This game accidentally predicting that Axel is a Keyblade Wielder is either a sign of how cheaply made this title is or Nomura engaging in some galaxy brain shenanigans.
Y’know, the Organization XIII dropping from 13 to 8 would certainly make sense if this takes place after Chain of Memories. Clearly the developers were paying attention, good for them. Nomura would be proud.
The moment I saw this video and the thumbnail I immediately knew "this must have been some long-defunct Flash game" because I'm a huge KH fan and have NEVER heard of this. I knew about *_VCAST_* but not this. Also love the plot twist that it was actually a reskin of a Wizards of Waverly Place game the whole time, lmao I gotta say though, despite them lumping Axel in with the Keyblade wielders and calling it Organization 8, the character-specific abilities are shockingly apt? Roxas clears gems of the same color, [insert something about Nobodies here], Xion assimilates gems into another color much like how she herself was made to assimilate into a Sora clone, and Axel clears random gems kinda like how the way he fights usually comes down to sheer aggression. Maybe a bit of a stretch, but if someone told me "make a Kingdom Hearts Match-3 game and also have unique character abilities" I'd say "that sounds like a stupid idea but I guess I'm getting paid so okay", and also probably end up doing something very similar.
That's an interesting point with the character abilities, I never thought of that. I figure *someone* on the dev team must have been familiar with KH, mostly since new tokens are unlocked at levels 7 and 13, but it makes me wonder how much was intentional and how much was just a happy coincidence
The crunchy and compressed version of Tension Rising actually goes unlawfully hard. Like it just oozes that era of gaming, mixing that with the fact that Tension Rising is one of my favorite tracks in the series, it just takes me back to a simpler time. Score 1, Magical Puzzle Clash.
Honestly, the fact that this game has such a generic subtitle and not something more in-line with the series (like, I dunno, "Tokens of Remembrance") bothers me lot more than it probably should. That said, it is cool seeing an official KH game with that nostalgic Flash charm.
I actually played this game as a kid, it's nice to see that it's been archived somewhere. I've never heard of Kingdom Hearts Painter though, that's wild
Oh my god, I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who struggled against Morning Star. As a kid, my runs ended because of that bastard. I didn't even finish the game because of it. Now that I'm older, I was able to finish the game 3 times over (1 for each character). I feel a little dumbfounded by the existence of this game, even back then. For one, it's the fact that it's official and on a Disney website, next to the other Disney online games. I thought that Disney didn't care for KH. And I wondered what Disney fan knew KH if they weren't also weebs and/or video game fans. It's funny that this was meant to promote Days, a pretty depressing story. Imagine if they did that with Birth By Sleep! I dunno. Felt weird to me to see KH next to Disney Channel stuff. But at least it was fun and I am glad that there was some thought put into it.
Tbh, is it bad i find the magic system actually interesting? Like yeah, its clearly nothing complicated but for a flash game of its time, it makes it seem like an actual puzzle battle over just another puzzle game- I feel like if a gacha game tried doing this instead of the puzzle and dragons formula, it would be fun since it wouldnt be stuck with only damage 2 damage against 1000hp-
For sure, it's definitely not as bad as it could have been. With a few more unique spells and a more thoughtful way of assigning them to each character, it'd be a pretty solid mechanic. I think if the game had a PvP mode, I would love the magic system - giving various vision-related debuffs to a computer just doesn't feel impactful, but there would be a lot more strategy when up against another player
I remember a few years ago finding out about this game on the KH Wiki, immediately told myself "I HAVE to play this!", found it on a random flash game website and I enjoyed myself. Then Flash died, and I couldn't find it again, even on Flashpoint at the time. :c Good thing it seems to have been archived, though! I know that you don't enjoy it, but I'm happy that someone out there decided to talk about this obscure thingamajig! :3
As a broke child, I was unable to play 358/Days when it first released since I had no NDS. Thus, I had to rely on this game to get my fix. Like a year ago, I downloaded an attachment so that I could still play this on my computer today 😭
I would love it if Wizards of Waverly Place got a world in Kingdom Hearts 4. If they start doing Disney Channel worlds it'll be cheesy but I'll be so happy.
Looking forward to the Gummiship Studio video if you get around to it. I've tried hunting down any info on it and it's very hard to pin down, let alone getting a playable game.
It's just a cheeky way of saying that the game accidentally labeled "Olympus Coliseum" as "Olympus". The real Olympus world isn't seen until KH3, which came out 10 years after this game
You can't, sadly - I'll make a video explaining it eventually, but the short version is that it was tied to Facebook (so can't be emulated like other Flash games)
