Wow. Just wow. Was looking for this cartoon for over 2 decades. They briefly show a scene in the movie The Ring 2, and I just could NOT find it for the life of me. Finally googled, “old cartoon where villagers are always sad/angry and then get happy” and as soon as I saw the characters, I knew I had found it!
I have to agree, the announcer for the Devotions, Nightoul News and Signoff, is Claude Wood. Never heard of those TV Translators, but I can see where they'd come in handy up that-a-way.
Used to listen to this station over the air (as in on the radio) when I was a kid, right outside Greensboro. We used a rendition of this SSV arrangement, on one of our signons, back when I worked in radio. Also, from the radio days, I noticed the cart flutter at the end of the ID, before the signoff. Thanks for posting.
Children's programming has been a part of that channel even during the CBN/Family Channel years (anybody remember when Leo the Lion aired on CBN? Or the Fun Town/Fam TV block that had Captain N, Super Mario Super Show!, Dinosaucers, Inspector Gadget, Popeye, Wish Kid, Pro Stars!, The Archies, Augie Doggie, StarCom, Super Dave, Alf, Alf TALES, C.O.P.S., The Flintstone Kids, Super Mario 3, Super Mario World, I'm Telling!, Pole Position, Popeye and Son, Archie & Friends Featuring Maxie's World, Mario All Stars, and the like on it), and ABC Family would be fools if they just alienated the younger years of the network.
I remember getting to watch Inspector Gadget at timeslots like 8:00am and 5:30pm which I though was unusual since most/many cartoons are aired in the afternoons. It later moved to another timeslots like 7:30am and 3:00pm, moved to 8:30am and finally at back to 7:30am. And also aired on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00am.
10 years old. Me and my buddy Ivan the Bolivian kid. Warming up with Stooges and Thunderbirds, Then on to that trifecta of what coulda won Nobels for Cartoons. Looney Tunes. Bag of Tricks Cat. But never anything to equal Moose and Squirrel. Upsidaisium! Goof Gas!
Has everyone forgotten The Family Channel (you know, the predessor of Fox Family?) That used to air cartoons as well (not obviously 24/7 but still.) In fact, it's Fun Town/Fam TV block was direct competition to USA Network's USA Cartoon Express. The Family Channel as well as DiC (which made up most of Fun Town/Fam TV's lineup.)
I know The Family Channel (I think this was when it was owned by International Family Properties was still in control) airing reruns of cartoons that used to air on NBC's Saturday morning block (e.g. Wish Kid, Pro Stars, etc.).
These ones were a bit basic for their time, but Van Bueren improved quickly. By the mid 30s they had Molly Moo Cow, Toonerville Trolley, and Parrotville.
Hy,it’s pity Ntsc was in 525 lines only, and the colors management.Picture wasn’t very clear..PAL or Secam 625 lines were the best..The best Secam appearance was made by Canal+ .
This brings back memories. I had just moved to NC in June of 93 from up north. I loved WKFT for the old Taxi reruns. I also remember the Hollerin Contest!
I will never forget this. It’s a cherished childhood memory of staying up with my grandma in Bryans Road Maryland to watch channel 9 sign off. It’ll always be WTOP-9 to me. (Locked out of my 88Rocker account) so here I am 😊
I think the whole of Holst's The Planets Suite amazing, Mars and Jupiter especially. It was integral in the founding of modern orchestral pieces like the soundtrack of Star Wars and its ever-expanding list of sequels and TV shows. The poem's author John Maghee was a soldier in the Canadian Army, who died in a training exercise in December 1941, weeks after Pearl Harbor. A fine poem used many times, especially by Ronald Reagan after the Challenger Disaster.
I always watched Inspector Gadget reruns on The Family Channel when there was any good on Nickelodeon. I definitely also watching that show on Nick later on. I think it was on a block called FamTV, sometime in the early-to-mid 90s (1992-95).
