Iceberg charts have interested me for quite some time but they all usually center around a specific game, such as Super Mario 64 or Minecraft. However there is an iceberg, that centers around the Super Mario series as a whole, and that is what I will be covering today. This is the final part will be covered in this video and the first part was covered in last week's video. Prepare for an even deeper dive.

The SMB2 smile face is actually the face that shows when you make an encounter in Hotlands on the Genocide Run in Undertale. Now, Undertale came out in 2015 and SMB2 came out in like 1986, but it’s cool that Toby Fox reused it like that.

@@mingkanglin9017 normally when you encounter any enemy in Undertale a [ ! ] will show up above Frisk's head, this is replaced by the smiling face in two instances. 1) during a genocide run, after killing Undine and getting to Hotland, every encounter will instead show the smiling face above of Frisk's head, this is to show how happy they are to find more victims. (Probably) 2) in the True Lab, the smiling face shows up as one of the Amalgamations, as Frisk walk by a corridor of mirrors, he suddenly looks at his reflection with the "enemy encounter" noise and [ ! ] pop up, but it's replaced by the Smiling face, which soon after transforms into a more violent form and attacks the player. Hope this helps and if I missed something, some one will hopefully correct me :)

Small addendum I'd like to suggest, the "hidden train" in Toy Time Galaxy likely refers to the tiny train hidden under one of the blocks that you can only see by going into first-person view. It's very easily overlooked and comparable to the hidden book in Mario Sunshine. I think this secret is generally more well-known which is why I say the hidden train more likely refers to it. That said, I had no idea that other train you pointed out existed!

I'm honestly shocked that the PETA Tanuki game is still online. I had heard that after the Nintendo statement that PETA doubled down and made an "update" to the game. Which lead to Nintendo's legal team to step in and for PETA to coward out and say "It was just a prank bro!" Am I misremembering this fact or did this happen to some other PETA game? Because I could swear PETA got into some big Legal trouble that wasn't Nintendo related.

the fact that Nintendo doesn't DMCA PETA for their games (which not only risked damaging Mario's reputation as a family-friendly mascot with all the gore, but heavily criticized the franchise) just goes to show their fangame DMCA habit isn't about "protecting their IPs", when they DMCA... that means they are genuinely scared that fans can do what Nintendon't.

Exactly, this is proved even further with Game Builder Garage. We can make anything on the game but it has to be within Nintendo’s limits and on Nintendo’s software. They don’t care about fan creations, even if it’s on their own console. If it’s on their own console at least it’s not competing with their official games.

I feel like those impossible to reach enemies are ways the developers placed other enemies that would spawn close to the death barriers. If you find the lowest point you can spawn an enemy and then make sure to place any other enemies that would spawn close to it above it then it'd make it easier to place them. They're most likely placeholders that didn't get removed

I wouldn't have thought Super Hornio Bros would be on the bottom tier, I thought it was pretty common knowledge. What I didn't know is that only one of the films is found and the other is lost. Overall an informative video. I learnt quite a bit of obscure Mario knowledge from the two parts of the iceberg. Great job.

29:30 Toby Fox used this sprite for undertale in true lab during the pacifist run when you encounter the amalgamate endogeny. After you turn on the fans in that one room, a bunch of white particles come together to form a white ball and that white ball becomes that smiley face sprite before endogeny fully forms and you fight it.

2:21 That caught me by surprise. I had to re-looked that up, because I could of sworn the Ice Flower was in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Talk about weird. Also, I didn't know Wario was originally planned for NSMBWii, all I ever heard was about Peach and her dress problem. Just like that program mistake with the Double Cherry turned good, I'm surprised you didn't mentioned the same thing for Continous Coin Block from Super Mario Bros being a series staple and the Weird Mushroom for Super Mario Marker 1. This is a great Iceberg. I'm glad you didn't shoehorned the aspiration memes like most videos have done.

I thought the Ice Flower was in SMG2 as well. I’m not the most familiar with the galaxy games so I always thought that it was in the game. As for the Continuous Coin Block and whatnot, I didn’t make the iceberg so it wasn’t on the chart. Glad you liked the video.

This was a really great Iceberg video! There were actually a ton of things I didn't know in both Parts 1 & 2 Really great job! Only thing I wasn't too much of a fan was the song choices being very derived from the SM64 video, but other than that I really liked the presentatin a lot Subbed!

regarding the purple rabbit in super Mario 64 ds it's likely that it was used for Peach. Not a lot of people know about this but super Mario 64 ds has unused running and jumping animations for Peach. It's actually referenced on the cutting room floor.

@@AverageT i also think there's a rom hack out there with a playable Peach but i'm not sure if that reuses the existing animations or if it was made by the creators of the hack. I also haven't seen the animations as they haven't been posted online as far as i can tell, but the cutting room floor is pretty accurate usually.

@@AverageT yep, I remember the Mario Tennis 64 site and Waluigi’s sub-section. One game had Waluigi controlling a robot to paint the lines on a tennis court, and you had to match a pattern Luigi was holding. Another game allowed you to spray graffiti on posters of Mario and Luigi. The last “game” had you clipping Waluigi’s nasty toe nails and then you could email them to someone. I’m not making that up.

It seems like even Nintendo forgot about Luigi's first appearance. I have some old Nintendo Power issues from 2001 and in the Q/A section with questions relating to Luigi's Mansion, Nintendo says that Mario is Missing is Luigi's first appearance as the main character.

As the *MAIN* character. In every other game before MiM that he appeared in, he was the secondary character. At least for consoles.

I wonder if the SMB2/Doki-Doki smiley face is an early version of the SMB3 angry sun, meant to attack you in the desert region. Maybe they scrapped it because it simply didn't make sense for it to appear or attack the protagonists in SMB2/Doki-Doki but with the context of SMB3 being a stage play, the sun could plausibly attack Mario.

I'm honestly getting tired of hearing River Twygz Bed at the bottommost part of the iceberg. Yes it's creepy as hell, especially for Mario game standards. But also, the more it's used, it starts to lose its luster. It's like when you've seen the same jumpscare enough times you become numb and angry from it instead of frightened.

I agree, however this is a Mario Iceberg so it kind of fits here, it would fit less in an iceberg unrelated to Mario.
