2 minutes in, and the amount of times hes pronounced Pauper as Powper have left me in indescribable rage

The reason both Erica and Annalise have the same VA (outside of probably being less expensive) might be because this movie is one of the ones where barbie is an actress making a movie, she's playing both parts (Annalise and Erica), so it makes sense that they sound the same

the fact that the king is eighteen reminds me of that thing in descendants two where ben becomes king at like 16 i also would have been more excited for this movie if it was called 'princess and the poor person' because alliteration is fun

The book it's based on (the prince and the pauper) is also a riot My guy mark twain changes from his regular English to early modern english for all the dialogue bc its about king henry's son and a poor kid who look exactly the same. Barbie creators apparently loved it so much they based two movies on it lmao

This movie was honestly kind of iconic in its own special way, so much so that they had to recreate it so many times (cough cough that princess and the Popstar movie) but yeah it remains a strangely interesting movie 😂

I personally don't see Wolfie barking as a racist representation. Maybe it's just me but I always saw it more as being different from one's group like men liking "girly" things or girls liking "manly" things or even being a representation of LGBTQ+. I kind of got that vibe from Erika's song to Wolfie about never changing.

Oh yes, remember this one. I looked into the cast and found out Julians voice actor voiced L in the English dub of Death Note. Not that this fact will enrich anyone's lives I just thought that it was interesting.

The kingdom of "Dulcinea" is actually the name of the kingdom that Dominick is the King of. During "How can I refuse" one of Premingers goons (Nick and Nack) Says "The Queen decided to marry her off to the King of Dulcinea.. Next week." The kingdom the girls live in is never mentioned.

Honestly “She ends up being caught by this guard who definitely isn’t King Dominic in disguise. Why would King Dominic be in disguise? He never wears disguises.” Had me laughing so hard the delivery was amazing.

This movie was my fucking jam as a kid and now it's my ultimate genderfluid dream bc I want to be both pretty like a barbie character and also a fucking gremlin like preminger. Also Julian fortnite dancing during the blooper reel legit made me cackle like an idiot when I rewatched this after a few years lol

Literally all the Barbie movies have anime voice actors in some capacity, with at least 3 being from Inuyasha. The VA for Miroku is the prince in Nutcracker, the VA for Sesshomaru is the big dragon in Rapunzel, and the VA for Barbie in every 90s Barbie movie is Sango which means yes there is a movie where she and Miroku’s VA get to be a couple again. The movies also boast legendary voice actors like Cree Summers and Tim Curry.

my favorite thing about the old animated Barbie movies is that they make you wonder “what the fuck is going on” every 10 minutes

why are all my faves making videos about this gift from god themselves, "Princess & the Pauper"??!!!? This movie was literally so good based on the villain alone. Preminger was, in a sense, the embodiment of a limp wrist. Oh, and I thought the dresses were pretty and the music was fun to sing along to. My sister and I "assigned" characters to one another, I was "the blue one" and my sister was "the pink one". I love your videos and humor when you review these types of movies (bad animation but great memories), your, for the lack of a better word, snarky-ness is just refreshing.

i fully believe the "you be a princess" song is trans actually. it's very common for trans guys to teach their trans girl friends how to present and act feminine (and although the things Julian teaches her are outdated, it IS what transfems learn to do; they need to know the girl etiquette to pass). Erica is even wearing a blue-pink-white dress, and at some point Julian pushes her into a closet and she "comes out" in a more feminine, fancier dress. i don't even have to look for the transgender subtext, it slapped me right in the face edit: i will also add that even their names feel trans for me. Julia (/Julie/Juliet) is a more common feminine name than Julian for men, and Eric is more common masculine name than Erica for women. Julia and Eric are Julian's and Erica's deadnames, and they just choose the "opposite version" of their deadnames as their chosen names, which is also a common trans stereotype
