Pretty sure the main reason Sims 4 was like "Lore? Hardly know her" was because of all the darker interesting lore that didnt fit their family friendly vibe
We could still get it as a game pack or something down the line. Look at Eco-lifestyle; it contains several ideas that were popular during the first voting experience. And I would LOVE to have Nervous return. We have precedence with the Pleasant twins, so it's possible.
loki's a giant in norse mythology and tried to defeat the gods. he was very self-centered and put himself above others. circe was a sorceress in greek mythology who convinced sailors to stay on her island and promptly turned them into animals. she was very interested in experiments. loki and circe were named accurately.
To build on this, the Circe depicted in the book 'Circe' by Madeline Miller (who I believe has a PhD in Classics and has also written a fictional retelling about Achilles) she was shunned by her family from a young age and lived in solitude and exile for a long time. If Circe from the sims was modelled anything like her then perhaps she just had a strained upbringing? Not that that justifies the treatment of nervous subject 😅
Very much so! Circe being a taxidermist, in particular, connects very strongly to her dark connection to animals. Also, the fact that so many Sims still like Circe despite the fact that she's evil could be a reference to her reputation as a magical temptress. Basically, she might have some slight mind-control powers... or she really is just that charming. Either way, she is known to lure people into a false sense of security before she strikes.

When I was a kid playing the Sims 2 I wasn’t even aware of the lore at all. But I remember making a sim named Grace who fell in love with Nervous, moved in with her, and had kids. So now all these years later watching this I’m so happy I unknowingly gave Nervous the life he deserved 🤗
The Sims 4 said "get the fire exit door, I'm off" with lore. They could have even made the excuse that an adult Alexander Goth accidentally found himself in a strange and alternate reality/universe whilst trying to create a new machine to help in his search for his mother, Bella Goth. SOMETHING.

Imagine throwing a sims themed costume party where the guests dress up as iconic sims like Nervous Subject, Don Lothario, Eliza Pancakes, Bella Goth etc.
Poor Nervous subject... the fact that he had a good relationship with Circe can still make sense and have some dark implications... Nervous Subject with his love of family latches onto the person who interacts with him the most even if it's mainly via experimentation. He just wanted to be loved and to give it... 😭😭😭
I actually added the beaker family in sims 4 at strangeville and I have it set up as they keep him in the basement but he’s secretly learning everything they know and waiting for the rocket to finish so he can escape to planet Sixam with his cat

I remembered in the Sims 2 PSP Version that Annie Howell was his girlfriend. Nervous here in the game willingly signed up to be the Beakers' test subject for cash but forgot to inform Annie and eventually died and haunts our main character sims' new house. Annie unfortunately thought he left her because she thought he went out of town and cheated on her. Our mc sim will have to sadly bring the bad news to her by finding Nervous' love locket to her from his unmarked grave, and yes she got very desvasted when hearing it. Ghost Nervous would then leave your home at last since his unfinished business is finally done. Makes me wanna create Annie and her brother Hoot Howell in the Sims 2 to finally rescue Nervous and give him a good life in that game.
Pascal and Nervous are a "curious" case indeed, because they aren't best friends but the relationship bars are high enough for romantic actions and if they do them they instantly get a crush on each other, hidden feelings, perhaps?

They don't even have memories in TS4, lore is out of the window. Hearing Nervous Subject's story made me want to cry throughout the entire video. PS: Look at all the work that went into TS2! Over a decade out, almost two if not over that yet, and still more to analyze about it. That was a company that cared.
With all that teasing, definitely need a Spectre family entire history of. So happy this series is making a grand comeback though, definitely what got me hooked on Jesse's channel x

I remember that when I really understood the story behind the Beakers (That took me so long because I was afraid of the household) I made Circe and Loki to have a baby and build with it a close relationship with the child, to then make Nervous stole it and escape with it to raise it. I dont remember if I moved them to another town or stayed in Strangerville but my younger self thought it was the best way to give Nervous a family and vengeance at the same time. Maybe I could had married him to another Sim and have his own family but stealing a toddler was better idk
He was my first in-game love for some reason I had a huge thing for him (and tank grunt) I think Nervous had a bit of a breakdown when our son drowned and he finally met his dad- he was conflicted.
Me and my cousin had nervous subject,got him married and let him have kids and grandkids!But Then his great grandson dated fricking ophelia's granddaughter and it was a whole thing
Great to see another one from this series, but you left out a really big detail about Nervous! He's one of the only Sims to start out with a negative romantic preference for women in the Sims 2. That, combined with his friendship with Pascal, has led many fans to ship them together. I wish you had mentioned this detail about him!
First time I played through with Nervous, I had him have an affair with Circe, use the medicine machine to make an elixir for Loki to drink and let him die of sickness. After that, I had him marry Circe and had her die the same way, leaving Nervous with a tidy sum. Married him off, and gave him a lovely life. Second time around, I had found out about his connection to the Spectre family, so I moved him in with his bio family.... and had Loki and Circe die in a fire. My goal is to always give Nervous a happy life and a horrid death for his "parents".
It's been confirmed that the sims 4 is an alternate time line and that's why Bella is still there, why Katrina Caliente Exists, How Malcolm Landgraab, Bella Goth, and Mortimer goth Arent all the same age, And such it could also be assumed that Eliza Pancakes and Bob Pancakes are also Betty and Bob Newbie, as Betty and Eliza are shortened forms of Elizabeth, but in the alternate reality instead of having their daughter Brandi, they had a son Iggy. As the Cannon sims timeline (not including midevil but it would be first) is Sims 3--> Sims 1--> Sims 2 We know this if we just follow one sim let's say Bella in the Sims 3 is her earliest life stage being a child, then in the sims 1 she got married to her childhood bestfriend Mortimer and had their first kid Cassandra, then Presumably 20ish years later they had their Son Alexander (inbetween The Sims 1 and the Sims 2) then around the time of the game Alexander is 10, and Cassandra is younger than 30, which makes bella and mortimer 50+ so yeah, also In The Sims 2 Mortimer is shown as being an elder but Bella is a adult which could mean she is like 40ish, and hes in his early 50s, Which means If Cassandra is 20 then Bella was 20 when she had her and Mortimer was around 30-35 So Child Bella--(20 Years)--> Gets Married to Mortimer and Has Cassandra Sometime in here--(20 Years)--> Alexander is born --(10 Years)--> Alex is now a child and Bella disappears it's just a theory but if the sims 3 is the begging and the sims 2 is the end and it's a 50 year time gap the math is right as 20+20=40+10=50
As far as the “alternate timeline” thing is concerned, it would feel like less of a cop-out on EA’s part if they’d actually followed through on creating inter-household relationships, fleshed-out family trees, etc.
It would have made so much more sense if he had an actual name in sims 3. It makes no sense for olive to have named her son nervous subject and also allowing people like plumbella to put the pieces together without holding their hands would have been so much better.
I remember scooting Nervous out of the Beaker household and giving him a cute girlfriend and having a bunch of babies, in my world he lived a lovely life.
I agree I've always made him "escape" from the Beaker house and have him marry Pascal or another townie and he adopts or has kids and I've noticed he autonomisly is such a good husband, father and person I think it's because he tries to give them a great life since he didn't have one💔😭
I also feel like the sims 4 is on an alternate timeline because in sims 3 you can go into the future and alter it so I think it’s reflective of that. Or at least that’s what I want to think!
Also in Greek Mythology, Circe was an icon who turned men into animals so that's almost certainly a reference to Sims 2 Circe turning people into things
When I discovered the history of Nervous as a kid I was shocked! The lore was more hidden and I had to dig it up and I felt so proud, like a little detective

Coat hangers?.. Circe would be one messed up townie if Nervous Subject was a girl. I mean I am sure she beats him with the coat hangers but the Sims team could really amp up the Fuckery level if they made Nervous Subject a girl
One time I had Nervous move out of the Beaker household and immediately after he left Circe accidentally created a fire while cooking on the BBQ that spread out of control and killed both her and Loki. Talk about karma.

when I played sims 3 and chose the profession of a babysitter, I was brought a nervous subject. His mother was always late at work, and I took care of him and took care of his upbringing, so he grew up a good child 🥺
Its kind of crazy to watch this video after watching the newer video about Olive Specter because its crazy to see you grown over the year the videos were made. It's like when you see a child you baby sat grow up like it makes you feel crazy lol
