I never understood Jack the Ripper's random-ass appearance either, but the movie itself is a banger 💪🏾

if i remember correctly either the book was based off a concept album or the concept album was based on the book - all i remember is out of the three the movie is the one that was made last (it uses the songs from the album) - so i guess they just tried fitting that one song that doesn't really have anything to do with the movie's plot into the movie as best as they could

What i find interesting is that the character designs of the movie kinda reminds me of the singer Kerli's first album cover and Jack off Jill's "clear hearts, grey flowers" album cover🤔 They both look like big-headed porcelain dolls.

Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart always had sexual undertones this is literally one of the songs in the bands Dionysos songs litterally has the name of a female part as its title it says “[Redacted] Mon Amour” When Jack first meets Acadcia swirls appear on her chest. The movie had a lot of sexual undertones The sexual undertones were there and even more so in the album I think than in the movie, most likely to tone it down for a younger audience even tho I would t recommend this movie to children. This movie was my favorite growing up and still is, it’s so unique and I loved it. No wonder one of my favorite games is Lies of P, and I prefer foreign films over movies made in the US

I laughed so hard that I choked on my water at the ripping clothes off with the teeth, but yea, it is disturbing that it would be in a kids' movie. I would say this is more for like teenagers based on those sexual undertones.

Feelin like the bullying scene is for sure symbolic of the way your heart goes insano style dropping beats thanks to fear adrenaline. The reason the music in the movie IS as good as you say is because the author of the original book is the lead singer in a band named Dionysus and they helped make the soundtrack (their music is SUPER good) furthermore, jack and miss acacia are based off of the author and his wife Olivia Ruiz and they both voice each other in the original language of the movie, olivia ruiz is also whos singing in the song Malagueña

Jack the Ripper appeared in the beginning when Jack was going in the Ally, also I believe it’s supposed to symbolize how Jack feels guilty about what he did to Joe and that he thought he killed him and I’m guessing he felt like Jack the Ripper, making the scene all in Jack imagination (also the names being the same yk)

We didn't have internet back then so how did I find this movie? Well I bought a new Blu-ray Disc in the store and I found it. I'm from the Philippines and in my opinion, I think this move was the last one in stock and yes, it was rare, no joke though. In 2020, I was humming the song "Flamme a lunettes" and that was 5 years AGO but the song wouldn't let me forget about it! Here right now, this will never gets old..and I'm still obsessed over Joe because AGGGHH!!! Who has a crush on Joe? Raise your hand!!! 10:09 Oh I KNOW he's F^^K^NG SEXY!!!! Also can somebody bring Niffty here because she's into bad boys? I'm just joking.. Niffty is 20 LMAO. 22:20 "But not only Madeleine, his mother who raised him. Well need to explain something here : 1- his adoptive mother is considered to be a witch, so she's hiding and always afraid of cops and population. 2- Joe sings like this because in the original version this is Grand corps malade who sings (a french poet who do slam) 3- most pixar's animation were done in france so we have good animators 😊 4- it's not weird in France and for an older dude to give love advice and that being go to see her directly and surprise her for romance, but i get it's a creepy character in english This movie was really sad but i always kept a good souvenir of it

so jack the ripper being in the movie also confused me alot. it's also in the book so I think it throws alot of people off. he tells jack he needs survive by frightening others. which is a theme in the next part of the story. I personally think Jack the Ripper is how Jack (mc) is starting to see himself. it is based in the same year jack the ripper was killing, so it wouldn't be far off to assume jack knows about this guy. and now that he's running away bc he believes he killed Joe, he's now consumed by the idea he will be a monster. that's planting the idea he has to scare of others in order to survive

I remember trying to watch it YEARS ago but saw the French version and couldn’t find the English version at the time. It was probably because it was before it was translated into English. But I remember thinking that I couldn’t get over the fact that the guy that voiced him as a kid sounded young but the guy that did the his singing voice for him as a kid sounded like a middle aged guy. Not only did I hate having to pause it so much to read the subtitles because they talked so fast but the singing was off key and they chose the wrong singing voices for the characters. It made me feel weird about it. Plus, I kept thinking the midwife’s head was way too big and weird looking. I just couldn’t finish watching the movie. Made me feel way too weirded out by what was going on. A lot of it just didn’t make sense to me. I probably only watched the first 10 minutes of it. Give it take a few minutes.

'La mécanique du coeur' is like my favorite novel and when you tried to pronounce it i had an aneurism rapture. But very cool to see someone talk about this masterpiece ! fun fact : the original author (Mathias Malzieu) is also the principal director of the movie and the lead singer of the band (Dionysos) that made the music for the movie. So that's why everything just blends in so good. The ending is also very different from the book. it's kinda long to explain but here i go. SPOILER WARNING FOR THE ACTUAL NOVEL. So in that version Jack doesn't actually die and just gets in a long coma, pursues his dream to be with Acacia who is now married with joe, actually achieves it, but fumbles by not revealing his actual identity. Acacia gets really mad, dumps him and just lets Jack reflect on his actions and their consequences and they just go on and live their life.

Also, you should read the book, that shit gets even crazier and the jack the ripper thing might make slightly more sense

Aww I've been waiting for this for so long! Thank you! I feel like this was somewhat a passion project, that's why it comes out a little weird sometimes, it is full of symbolism that you have to interpret yourself, like in poetry (like when Acacia literally covers herself with thorns when she feels uncomfortable), but it made me listen to the soundtrack over and over for weeks

its crazy how i watched this movie as a kid and remember loving it!! and i would rewatch it all the time during elementary and middle school, it was one of my favs growing up, even tho i didnt understand as a kid, i was so captivated by the visuals and the songs and I was a sucker for romance, i def cried at the end each and every time.

Hi! The scene in the ghost train is a wink to the writer of the book, director of the movie and finally voice actor of Jack, Mathias Malzieu who has a band called Dionysos. It the french version of the greek god's name and "os" is "bone" in french so the skeletons are a play on words. Also it was one of my favourites growing up (I didn't watch the dvd that many times but I know the somgs by heart). I am surprised that the songs are well translated and sung in the english version. Even if it cannot compare to the original french ;)
