The Stuarts, Dynasty or Clan, Mount Stuart, Isle of Bute
In this video we explore the opulent Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute. There, we ask a few questions, for instance, how does a family amass such power and wealth? Are the Stuarts a clan or a dynasty?

What a place it is! Must be the most wealthiest building in the whole of Scotland? They sold Dumfries House in Ayrshire for 7 million as well. King Charles, as Prince of Wales had a "BIG" say in the matter and it's later planning! So they still keep well in with those who find money easily! However, some parts are truly awe inspiring, and never likely to be seen anywhere else. The Crypt full of giant butterflies is slightly odd, but an old highland saying was that butterflies were the spirits of those departed, so who knows, they may have them there to remind them who has died, even though there are no graves or coffins there at present! I think that this is one of the most impressive and informative place, which you have put on video. I also think that you are both surpassing, very many people who do this for a living, and appear on TV. I am sure that you could do programmes, and end up doing them better than the ones we see at present. Keep up the good work!!!!! ............Tich.

Hi praise indeed. Thank you! Martin found the place offensive tbf. Just as well Wrecks and himself had 300 acres to frolic in 🤣🤣

I'd love to visit, for the gardens as much as anything. There is certainly a similarity between this and Cardiff Castle.

Fantastic insight into the history of Mount Stuart. I feel privileged to have had my wedding there and have been able to see some of the less seen areas such as the swimming pool, burgess chapel and the hidden staircases. The attention to detail through the whole house is beyond belief and can't recommend a visit highly enough.

What a place.I was surprised to hear of the welsh connections . My Dad was from Glamorgan (Treharris)Wales. This one is definitely a re-watch -so much detail. Thank you. I do like when you put your personal opinions/observations in the videos.

Well done . Beautiful place . I must add though and you so perfectly put it that it also seems a bit vulgar . Beautiful but a bit much. Too much. I did enjoy seeing the bedrooms . The horoscope ceiling ,I like the idea . The craftsmanship especially the bedposts , wonderful . Quite a place Julie . Thanks for once again being an educated and gracious tour guide .

The craftsmanship is breathtaking. The show of wealth, not so much. I find these places more frustrating than awe inspiring most times. There is no denying the skills of the many people drafted in to produce detail like this, however. The chapel was quite a special place!

The craftsmanship was quite amazing, though you expect it with the amount of wealth. It was a bit ott for my taste, far to busy, why add detail to every single surface imaginable.... Thanks for watching!

Hello, my name is Zaynab El-Fatah from Australia and I really enjoy watching your videos on exploring Scotland's history. After writing a book earlier this year called "Isobel of Glemoriston", my daughter and I decided to visit Scotland and we're heading over soon on the 3rd Sept. We will be visiting the Isle of Bute while we're staying for a couple of days in Oban around the 13th Sept. Are you available as a tour guide for us on the Isle of Bute? Thanks. Regards, Zaynab.

Thanks for watching! Unfortunately my schedule is booked for September. A Google search will throw up the local guides who operate on the island. There is also a sight seeing bus tour leaves from the centre of Rothesay. All the Rothesay sites are within walking distance of each other anyway! Enjoy your trip!
