The live-action segments, a parody/spoof of contemporary sitcoms, are set in Brooklyn, New York, and deal with the percuilarities of running a plumbing business in the late 1980's. The live action segments just almost look like/reminds of the rooftops from Sesame Street.
I kinda wish they revisited this format. Like imagine if they rebooted this show, but based it around the 2023 film. The live action segments take place during Mario and Luigi's days working for Forman Spike's "Wrecking Crew" company, while the cartoon segments are CGI adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom.
@@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose The only difference this time is that the cartoon segments would actually be based on Mario, and not just needlessly plagerize other media by slapping Mario's face on it. That's something that both "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3" and "Super Mario World" excelled at. As fun as Super Show was, it honestly felt like more effort went towards the live action segments, and most if not all the budget went towards celebrity guest stars, which explains the utter lack of quality control for the cartoon segments.
@@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose Yeah, I'd agree, no offence to the more recent voices but they all feel more like an actor reading lines. I get why, where as these actors got in when the franchise was smaller so they didn't know the characters. People like Kevin Afghani and Chris Pratt know Mario is an icon so they're more scared to improvise with the character where as Danny, Lou and Charles were always adlibbing things to give the Brothers more life. Those three really brought the characters to life the same way the performers for the Muppets do where even though you know better you on some level do feel like the characters are real
And Albano and Wells were BEFORE Martinet, so there really was no set version of them people had to go off of. The closest was Mario from the Donkey Kong show but other than that it was just commercials amd that was it!
@@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose Exactly. TBF Martinet didn't even know who Mario was when he auditioned so he was in much the same situation. It's a shame that's all but impossible to replicate now, once again it's not the fault of the new actors but just an unfortunate side effect of the character's icon status
The live action segments were always such a treat. They were much better than the animated ones. Though that may be because the Mario world wasn’t really fleshed out or established at the time of this show’s airing.
I freaking love the show and enjoy watching it on Netflix and amazon! I think it was actually a fun little satirical show to keep things interesting when Mario was still just a fledgling on gaming platforms! I also enjoy the guest stars whether it be Elvira, Sergeant Slaughter and many others! The only drawback I have for this original show was the fact that Nintendo tried to not recognize the Koopalings as King Koopa's kids( years later) which I call complete BS!😂
The Shabba Doo episode where Mario and Luigi dance is one of the funniest and coolest moments of the live action segments! It was great to see them dress in something other than their overalls too. At least the Koopalings are still around. I'm still waiting for the Mario Party Koopa Kids to come back!
you make good points. I can see the cartoon or A cartoon coming back but the sitcom feels too silly for modern Mario. He could return in live action but it would never be THIS again. Still its not forgotten and I wonder how much of it is canon? Elements of it are still around. and I wish the old shows had continued longer the SNES sort of killed Mario, Zelda and Captain N . The old cartoons were imagination filling gaps the SNES and beyond created lore that the cartoons were not using. But I feel Captain N should have kept upgrading the tech to match the current system. On the plus side, anything Nintendo puts out non-game related will be extremely high quality. On the downside, it won't ever be able to recapture the almost DIY feeling this show had. Albano and Wells deserve much more credit for their interpretations of the characters!
