: sims with the family orientated trait might be more likely to listen to advice to have another kid but would be less likely to break up with their partner.)
Yeah my sims always end up as loners because I don't know how to do socialising in real life let alone in the game so it makes zero sense to me that sims they've gained a level of friendship with because I don't know, you had to talk to them to make a sale in a shop, would then ask the sim for life advice. Like it would be weird to me IRL if my friends asked me if they should change job or have a baby. That's super personal for them and their S.O. or family to help with.
For those of you who are worried about the full control, I think there’s an update coming in the future for like how much autonomy you want and how much you want to control them or if you want to even control them at all😄
I hope it includes a setting to just turn the feature off entirely. I don't want them bugging me constantly, but I don't want them to randomly do anything by themselves either. I just want households to have separate time passage like in Sims 2. So each household was "on hold" when you were playing another.
I really liked the newspaper in the Sims 3 because when I am interested in my neighbors, I can read the paper and get the news. It would be good to have something like that in The Sims 4, too, maybe a neighborhood news thingy on the computer, where you can check for marriages, births and deaths and such...

6:29 My suggestion for getting better at problem solving in video games is, as strange as it sounds, playing hidden object games (also known as HOGs. They usually have characters, plots, and a mystery to solve). They usually contain the weirdest fucking puzzles with their own kind of logic but they come with the option to get hints to help you if you get stuck and after a while you start to get a feel for how to logic out what they want and the kind of 'out of the box' thinking they encourage would probably really help with figuring out more normal games. Noir Chronicles: City of Crime and Halloween Stories: Horror Movie are two good ones that can get you started if you're interested in trying out a HOG.
For problem solving games, try to think of it from a developers pov. Think about what they would add to confuse you or things you wouldn't think of at first like what would they do to try n trick you. Try to be one step ahead of them being one step ahead of you😌
I love me sum puzzle games. The biggest thing ive learned and the best tip i can give is dont put urself inside a box with things u think constrict u from trying a solution. Like "no i cant do x bc of y." Ive learned that a lot of times there isnt a y and im just thinking there is. Also, make sure youre thinking of all the games mechanics; sometimes ive forgotten 1 or just didnt pay it any mind and it was required for the puzzle. I hope that helps :) love ur vids ❤
I was playing one of my legacy games earlier and my sim’s girlfriend who didn’t live with him (but she’s marked as one of my played households) rang him to say she found a ring in his bag and wanted his advice as to whether she should get engaged… I then switched households to hers and my main sim’s mum then rang her to ask if she should quit her job (she’s unemployed). Was a baffling experience 😂
They claim that it shouldn't be things that would affect mods (it might be things like additional colour swatches on the windows and doors and curtains and stuff like that) but most likely it will still find a way to conflict with something.
That seemed to be a thing in Island Living? When I played the demo, anytime I went too long without cooking, the neighbors showed up to feed me (even if I wasn’t actually hungry). I think that’s what it was called.
If you see a puzzle that's similar to a puzzle you solved in a different game, decent chance it will have a similar solution, which makes the second puzzle easier than the first. You get better at predicting solutions as you solve more puzzles
I know you'll never see this but I swear by Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and the workbook on it by Marsha Linehan!! It give you problem solving skills, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness skills and all-around just teaches you how to live life when you're mentally ill!! I love it! I

For puzzle-type games, have you tried Nancy Drew? They’re so fun/hilarious/sometimes scary but also they’re aimed towards kids so they’re relatively easy (depending). There’s also like 30 of them. You could def have a series for them I think you’d like them
im the type that i dont want much control at all. i want them to actually choose waht they do themselves. i really am not looking foward to this update im just like i dont wanna play now. to many pop ups its jsut the same basically jsut more annoying. them asking about so many things is not to realitic realy.
usually the larger number of games you play the better you'll get at them. All games follow heuristics: rules that developers stick to to speed up the learning process of game mechanics, etc. E.g. a heuristic is WASD to walk, lit up path can be used to guide a player in an open world, giving haptic feedback when a button is clicked. So just keep playing xx
I clicked on ask about expanding family or something like that (without knowing about the story progression update) to my sims new boyfriend and he said he'd check with my sim before making a decision. Then my sim became pregnant without ever woohooing. Rip. I was going to take it slow this time

So, my Sims game got a little funny with this update. I was playing the Nishidake family in Mt. Komorebi (two elder grandparents and a teen granddaughter), and while the granddaughter was out snowboarding she got a call from her grandma saying, "Hey! Should I try for a baby?" Knowing that elders can't get pregnant, I said "Sure!" Why not, right? Must be a bug. Anyway, a couple days later I noticed that grandma's stomach was a little bigger, so I clicked on her and sure enough she had the pregnancy buff. (!) So now the family has the two elder grandparents, their toddler son, and their teenage granddaughter.
Could you try something for me? If you have a sim set to not be able to get other sims pregnant and not able to get pregnant themselves, do they ask this question? And if so, can they become pregnant if you accidentally clicked to say yes? I ask because I'm severely tocophobic to the point where I make it so none of the sims I play with can do anything relating to pregnancy and the fact that elders could get pregnant when the game usually doesn't allow that as a possibility worries me about loading any of my saves in case I accidentally click the wrong thing.
Yeahhhhh I'll just stick with MC command center story progression. Shit happens automatically and I can turn different notifications if I care if friends or family get married, have kids, etc
there should be options in the settings for whether you want NPCs to ask for permission before making life choices, make life choices independently, or have their lives be static like before the update. NPCs calling you to ask whether they should have kids or change careers could be weirdly intrusive for a lot of play styles.

I’m so excited to play the new update. I haven’t gotten to play Sims in a month or so since I severely injured my hand and I’m going in for surgery soon, but I’m so excited to catch up with everything I’ve been missing!
all we wanted was for the world to feel alive again and they gave us a job to micro manage instead. they act like this is what we wanted but most of us were already doing this and we wanted it to happen naturally. we want the world to grow and evolve, to have drama and create storys along with the played sims, and they just give us even more popups... i have been frustrated with the sims game for a long lime because they took so much from us to either sell it back or to never give us. its sad that the games that i grew up with have go to shit, and have very little hope of recovering.
I'm also terrible at video game puzzles, but I found Portal to be really intuitive and beating it without a guide gave me a little more confidence. That said, after I'm stuck for an hour or so I still look things up.
A really cool story progression thing I think would help is a game pack where you can follow your kid Sims to school! Like Ambitions or Get to Work but it's school ✨
I broke up bob and eliza, had my Sim (Kierra) start dating bob, and then he called my sim saying that Kierra had a ring in her bag and asking what he should do?? So I said yeah marry her and now they’re engaged! No proposal or anything!
From how I understand the sims notes, it seems they will implement customization to the level of "story progression" from micromanagement to not much at all, as well as many new features over 2022 as they expand on this (such as weddings and potential wedding invites). Excited to see where this goes.
I really miss Sims 3 story progression. It wasn't perfect but it was so chaotic. I once cast a love spell on Crumplebottom and kinda forgot about it and one day i saw that she's engaged to a woman and they were living together. Idk why but that memory has stuck with me over the years.
I think another thing that they could do is if they make it an option to only receive notifications for life choices from certain symptoms then you could gossip about other symptoms and find out untrue information about them that you have to figure out yourself which might be difficult to do if your Sims don’t like them

Jessie if your special interest rn is Victorian London and Jack the Ripper I fully recommend the book The Five by Hallie Rubenhold - it's completely about the victims and tells you all about their lives and I've learnt so much about Victorian London, and I think you may enjoy it
It’s definitely got some things that need ironed out cuz my sim got a call from his boyfriend saying that he thinks his boyfriend (my sim) was going to propose to him and he doesn’t know if he should say yes or not so he asked him for advice. Like, what?! 😭
I wish the townies were autonomous and did stuff on their own, but maybe other active households had the pop up? That way townie Sims you’re not playing will live their own lives, but then your Sims extended family that you’ve moved out or something don’t go randomly doing stuff without your permission. (Unless you make them an unplayed/inactive household, THEN they will be autonomous like the rest of the townies!) That way you have the best of both worlds and it can be easily implemented.
I don't understand how to get that to work. I made a whole street of houses (in the empty world because its the closest to what I miss from Sims 2) and did a rainbow build challenge with each house a single colour. And made matching single colour families. I would play each long enough to play test the houses, then by the time I went back to the first, they'd progressed and the kids or pets (can't remember exactly which) had got taken away because they weren't being cared for properly or something. But I had autonomy switched off for everyone and wasn't actively playing that household. I also found them wandering around the streets even though I put them inside the house and tried locking the doors so they'd stay put. Nothing froze them and made them stop doing stuff without my permission. And even in households I'm actively playing the Sims will do stuff of their own accord even with autonomy off. Like what's the point of letting us toggle autonomy off if they still do stuff without input?
I don't know how much you like to read, but there's a book called The Wicked Boy, that's a true story about a boy who murdered his mother in Victorian London. Highly recommend for anyone interested in true crime/Victorian era living
If you've got a random fascination with Jack the Ripper I'd recommend From Hell by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell. It's a graphic novel, has an interesting take on the whole thing. A little gruesome sometimes but I loved it, we read it for a writing course in my undergrad and I've never forgotten it
Is that what the film From Hell was based on by any chance? I'm guessing it might be, so if you enjoyed the graphic novel you might like the film maybe. Can't remember who was in it, just remember watching it at university for Halloween and grossing some of the others out because I was happily eating a rare steak whilst watching it and they couldn't understand how I could manage that. LOL
