Tyler, thanks for sitting down and being honest about your journey! Helps those of us who are trying to enter the production market a reason to keep their chin up!
dude this is amazing content and thank you for making it! as a corporate videographer, I don't have much of a network so I'm literally just learning as I go. this is so helpful
The shots are lovely for something that wasn't really planned! Bravo! If I could say something, I still find the key light a tiny bit too bright on the mid shot, especially on the table. Maybe a flag or a scrim would have been able to tone down the table. Anyways, thanks for this episode guys, very valuable for an aspiring cinematographer :)
two 2 of my favorites RU-vidrs just hangin' out and chattin about light. YES PLEASE. also, if any of you guys are ever in the NYC area, i'll pay you guys to let me hold your coffee. thanks
Hey Kevin, new to your channel but this was an insta-sub. Love this interview, and I'm looking forward to digging into more of your videos. I love the lighting on this as well, if you don't mind sharing, what was the lighting setup? Have a great day man!
Again this video proves what a truly nice generous guy you are and for anyone looking for a professional tip I would probably say that that trumps any lighting idea or camera package assuming you have the prerequisite talent. You have created a great inviting vibe and having your friends share their work is a great way to show that relationships last far longer that cameras. The fact that I wasn’t a fan of what Tyler did is actually an even more important lesson in many ways. Having a very strict style and aesthetic can be a great advantage as a director or DP but when working in a production team professionally it’s usually the taste of the director or client that has to be respected and art departments can often insist on a prop or product placed in frame that you simply have to make the most of. For me having the lamp or some design element that was aesthetically directional might have given you and the shot an added personality and I thought that it could have helped. Much like your Birkenstock’s. I’m afraid I thought the plant felt the wrong call yet that’s ok. It’s ok to think differently and it was great to see Tyler’s thinking. After all that is what often happens so many times on set. Someone just has a different aesthetic and taste and learning to bend and understand that the end results are often that of the team not the strongest voice in the room is a great lesson to learn, especially for DPs who’s insistence on a particular aesthetic can sometimes strangle a set and the vibe. The fact that you were so supportive of Tyler and what he did, though you joked, was exactly the vibe I think that a DP should have on set. Maybe in future episodes you might want to show a little bit more of the to and fro of trying things that work and showing those that don’t and the why’s surrounding how decisions are made. Eitherway this was a really lovely video, informative and encouraging viewers to try things without dictating a prescribed methodology. Very refreshing. Thanks so much to you both.
Wow thanks so much for this comment. And all your observations are very much appreciated. Thank you for the feedback and so glad you enjoyed watching this. 🙏🏽
