The Derby Works Ep1 - This is the first of my visits to The Derby Works back in 2022. Here Simon takes us on a tour of his classic car restoration facility that specialises in Rolls Royce and Bentley cars from the early twentieth century right up to the computer age. Featured in this episode are a 1910 Silver Ghost, an Alvis Speed 20, a 1925 Phantom 1, 1936 Phantom 3, the last of the handbuilt pre-war Rolls Royce. A 1927 W.O. Bentley 3 litre that Simon helped save from being sold overseas. He recounts the fascinating story of the last of the true Bentley's, the 3 Litre, before Rolls Royce took over and made every Bentley a derivative of one of its own models. This is a step back in time to when Rolls was a byword for British quality. Both pre WW1 & WW2 models featured.
And yes, it's Ettore Bugatti who is widely regarded as the man who claimed the Bentley was "the fastest lorry in the world".
