I remember, when I was a kid, suddenly realising the fact that, "wait a minute... if I have, like, ten of these guys, I can make them repair each other for free! No, wait... wait, what if... what if instead I make an entire army of them? It's like having an infinite amount of units, but I only have to pay for them once! Omg, is this even legal? The Devs are so dumb and I am so smart!". Of course, in retrospect, you can't win every engagement with just automatons, and they sort of suck even when compared to regular mortal soldiers, but DAMN did I try. God knows I really, really, tried to make it work.
@@lordtomlluckrahthegreat9014 Yeah they're definitely good support defending units but not good for a whole army, especially when you're attacking because you won't get a chance to rebuild them. Basically cheap units to help defend your base in the early stages of a game
Dryad being weak doesn't surprise me too much. From what I remember, the Dryad has a pretty cheap cost and takes no population, which helps make a better case for it. It's limited to 5 total, I think, so you won't be using them as the base for your army, but if you put a Hesperides Tree in your own base you can use them kind of like a pop-free defense force, like Egyptian Mercs.
You should do a range myth unit comparison. They can't fight melee myth units straight up so they end up with low scores in these comparisons, yet are quite strong in certain army compositions, so a comparison of those by age would be very useful. Like satyr vs. bird vs. croc vs. manticore.
This dude's content is pretty good, he's the closest to doing what spiritofthelaw does for AoE but less autistic detail... but his mispronounciations absolutely kill me lol. The Chinese video was a nightmare as a Chinese speaker. I mean, hey, these niche folkloric words in foreign and often even dead languages aren't common knowledge or anything so I can hardly blame him, and to be fair he does admit he can't pronounce half this shit properly, but still. I noticed during your tests with the palace that one of the palaces was attacking a group of MUs other than one damaging it. The Heka Gigantes also knocked back some of the attacking units in the neighboring enclosures. Maybe you should do each test on isolated islands rather than separate them with wooden walls.
What are these pronunciations? "Die-rad": Dry-add. "Sah-tear": Say-tear. (I do think Sah-tear is technically correct, it's just Say-tear is much more common. I don't mean to insult you or another, it just stood out to me.
In a complete new game like Age of Empires 4 these units could look SO freakin cool. Let us hope after the success of AoE they will focus on AoM finally after almost 20 freakin years...

Maybe automaton is better against heroes in that test because the hero was ranged and the automaton has higher ranged resistance, just like the Behemoth
heres the thing about dryad though, it costs 0 favor, only 150 gold, and because of that, you can only control 5 at a time. if you could spawn infinite dryads, who cost 0 favor and as myth units are better vs human units, it would become far to strong in a fight due to being able to just summon infinite amounts of them
Hey Protox! Just found this while I was looking up the new map, Old Atlantis, to figure out why I played a full match on it without finding any "temples to restore." Any chance you could do a "review" on that map? I played with my cousin and we did a classic Odin & Odin vs Loki & Loki. He's not that great and suddenly he used Shifting Sands, so I started cheating too and the match became a clusterfuck. Now excuse me as I go binge the rest of your myth unit comparison vids
very good videoi just need to say that in real games the use on mythunit is different to get the best benefit, for example the limpad player will target the argus first rather than a normal unit and that turn all the fight , the same thing for the egyptian video wich the mommy player will always win vs all other unit and its the best unit in game, hard counter to all others
I don't know if this is correct but I believe Lampades is actually pronounced LAM-pades as it is a portmanteau of Lamp and Shades (even though Lampades are not ghosts like Shades; they're nymphs/witches).
I feel bad for you because people are tearing into about your pronunciation of dryard and how automotons are supposed to be used in a group. We have a titan god who is specialized in this particular myth unit she provides by increasing hack resistance and repair speed and when they fall
Ok some thoughts, these tests seem to not take cost efficency into account, also you didn't seem to even go over the Automatons ability to repair itself. Also this test specifically is myth units vs myth units, without maybe considering their effectiveness in normal situations like myth units vs troops. Like for example the Satyr, Dryad and bird would all beat out the Behemoth since it takes too long to kill regular troops. You often build myth units for their power over regular units so determining their efficiency this way is far more useful than comparing them directly.
Weird video, you used height elevation bonuses and also rated some units without price considerations. And that man of war seemed pretty good at absorbing damage despite inefficient damage.
Sounds like someone has been watching too much Spirit of the Law AoE 2 videos lol Sadly not everyone is as careful or thorough about their comparisons and testing
@@fawvertyler thank you for the info :). It is just that the „hill bonus“ is such a fundamental mechanic in AoE2 that I was really surprised the same is not the case for Age of Mythology (is newer than the original AoE2).
@@raghavmenon6413 okay thanks! But if that is the case then why does this comparison not take such a bonus into account. In some battles shown here that could have made a big difference.
I do also like to consider which resources each are costing. I much prefer food cost myth units as food is pretty much the only unlimited resource in the game, gold being a pretty close second as it's much easier to obtain then wood (your villagers won't stray far from a gold mine and get lost).
As a matter of fact, gold is the most scarce resource in the late game. Because almost all of the upgrades and units have a gold component. Also, you can purchase food and wood at the market at a better rate than gold.
@@PiyushShandilya Was about to say this, When playing as Egypt you need to be using the market and camels so much or you will just starve out the game of gold. I started playing Atlanteans, mainly Kronos, and have been finding I end up with the same sort of level of all resources, but once late game hits, (I normally try and make late game about 30 minutes at most with Atlanean's) I find my gold depleats so much quicker due to Hekka costing 300 gold a pop, all troop upgrades, siege machines, everything to finish the game costs gold, and I look around and there's no gold mines left on my side of the map. Wood and Food I have never ran out of (yet)

Atlanteans worship Titans. So their culture have a better focus on mythic beasts. I just hope that the game developer change the favor mechanic for them so they earn favor the fastest in order to mass titan's childrens.
Look at Promethean Vs automaton ... Yup Promethean is better... No like auto repair mechanic of automaton no more standard fight like 3 Vs 3 or something. Cause you know units got special niche, automatons are weaker BUT autorepair after combat(and return dead units) are more useful than it looks
to be honest compared to greek, egypt and norse myth units the atlanteans just suck the strong point of the atlanteans is choosing helios in the heroic age and make heroes regenerate health and use hero units only
What a dumb test. You just let them fight each other, counters and in a small engagement. Isnt the point of the ranking to speak about each units pros and cons? It is like letting a bodybuilder fight against a philosopher and say "Yeah the bodybuilder is better in almost every aspect so now we move on to teacher vs army soldier."
