This series was literally why my parents wouldn’t let me get the sims. I was 12 and wanted the sims 2, but it was rated teens and when they looked at RU-vid videos to see the content they found this and a few other creator-made videos with the characters talking in English about “inappropriate” things. I remember my mom showing me part of a video where the voiceover was someone calling another sim a bitch, and my mom said THIS is what you want to play?! I said that was just a video someone made but my boomer parents couldn’t understand the difference between the legit game and fan content. So I wasn’t allowed to play sims until years after sims 3 came out, when I think I was 16? It’s honestly frustrating

"Problematic TV show" and Rooster Teeth, is there a more iconic duo? Edit: as someone who watched Achievement Hunter at the time, it's really hard to overstate how common a nickname Fugz was for Kdin. It was absolutely *sickening* when this all came out and I realised it was just to hide a slur.

In case you thought this was purely about pearl clutching. There were other people who came out about Rooster Teeth too, and IIRC a big issue was that "edgy humor" was so rampant that employees who had issues with it felt there was no point in saying anything, despite how uncomfortable it made them. I think that was part of the point. There were overly dramatic shows at the time that despite having starting in reality would go off the rails into absurdity that were hard to follow. Rooster Teeth started off with making a Halo machinima called Red vs Blue, which honestly turned into a pretty interesting show that developed quite the narrative, but it was also pretty problematic to the point where they have apparently gone back and censored the earliest seasons on the internet. I say "on the internet" because Red vs Blue also sold DVDs, so the original uncensored release with all of the offensive jokes and scenes is still floating around out there. As far as the Kdin situation is concerned, it really says something that members of Achievement Hunter apologized to her privately and she rejected the apologies from most of them. One of the apologies she accepted was from Michael Jones, which I honestly find good to hear and it gives me hope at least for him, considering Michael's spouse, Lindsay, came out as nonbinary some time back. I think a lot of Rooster Teeth got stuck in the past, to be honest. In a much more serious episode of Achievement Hunter's Off Topic podcast, Geoff Ramsey talked about his realization that the company was stuck in an archaic mindset of early 2000s internet culture and how trying to ignore offensive and abusive language does not work.

Dutchmiller's quote of "There no 'I' in team but there is a 'me' if you re-arrange the letters" has stuck in my mind for almost two decades. Also the concept of Hollywood running out of ideas is becoming worryingly close to reality. Also no mention of Strangerhood Studios? It was a short spin off where the characters attempted to make a movie. They're slightly different from their main series counterparts and its just a total mess of a show.

I had mentioned to my niece a few weeks ago about some online series made with The Sims 2, but I definitely didn’t remember it’s name nor did I realize they made more using The Sims 4. Thanks for covering this and sitting through it all to bring some closure to the story. I honestly just assumed back then that it was yet another badly written thing with a mystery element presented that wasn’t ever going to be full explored and resolved so I stopped watching it because I was soooooo over things like that by the time I discovered it. Glad to know they did eventually resolve it. Maybe I should have been more patient. I didn’t realize it was supposed to be funny. I don’t remember laughing and thinking it was funny when I watched it, but that’s not really saying much. There’s plenty of things from that time period that my friends found funny that I didn’t think were so it’s possible they would have found it funny if they watched it. Great video recap!!!

I watched it and remember loving it, though I haven't revisited. I remember thinking it was very weird, but being curious about the "mystery" and binging it through the night. When it came out, my friends were all into RvB and I was obsessed with the Sims, so they showed it to me. Dunno much about Rooster Teeth, but RWBY was a pretty amazing show for a while (stopped watching it a few seasons in as it seemed to be steadily losing all hope and I didn't need those vibes...but it was good and the animation got better every season). It's wild seeing people who weren't *in it* talking about it without the perspective of nostalgia. (In a good way!)

I completely forgot this existed until I saw your video. Then suddenly I remembered it and I think I watched it back then but not sure. It’s one of those vague memories that maybe I was just aware of it but didn’t watch it? If I did watch it, it certainly didn’t impact me that much since my brain flushed it. 😂

I lived in a rural area with dial-up until I was in college in 2013. So I was rarely able to actually get on the internet so I never had access to machinemas or knew what they were until recently. This is bananas to me😂

Roosterteeth didn’t not want to make a strangerhood 2 but Ray made so many jokes over the years that they just did it for him as a joke and put him in

I liked the first few seasons of Red vs Blue back in the day (although I doubt they hold up now), so I was genuinely so hyped when they announced this series 😬 It wasn't just that I was a much bigger fan of The Sims than Halo, but also because I was excited about the possibilities The Sims would open up for the team in terms of the visual storytelling. Like, Halo is not a game made to tell stories, so RvB can be kinda boring to look at. I felt like the wild animations of TS2 would pair perfectly with their narrative style, plus they could obviously add in whatever custom stuff they wanted too. To their credit, the show did end up being visually pretty fun. It just didn't outweigh how much I hated the writing on almost every level. It's not much of a parody if the point you're making with your stereotypes isn't any deeper than "these are good, actually" 🙄 My sense of humour has definitely improved since then, so imagine how bad a show has to be to come across as tired and ignorant to a 19-year-old in 2004! The terrible pacing made it feel like a show that didn't know where it was going or how to have much fun along the way, so I couldn't get through the season and definitely had no idea there was a second. Incredible timing on this video btw - my brother and I were just talking the other day about what a swing and a miss this show was, and I was almost tempted to have another crack at it myself. Thank you for diving on that grenade for me, ahaha 💀

I remember the old machinima days, I remember watching The Real Simwives of Starlight Shores. That was a masterpiece and I want to go back to watch it, I remember having character maps in my journal because I could never remember all the characters' names and relationships. Also love the random unacknowledged anti-snape sign, what's your conversion story bestie lol
