I remember seeing them in November 2002 in LA. Their opening act was Regina Specktor and someone yelled "You suck" during her set. She replied with "Fuck you!"
"tables they turn sometimes" I have been singing that line alllll day in my head. this really is a catchy song. it's so surprisingly good to me. so concise. so cool. it is just exquisitely simple.
ALL NEED THIS: In many ways, they'll miss the good old days Someday, someday Yeah, it hurts to say, but I want you to stay Sometimes, sometimes When we was young, oh man, did we have fun Always, always Promises, they break before they're made Sometimes, sometimes Oh, Maya says I'm lacking in depth I will do my best You say you wanna stay by my side Darlin', your head's not right See, alone we stand, together we fall apart Yeah, I think I'll be alright I'm working so I won't have to try so hard Tables, they turn sometimes Oh, someday... No, I ain't wastin' no more time And now my fears They come to me in threes So, I Sometimes Say, "Fate my friend, You say the strangest things I find, sometimes" Oh, Maya says I'm lacking in depth Say I will try my best You say you wanna stay by my side Darlin', your head's not right See, alone we stand, together we fall apart Yeah, I think I'll be alright I'm working so I won't have to try so hard Tables, they turn sometimes Oh, someday... I ain't wasting no more time
I guess I'll end up accepting the fact I'm not The Strokes' frontman, I'm not as handsome and charismatic as Julian, I did'nt tour the world with Fab, Nick, Nikolai and Albert, and I didn't write Someday, nor Reptilia or You Only Live Once. But I'm never gonna get over the fact I don't have Julian's voice. I'm in love with it.
Who owns the rights to the footage of this performance? MTV? They need to release a cut of the original broadcast and an extended one with all the takes and between take banter.
I'd say that have elements from just about every decade since the 60's. Thats what makes them so unique and great. There is no other band remotely like them.
He sounds a bit like Jim Morrison on this. It's rather good anyway. I love it when the strokes sound like they're getting ready for many nights on the piss x
Oh it was definitely on purpose. I think it was shot on older 70s-era cameras to make the footage look more vintage but it could still be cleaned up a bit for a DVD while retaining that feel. Fingers crossed.
well there are more high quality videos out there. the whole concert was filmed for an MTV special and they used 70s-era recording techniques and film to make it look "vintage"... but you're right, it fits.
@IndieRockOwns Dont worry man. i know how that feels.. actually 105 people know but if at least 5 4 3 or two of those people ever meet and want to share that amazing passion for the urge of great music.. we well do all that man.. ....Someday.
ize of the world was one the best songs on that album Is This It was fuckin genius Room on Fire was good and Impressions was a good one as well love the strokes forever
In all Honestly. they sound soo much better during there early peroid. sure julian used distortion on his voice and his voice was much younger but man did they sound good.
i know. the thing about the strokes was their simplicity. in a way, they're worse because they're better. most of first impressions of earth was over-done. they lost the simplicity and soul of they're music. i mean, yeah they have some good songs on first impressions of earth, but room on fire and is this it were what most of us strokes fans fell in love with. thats what they need on this new album. they need to record like they used to.
