A Van Beuren cartoon that is a cult classic among 1930s animation buffs. This particular print was released some years later by Borden Milk as an advertising piece.
Wow. Just wow. Was looking for this cartoon for over 2 decades. They briefly show a scene in the movie The Ring 2, and I just could NOT find it for the life of me. Finally googled, “old cartoon where villagers are always sad/angry and then get happy” and as soon as I saw the characters, I knew I had found it!
I saw this at a Grateful Dead show in Radio City Music hall when they played there in 1980. They played this in between sets. It was definitely a double entendre. Putting "sunshine" in bottles.......
I watched this on VHS in Ireland as a child and never knew the name but always remembered the sunshine song. There were other cartoons on the VHS too. Mart had a little lamb and a few others, I played it to death!
I've been looking for years for this cartoon. I never thought i would see it again. Thanks so much. I watched this when HBO first came out on cable TV in between movies.
This is the original print of the film (in Cinecolor), as it was initially a subtle "commercial" plug for Borden's milk products. It was independently produced and directed by Ted Eshbaugh: Van Beuren reissued it later that year without the "Borden" identification....
I used to see this at Grateful Dead shows in 1969-70. Someone asked "Why?" I think he was being facetious but in case he wasn't, Sunshine was the name of a popular "brand" of Acid.
I loved this when I was a kid in the 50's. I'm surprised I even remembered the name to google it. Now if I can find the cartoon with the rat that tries ri kill the kittens in a store...
does anyone know the movie that had this video in it I forgot what it's called but it has like a bunch of other stories (like one with a dog that wanted to be a hunting dog and another with boy with a magic horn and another with a guy that wanted to marry a girl but had to do all these crazy tests like pick up and count rice grains on the ground)
