THIS Part 3: We fly a trip on "Star of America" from Kansas City to participate in a Jefferson City, Missouri airshow in September 1990. Full flight deck and passenger cabin window perspectives, and some short clips from the airshow.
Part 1: We review the Super Constellation's role in aviation history, its technical evolution and my involvement in the earliest years with Save A Connie and its Super Constellation L-1049H N6937C "Star of America" (labeled by them as a "G" model). This includes inside-and-out operational footage, and also featuring its debut Oshkosh performance in 1990.
Part 2: We change an R-3350 cylinder jug in March 1990 and get some more fledgling Save A Connie history from it's very first Chief Flight Engineer, Walter "Willie" Davis. Then experience the resultant maintenance test flight from the flight engineer's perspective. This flight is a hectic eye-opener on the complexities of operating a large 4-engine propliner.
Part 3: See above.
Part 4: We fly back home to Kansas City. We then jump forward two months to November 1990 to savor winter maintenance hangar operations, including preparation for its iconic "long" radar nose modification.

Hi Jim, thanks for your nice comments on this video and our DC-7C series. Yes, you're right, great last names think alike! We will keep the video's going as long as we can. Did BAHF ever take care of the R-4360 problem on the C-97? That is such a unique restoration. I'm dying to film some flybys of that one at Oshkosh! Best regards.

Crew chief EC-121D's McClellan AFB 1966 to 1968 and A-1's NKP 68 to 69 both had R- 3350 engines.

Thanks for watching and for your comment. Even though the R-3350 engine cores you worked on are the same, I'd bet real money that there were notable differences in maintaining the EC-121 vs the A-1 powerplants.

A bit off subject ; is it just me or, doesn’t the P-51D shown taking off have an excessively long ground run ?? Is this typical of Mustangs ??

You're not off topic. I think that in order to extend the engine's time before overhaul (TBO) and/or to reduce chances of catastrophic engine failure many warbird pilots will use a lower power setting on takeoff when possible (depending on density altitude and if there is enough available runway). That would lengthen the takeoff roll.
