Actually there's nothing weird in the fact that she has a crush on someone she grew up with (as friends), it's something pretty common and with puberty of course it makes it even more normal. Also they grew up together but it's not like they spend all their time together because they see each other only during summer so it's not like brother and sister. I really like this show because it actually speaks to a lot of us. It may seem silly but so are most things related to puberty. Like Nick and Cory said, it's not meant for men, maybe boys but not men, especially if they don't understand that THEY ARE NOT STEP BROTHER AND SISTER, the moms are BEST FRIENDS so it's not weird.

I've had a severe crush on a guy I grew up with since we were in diapers. We're 23 and 24 now and we still give each the looks and get nervous everytime we meet. Our grandmothers were both neighbours and bestfriends, so he and his siblings were always there on the weekends when I and my siblings went over to visit, we still do all the time. We played everything from tag to building mud castles to mom and dad. I practically had a heart attack when I randomly bumped into him at college because I had no idea he applied to my school. I guess the crush is gonna go on till I get married and move away lol. My point is, it's normal.
belly is short for isabel, in the books she loves jelly bellys so that's where the name came from. there's the fisher family and the conklin family, laurel and susannah are the moms and they're best friends. laurel recently got divorced and wrote a book about it. susannah has a husband but he's not around. conrad and jeremiah are susannahs kids. belly and steven are laurels kids. they aren't related but they did grow up together considering their moms are best friends. the books so into more detail about it so i def recommend the books.
The books explain all of this better 😂 but belly is just a nickname. They’re family friends and they stay at the fishers beach house every summer, so they don’t see each other during the school year. She has pined after Conrad her entire life. Susannah (the fisher family mom), said once that belly is destined to be with one of her son’s and belly got that in her head. It’s honestly just a funny teen experience. Like my neighbors had twins my age, girl and boy, and our moms always joked we should marry so our families would be related. I think it’s just a thing moms do, trying to play matchmaker. In my case there was never a romance with the neighbor boy. But it’s a common romance trope for coming of age to date the best friends brother, family friends son, etc.

The family with the boys live on Cousins Island or whatever it's called. They did kind of grow up together, but not all year. Her family spends the summer there, so they were summer friends. I think, I've never actually seen the show or read the books 😂
