How does one prepare to face a left-footed kicker? Well, think of any logical idea that would make even the slightest bit of sense, and then, think of the exact opposite. Bart Starr was an absolutely garbage head coach, and perhaps no moment exhibits that more than whatever the heck he was thinking prior to a 1976 game between the Green Bay Packers and the Oakland Raiders

He was hired way TOO early, not enough time as an OC, just has he was starting to understand what to do, they fired him for a much worse Lombard Legacy Player, Forrest Gregg, he should never have been hired as Packers GM.

Yes. In his 4th year as HC, Bart was still struggling and fans were getting impatient. So as Packer president and CEO, Dominic Olejniczik, was making his way up to his private booth to watch a game, a reporter asked him about Bart Starr’s future as HC and what he was going to do about it. The story goes that Mr. Oleiniczik stopped in his tracks, looked the reporter in the eye with a disgusted look on his face and replied, “Look sir, the fans hired Bart Starr so the fans will have to fire Bart Starr. Have a nice day gentlemen” and up to his booth he went.

I remember watching this game on the TV located in the basement of my dorm. I was 20-years-old and in my 3rd year of college. What a disappointment. We gave the Raiders a good game but as the saying goes, the cream came to the top, and the Raiders pulled out a victory and I think they went on to defeat the Vikings in the Super Bowl that season for their first SB victory. The Oakland Raiders had a lot of swagger back then.

Packers vs Raiders is a streaky series. Packers won only meeting in 60’s, Raiders all meetings in 70’s and 80’s. Packers all meetings since 90’s, 2000’s, and 2010’s

Before this past October when the Raiders finally edged the Packers, the Packers had an 8 game winning streak over the Raiders by an average margin of 21 points. The Packers owned the Raiders during that time.

Since left hand-dominant people make up 10 percent of the population, you would only expect about 3 kickers in a given year to be left dominant.

To be fair, a kicker with a soccer background likely has SOME skill with his off-foot (it's kind of needed). But not for full-strength kick offs. I think it was Tony Frisch who lined up in a likely onside situation and kicked left-footed to the opposite side (didn't work, but it was an ok kick), so it HAS been done in game.

Finding a left footed kicker in 1976 wasn't as difficult as you think. This was when the NASL was at its peak. Surely there was someone in that league that could kick with their left foot.

Was not a smart decision, don't know why they thought this was important to practice for. Bart was a HOF QB but wasn't a good coach, he lasted 9 years only because he was beloved in GB for the Lombardi years. Would like to give the benefit of the doubt that it possibly wasn't Bart's decision, maybe a Special Teams coach's was the reason for this?!?

In High School JV I hurt my right shoulder and played the last quarter that way, threw 2 passes left handed too. It’s really not that dumb of an idea. Naive, maybe. Silly, sure.
