There is a REAL HAZARD here, watch to learn what and where that is! This Texas Hill Country dive spot has really interesting features that we enjoyed discovering as well as amazing cliffs, overhangs, and grottos. Check out an old mysterious truck that we found and even a sunken sailboat.

Thanks for this informative video. We live in the area and my kids take the boat out all the time, but the lake is so low now. It's sad too. I'm working in Del Rio, contract job, and talked to a man who works at the Department of the Interior, Federal level. He came to my office with some paper work for me to fill out for the city. We were talking about what they did at Lake Amistad. The federal government removed a million tons of trash and debris out of the lake because it's so low. The project is now complete and the reason for the paper work. I was told they take pride in their lake here in Del Rio and want it safe for everyone to enjoy. What a wonderful thing they did for this lake. I wish other lakes would follow suit, especially Medina Lake as it only has 2.6% of water in it currently. So sad. We need rain God, please! Have you dived Lake Amistad? It's gorgeous!!!!

Wow, nice video. I remember diving at Comal Park in back in 1972 with a group from San Antonio called the Alamo Baracudas. I was certified at 16 years old. Back then we had steel tanks (72cu ft) with a J valve that would cut off at 300psi, then you could pull a rod open the valve and you would have 300 psi to ascend gracefully, a single regulator, no Buoyancy Compensator. I was certified by YMCA. Also made many dives at North Park and at that time there was a 1930's Ford Coupe at about 45'. Been diving ever since. It is the most relaxing thing you can do. Hope all divers will help clean up all the trash as best they can.

Love this video! Not sure if your local or have seen canyon lake recently but I think a video about how low it is with footage would be awesome might bring some awareness to people and developers over pumping and draining the lake. There is a video just posted on RU-vid about what it looks like now. After I watched it, this video came up in my feeds. We need rain desperately and the Core of Engineers and the government need to clean this lake out now that it's so low. The Federal government just did that with local governments, me, lol at Lake Amistad! God bless them too. They removed over a million tons of trash and debris. It was no easy task but because it's so low they did it. Best time to do it. Now we are praying for rain to fill this beautiful clean lake up!!!

I was diving Medina lake near the dam at about 80' (40 years ago ) and we got into some different looking clear dark green water. This is interesting.. I always think of the dangerous parts of dams to be near the "intake towers" or other very visible things that are known for danger. But what you are describing is Medina dam does not have this and there was some type of water intake near the bottom of the dam and on the structure itself... I find dams very interesting but I would never dive near them.... there should be a dam safety class :)

We used to take huge rocks and jump off by the damn and see how far down we could get at Canyon Lake. One time I was going down fully extended with the rock in my hands and something the size of a small cow ran into me. I was huge and slimy and I assume was a catfish but I didnt stick around to find out. I literally walked on water back to my friends and have never swam near the dam again. A small cow you say? YES I was a 200 lb varsity baseball player in very good shape and this thing pushed me under water like I was nothing It was so heavy and solid that to this day 28 years later I believe there is or maybe some animals in that lake over 500 lbs.
