It's our first video!! Welcome to History Rats!! Today we are going to give you some interesting tidbits of information about the history of Onalaska, on Lake Livingston. This video was shot while visiting my sister in Impala Woods.
Most of you found the History Rats via out Facebook page Dark History with the History Rats, however I will leave a link to our page for those of you who stumbled upon our channel by chance.

My Mother's family were from the Huntsville, Evergreen and Coldsprings area. I always heard that their Old Home place from 1800s was taken in by the lake. My Mom lived in Port Adventure when she passed in 1999. She and a lot of my ancestors are in the Evergreen Cemetery. Sur names Phillips, Hoot , Hogue. I love that part of Texas. My ashes will be there someday.

My paternal grandfather was from the Coldspring area. I believe they had a dairy farm. I've always wanted to go explore the Huntsville area, specifically the old Steamboat House & Martha Chapel Cemetery, but as of yet I have not had the opportunity.

@HistoryRats yessssss....lived in spring since 80....always stop for historic al markers. Been to Danville that doesn't exist anymore. Look up the name Johnathon Lindley...he passed at the Alamo....buried in Danville cemetery. Great history. If u get a chance....read a book named "terror on 59" its all about the crooked sheriff that ran the good old boy mob of East tx.

I remember reading an article in the newspaper about the man who pulled the two vehicles up out of the lake. I can't remember his name, but I would imagine there is still information about it floating around on the web somewhere because there was a big to-do when they told him that he had to put them back after he had put a ton of money restoring one of them. It is common knowledge that all man-made lakes that have been dammed up are protected, and he should have known that, but I guess when you find two vehicles sitting in a submerged gas station you just let yourself pretend that Texas actually has a finders-keepers law...but it doesn't. Fun fact, in Texas possession is not actually 9/10 of the law.

I remember hearing about that, too! Hell, you or Grampa were probably the ones that I overheard talking about it. You taught me so much about both history and English/novels. I've always heard that Texas was a possession state, so that's good information to have.
