I always had to have a secret code word for my mom while texting, emailing, even once when I knocked on her door and she didn’t recognize my voice. The lake happened to be the password to one of their business accounts, so my guess is that's how he knew. But I don't know how he would know the type of boat. In the 20/20 episodes, they dedicated a great deal of time talking about how Chris loved water sports so my other guess would be, the boat he used in his childhood came up in conversation with Ed Shin.
@JJoy-bk8yr

Shin could find the lake from looking up the addresses on emergency contacts. Chris's brother worked for Shin so Shin could have conned him into giving the info about the boat - "I've been thinking of buying a boat. Do you know anything about them?" or similar

My mother actually worked with Ed Shin leading up to his capture. Ed and Chris’s company had made some sort of deal with her place of employment at the time. I believe they met with Chris one time initially before he “started traveling”. The head boss that had agreed to the partnership was getting really impatient and wondering when the hell Chris was going to come back to continue on the work that was promised. Ed kept up the whole story at work too. My mom said Shin was very stoic and off putting. He didn’t say much, but he was stuck up and bougie, and also just kind of a fucking weirdo. Obviously things didn’t kick off until he was caught, but apparently he was actually caught when her old company was trying to expand from the US to Canada. According to her it was her boss and Shin trying to fly into Canada when they were both detained (boss had nothing to do with it, but the cops thought shin was trying to pull a legger). Edit: I guess they detained him on some other charges, but once the boss found out about the murder everyone was terrified that they’d been working with this murderer for so long with zero clue.

By the time the gf found out he was dead, she would have probably gotten over the break up for the most part. While finding out he died tragically would be horrible & shocking, she would have a bit of distance from it emotionally & might even give her a tiny bit of.. validation? Idk if that's the right word, but I mean she could feel like he *did* love her, hadn't tossed her aside w/o a second thought, didnt dump her over txt. Has anyone looked in the Lake? Other than that it’s the desert in which case it’s bones. I know serial killers tend to hold on to that kind of info but it seems somewhat pointless for Dick-Ed to not just tell them. Do you think maybe he tried to bargain with it? I’ve known families who have agreed to lesser sentences in order to get a loved one back. I lost my Dad two years ago and my mother has his ashes in the house but refuses to tell me where she keeps them. That eats away at me so I can only imagine how his family must feel. It’s the ultimate cruelty.

I honestly think all the time about how Americans love true crime, cops shows, murder mysteries, crime stories are everywhere & a lot of our shows educate us on how the police process works & you would think people would be better informed but nope, they do dumb stuff all the time, like keep the murder weapon or keep a written list of things to use to process a dead body, its kind of crazy how often people screw it up.

I can never wrap my head around people killing their children and spouses when they could more easily get divorced. Shannon or however you spell her name (bless her soul), wasn't exactly larger than him or very psychically intimidating. Let's say she possibly threatened him financially or publicly, then it's just a matter of Chris being extremely cowardly and to worried about his image or how people view him when having to explain how much of a shitty husband he was to people around him. Those reasons alone make him a disgusting human being that you'd rather kill your wife AND TOTALLY innocent children just so you don't have to face real life. Some time in the past I saw your channel & watched...not sure.. Happily clicked everything I saw you! And I think you deserve everyone of those million + subscribers! For instance I've seen Chris' story several times. However you made it personal in describing Chris & his family. They became real. You do it with compassion but always that cheeky humor that I so listen for! And that I love you at the end...which I do all the time but I thought yours was just a joke until, in the past year, I realized I was looking forward to it & knew, if I could, I'd chime in with my "love 💓you always Mike!" Thanks for the post, for your channel & for whatever change you might make in the future! Take care of yourself & love ❤you always Mike

The coincidence of the model, Tiffany being in the right place at the right time.... its just... astronomically unlikely in any other type of situation. If it weren't for her, the snowball wouldn't start rolling downhill as fast.

Just one reason why we all love Mike so much. He can lighten the mood some, which is nice when these kinds of things start getting too heavy, but he always manages to do it with respect , and usually at the expense of the criminal and his stupidity. Love it.
